New Partner sub r/WGU_Accelerators

Team,

One of the most common conflicts that the mods see on this sub is the frustration Accelerators and non-accelerators have with each other. While both kinds of students are moving towards their degrees, they each have very different approaches and goals.

To help with this, I have created a subreddit that is focused on accelerators. This is simply the first step, and that sub currently has very little structure. But while all of that is coming, I see no reason to not allow users to explore the space and kick the virtual tires.

One last note, acceleration is NOT the same as cheating. The new sub will focus on legitimate ways to accelerate and will not tolerate cheaters or those who cater to cheaters. I think most of the rules on this sub will migrate to the new sub with the possible exception of #6, but I have an idea as to how #6 could be made more helpful to new students.

Finally, since we don't have any traffic on the sub yet, I will ask here for help with moderation duties on the new sub. If you think you want to help BUILD something, let me know. If your focus is on rules, removals, and bans, you may want to wait until the sub has been built. I need collaborators, not enforcers.

/wgu_accelerators

-Cheers!

Obligatory "Finished" post

So many months of late nights.

When people see this picture, they see another student who accelerated.

What I see is surgery, 3 hospital admissions, 6 hospital visits, 2 cross-country moves, a layoff, and digging deep to get it done.

So many days I sat at this computer crying, thinking I was too stupid and out of my league. So many days I sat in a hospital bed with a laptop, getting poked in one arm and using my other to scroll through coursework.

There were days I couldn't imagine finishing. Days when I was exhausted, frustrated, in pain, and questioning whether I had made a huge mistake.

I failed exams. I cried about those, too. I questioned whether I belonged in this field, whether I was smart enough to understand the material, and whether I was just fooling myself into thinking I could do this.

But I kept showing up.

Sometimes that meant studying for eight hours. Sometimes it meant getting through a single lesson. Sometimes it meant closing my laptop, crying, and trying again the following morning.

I started this degree on April 1st, 2026.

On October 15th, 2026, I passed my final exam.

Six and a half months.

And I think the thing I'm most proud of isn't how quickly I finished. It's that I finished at all, considering everything that happened between those two dates.

I know acceleration isn't for everyone. I know some people finish faster and others take years. None of that makes anyone's degree worth more or less.

But this one? This one means everything to me.

Because I know what it took.

And for the first time in a long time, when I look at something I've accomplished, I'm not thinking about what I could have done better.

I'm just proud of myself.

Law School

• Upvotes

I would love to go to law school next year or the year after, however I need a bachelor's degree first.I am almost 30 so don't want to spend 4 years doing a bachelors. Any suggestions on which degree can take here? I have a lot of credits from previous colleges and a few from Sophia.

I know that the LSAT is what's important and I plan on studying for it as soon as I get a degree that will get me a step closer.

Thanks for any help.

another proctor thread

• Upvotes

I saw the other thread and I have been lucky so far but it finally happened.

The proctor said he would really appreciate a 5 star review. I said sure np there.

Everything was great. He didn't bother me at all.

Then I get a connection request on linkedin and its that proctor.

He's like making small talk. I told him he could get in a lot of trouble.

He goes 'trouble is nothing. friendship is everything'.

Then he started telling me about his difficult family situation and his plan to go to US or Canada.

Life is tough in india etc.

Want to change majors

I’m currently at WGU working on my bachelors in elementary education, but lately I been feeling like teaching is not for me. Im in my first term one month 1/2 month in, about to take my 4th class. I want to change my major to Communications, but I really like my mentor. I did bring this up to her via email before and she said to talk to careers advice to see what I can actually do with a communications major. At this point I just want my degree. As a sahm I want to go back to work. Would I have to get a new mentor if I switch? Would I lose my term? I have to make a decision fast.

Information Technology What laptop do you use??

I start my first term on November 1st, and back when I first applied in July/august, I went through the tech requirements and my laptop made the cut but just BARELY, and I guess maybe they updated them because now nothing I own will work 😩

I have an old ass MacBook Air (like 2015, will not update past Big Sur) and an even older windows desktop that won’t go past windows 10.

A brand new laptop really isn’t in my budget, but I also don’t want to get something just barely making the tech requirements where in the next year it’ll be ineligible. anything over $200 is honestly cutting it, because I also have to make payments on the amount of money that fafsa didn’t cover ☹️

I really don’t know much about laptops OTHER than Apple, but I know that Apple is not preferred for the IT degree because of enterprise tools, and the fact that they are SO overpriced. What’s a really good laptop that isn’t the price of a used car?? 😩

WGU Communications vs. Business Management

I’m currently enrolled in WGU’s Communications program and I’m only six classes away from graduating. However, I’ve been considering switching to Business Management, which would leave me with approximately 14 additional courses.

I’ve already ventured into entrepreneurship, and my long term goal is to continue building and growing my own business. However, I also want a degree that provides solid career opportunities and financial stability if I ever need to fall back on traditional employment.

For those who have completed or are currently enrolled in either program, I’d love to hear about your experience. I’m especially interested in learning more about the Business Management program. Is the coursework primarily focused on corporate environments and managing employees, or does it also provide knowledge that could be useful for someone building and running their own business?

I’d also love to hear about career opportunities after graduation and whether you feel your degree has been beneficial.

I’ve been working hard to finish my current degree, so taking on additional courses is a big decision. I’m trying to determine whether switching would be worthwhile.

I’d appreciate any honest experiences or advice!

Dropout to B.S. Business Management graduate!

I’m 34 and tried to do my bachelor’s twice, but I dropped out both times because of finances. Thankfully, that never hurt my career. I have 11 years of operations experience in aviation and logistics, but something was always missing, and I wanted that degree.

I found out about WGU on Reddit in February 2026. After some quick research, I realized Sophia was the way to start. I had 9 courses from previous university studies, but since they were all general ed, I didn’t want to pay for a third-party course-by-course evaluation. I only had my high school transcript evaluated, and I went with Sophia for the rest to save time and money. In total, I completed 36 courses for my Bachelor of Science in Business Management, 7 of them through Sophia.

A note for Canadians: I’m Canadian and live in Ontario, and WGU accepted my enrollment application without a hassle. I received my Owl’s Nest rewards promptly, and the whole process was no different from a U.S. citizen’s. I did read that Newfoundland and Labrador is excluded, but I had no issues in Ontario. Canadians are also restricted to non-clinical degrees. WGU is listed and approved by the Canada Revenue Agency, so you can claim your tuition for the tax credit just as you would at a Canadian university. I used Ucredo for my high school transcript evaluation and recommend it. It’s on WGU’s approved list and accepts digital copies, which saves you the mail time.

I was on parental leave, which in Canada is 35 weeks and job-protected. Mine started in December, 2025. In March, I gave my employer notice that I wouldn’t be coming back because the job was too stressful. I decided to use that time to study and look for a new job, and I ended my leave early when I found one in June.

My timeline:

•       February: I found out about WGU and started researching.

•       March: I completed 20% of the degree on Sophia in one month (7 courses). I was able to finish Project Management before the deadline, because as of April 1st WGU restricts Sophia credit transfers to general education and lower-division courses. When Sophia emailed me about the WGU update, I transferred the 7 courses and committed to a May 1st start date.

•       May: 8 courses.

•       June: I found a good job and ended my parental leave early, so I only managed 1 course that month.

•       July: 5 courses.

•       August: 6 courses.

•       September: 7 courses.

•       October: C721 and QGT1 (Capstone). I officially graduated on October 15th, 2026, finishing the degree in one term with 16 days to spare.

I earned 2 Excellence Awards (D268 and C717) and had to revise 3 PA's across the whole degree.

From June on, I did this with an infant and a toddler at home, an extremely supportive wife, and a 40-50 hour work week. The courses can be done quickly, but my experience helped a lot. It’s a Business Management degree, and I already knew 60-70% of what I studied, which is why I was able to accelerate. But if you think this is a walk in the park, you’re mistaken. You’ll still do the same work you would at any other university. The difference is that if you want to move fast, WGU lets you. That’s why I love WGU.

My mentor was nothing short of AWESOME! We spoke on the phone once, and after I started my new job we kept in touch by email. She kept me going and motivated when I was burnt out. You’d think they would want you to take longer so they profit more, but they actually encourage you to keep going. When my mentor was away, Tier 1 Support was prompt and responsive when I emailed them. I also opened an IT ticket, and they handled it great too.

Reddit was my biggest help. Just Google the course code plus “Reddit.” I guarantee you’ll find a hero who posted an exact map with all the details on how to pass that course. The best advice I read there for anyone who wants to accelerate: if you think you’re 80% ready, take the OA.

D080: Easier than Reddit makes it seem. I actually loved it, and it gave me a new perspective on the world economy and politics. Of all the courses, it’s the one I learned the most from. It took me 5 days, and the OA took 40 minutes.

D099: From what I’ve read, this course scares a lot of people, but I found it even easier than D080. It’s a knowledge checkpoint for the whole degree. It covers everything, and most of the questions are the same ones you saw in the courses earlier in the degree plan.

D388: Reddit made this one sound easier than it was for me. The OA is administered in Excel, and I absolutely hated this course. It caused me mental pain. It was also the longest OA at 2 hours. I use Excel daily, but never at that level, so maybe it’s just me.

C483: This was the closest I came to failing. I was cocky after what I’d read on Reddit, and I barely passed. It scared the hell out of me and gave me a reality check. Maybe that’s why I didn’t fail any OA.

The rest of my OAs only took me 25-30 minutes each.

Proctoring: The experience was OK overall. My camera couldn’t scan my ID (too blurry), so each time I had to take a picture with my phone and show it. I also had a technical issue after the exam login once and had to wait 40 minutes. There were no weird requests about camera positioning and no comments about minor movement.

WGU is an AMAZING university, and my whole experience was great. Honestly, I can’t think of anything bad to say about it. It will forever be in my heart because it gave me the thing I wanted most. Third time’s the charm, I guess, lol.

The next commencement is at the beginning of November, so I won’t be able to make it to that one. I’m waiting for the 2027 dates to be released, hopefully this month, to decide which one to go to. I’m definitely walking, baby!

I haven’t received my certificate yet, but I couldn’t let this moment pass without thanking this community. The people here, and the strangers who took the time to write up their experiences, made this possible for me. I’m truly grateful.

To anyone considering WGU: DO IT!

Help! Record a video delivering the presentation using Panopto

I'm doing my E011 second task, and the instructions say to "Record a video of yourself delivering the presentation using Panopto in which you appear on camera verbally presenting each slide using the speaker notes to guide your discussion of the main points.

Note: The audiovisual recording should feature you visibly presenting the material (i.e., not in voiceover or embedded video) and should simultaneously capture both you and your multimedia presentation."

This is slightly confusing to me. I can't use embedded video, so am I supposed to set up a camera that records my screen and me in front of it? Or is it just indicating I shouldn't record a video separately and embed it? I wish they would provide examples because the wording is not terribly clear. And I'm supposed to use speaker notes, though I'm not sure whether they want to see them or just verify them with the presentation. I feel like I'm missing something here...

Edit: Thanks for the responses. I think I've got what I need now.

Thinking about transferring, what are your opinions?

I’m thinking about transferring to WGU. I currently have my associates degree in accounting I was working on my bachelors but I’m struggling with the school I’m at. I’m not struggling with the coursework, the coursework is easy. But it is hard to manage my work, school, and life balance with the structure of a normal college. I don’t think it’s about how many assignments I have to do, I think it’s having them due on certain days. For example on Thursdays and Sundays I have assignments due every week, but I work a m-f 9-5 job and my coursework each week doesn’t unlock until Mondays so I have to try and squeeze in my assignments that are due on Thursdays after work during the week but I can’t do them early the weekend before because I don’t have access to them.

Some of my credits will transfer but not all which is fine. I just wanted to see what people’s opinions were about the accounting program. How hard or easy would it be to do 12 credits a term working a 9-5 job? What is financial aid like for WGU? My parents won’t fill out my fafsa, at my current school my parent was able to sign a form saying they refused to fill out the fafsa so I would qualify for loans and scholarships, does WGU have anything similar? What’s the likelihood of getting a scholarship at WGU so I don’t have to take out as much in loans or drain all of my savings?

D361 - Q1 Question

Hello all,

I'm in the process of completing this simulation. I have completed Q1, but it told me that I can't start on Q2 until I receive results? Where would I find those? How long do I have to wait on that? I've seen some people say I can start on Q2 immediately after Q1 and then others say no, so I'm feeling confused on what to do.
