Forest Flight- Side Effects of Optimization
Built a tool to help me understand bottle necks and keep visual continuity. Enjoyed running this test so I thought I'd share!

A voxel is a portmanteau of the words "volume" and "pixel"--meaning a voxel is a volumetric-pixel.
If a pixel is a two-dimensional square, a voxel is a three-dimensional cube.
Currently voxels are used in medical fields to create three-dimensional maps of the human body, usually created by CAT-scan and associated scanning technologies. Voxel-tech in medical uses has proved to be computationally and storage intensive.
But this technology is very promising, and as computing power has improved other uses for voxels have been discovered and developed.
Recently voxel-fluid simulation has allowed engineers to replace wind-tunnels with accurate simulations..
And now voxel tech with Nvidia is improving lighting technology.
What new uses for voxels will people come up with tomorrow?

Everything is rendered by images and internal voxel structure no 3d models are used in game, custom lighting solution with shadows also implemented
Finally game is progressing bit by bit, can't wait to start working on proper fighting with enemies

This is a palace courtyard in the spirit of Sponza, the classic lighting test scene, and one of the sample scenes in a voxel editor I'm making for game artists. In the video the sun moves across the sky. The coloured curtains tint the floor and the vaults, and the aisles the sun never reaches are lit only by bounced light.
What I think makes it nice for artists:
Materials on palette colours. Glass, metal, glossy stone, water and glowing lanterns are set per colour, so the pool reflects the arcades and the lanterns light the aisles.
Layers like a paint program. Every part here (arches, curtains, fountain, plants) is its own layer, with blend modes and opacity. You can restyle or hide one without touching the rest.
Lighting you control. You set the sun's direction and height yourself, and the final render happens right in the editor, so what you model is what you get.
Room to build big. Models aren't capped at 256³.
What would you want from an editor like this? What's the most tedious part of your voxel workflow right now? I’m mostly interested in edition features you would like to have, the render is here only to grab your attention :)

A world that reacts to its own music. The kick shakes the sea, notes fire sparks, a gull whistles along.
