Hi everyone!
I found this strange object on a beach in Cotonou, Benin, West Africa, along the Gulf of Guinea.
Here are some details:
Size: Less than 10 cm long.
Texture: Very hard, like bone or a tooth.
Appearance: It has two pointed, horn-like projections on one end and an elongated, textured section on the other.
Color: Off-white to pale yellow.
Location: Found washed up on a beach in Cotonou, on the Atlantic coast of Benin.
I’m not sure whether this is a fish bone, part of another animal’s skeleton, a tooth, or something else entirely.
I’d love to know:
What animal could this have come from?
Which bone or anatomical structure is it, if it is a bone?
Could it belong to a marine fish commonly found in the Gulf of Guinea?
Is it possibly a fossil, or does it look more like a recent bone?
I’ve attached pictures from different angles to help with identification.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
