Since joining this WEIRD group, I have very much enjoyed things I've seen and have found out about things I didn't know existed with AL !

Recently I had shared an ALbum milestone where I had acquired All 14 studio albums on CD. One day would get of copy of PETER & The Wolf. A very kind person on here reached out and offered to send me this copy for FREE 🤯 I couldn't be more grateful for such a generous gift!

Picture AL seems to be getting younger

Since it's his birthday, I thought it would be interesting to see how much he changed between 2022 and 2025. He seems to be aging in reverse!

All the broccoli and beer for my hero today.

Article I interviewed Justin Remer (author of "Weird Al" Yankovic's "Weird Al" Yankovic in 3-D")

I interviewed author and musician Justin Remer about his new book that covers Weird Al's In 3-D album (part of the 33 1/3 book series on popular music albums). It's a great read and Justin's a great guy. It's amazing looking back at the jump from Weird Al's self-titled debut album to this one.

Thought you Weird Al fans might enjoy giving this a listen. :D

Discussion I almost forgot that today was his birthday!

well, happy birthday!

one thing that's Weird to know about Al, is that 27 is NOT the day of the month of his birthday, although it's fair to say that you get 27 if you convert 23 (base-10) to octal (base-8).

and here's another thing that might be Weird to know about Al, he shares a birthday with Jurassic Park author Michael Crichton, and both guys had a wife named Suzanne, and even Weird Al himself made a Jurassic Park parody song. So there's a coincidence to share regarding October 23 birthdays!

To be pedantic...

Technically, most of Al's work doesn't actually count as parody. By legal definition, to be a parody, a song (or other work) but directly mock the source. That means songs like "Smells Like Nirvana" and "(This Song's Just) Six Words Long" are parodies, but "White and Nerdy", "Fat", "Can't Watch This", and so on don't count. Instead, most "parodies" actually fall under the categories of pastiche or satire.

A pastiche is similar in concept to a parody but celebrates, rather than mocks, the source, like an homage. It is included with parody as fair use in UK copyright law,^[1] but I could not find specific details for the US.

In satire, a work is used to mock something else, unrelated to the original. For example, Al using "American Pie" to mock Star Wars in "The Saga Begins" is satire because the subject of mockery isn't related to the original song. Satire isn't covered under the US fair use doctrine.^[2]
