Discussion / Question The Thing I Don't Understand About Sony Ending Physical Discs

Their own first party games sell really well physically. Some regions have almost 50% of their sales physically for these games. So they expect those people will just buy digitally because there's no other option? Wouldn't that run the risk of losing ground in those regions like they did in Japan for not having a handheld device for so long? What's the long game here?

Do we all have to just give in to a digital only future just because the best selling games every year (sports titles, COD, etc) just so happen to sell mostly digital?

Discussion / Question Dishonored ruined other games for me lol.

There 100's of game that are considered good.

One may have amazing gameplay. One may have amazing story, And one might make you deep questions.

But there are very few that can all of those and do them right.

Those are what I consider masterpiece.

Dishonored is that Masterpiece.
I can sit here and talk about all the other things that Dishonored does so well.....

but the part that ruined games for me was

The player freedom.

This game gives you ridiculous amounts of freedom

and variety in the consequences of your decisions.

HOW DID THEY DO IT? IT'S BLACK MAGIC.

Discussion / Question Plague Tale: most unfun games I've ever played

both Innocence & Requiem, for similar & also different reasons. Resonance is excluded from this as I haven't played it yet.

Gameplay: Innocence suffered from extreme linearity & lack of freedom, which made its gameplay an unfun chore at times. This was partially remedied in Requiem by the larger levels & more options to tackle enemies, though it's still not saying much because the the first game set the bar very low. Requiem's gameplay is still lackluster by today's standard with its weak AI, repetitive limited gameplay loop & the not-so-responsive controls.

Difficulty: Both games are ridiculously easy 95% of the times, but in the other 5% they suddenly become unforgiving if you don't do certain things in a very specific sequence. This is often worsened by the questionable placement of autosaves, forcing you to go through scripted dialogues or waiting scenes etc. every single time you fail.

Story: the core of the story is basically Last of Us but with a more interesting concept; the mysterious plague. Sadly both games fail to make anything interesting out of it or answer any important questions by the end, like the origins & the "How" of the plague.

Characters: Amicia & Hugo are basically Joel & Ellie, the protector & the child, journeying through the country, hoping for a cure. but they don't have even a fraction of the maturity of the writing of Last of Us.

Emotions: TLoU did so much with so little, emotional scenes were few but always moving & memorable, characters rarely cried but when they did, you'd feel it & remember it. in Plague Tale, however, the characters are constantly yelling at your face their emotions of fear & sadness & yet it still fails to get any emotion out of me because the characters were never interesting in the first place.

Dialogue: Amicia's incessant monolgues about her fears & worries, her & Lucas constantly panicking whenever they're together, & Hugo always complaining about being scared or things being his fault... it's too much & too annoying. I became hopeful every time an adult character joined their company, hoping they might make things a little more mature & bearable, but they just continued in the same path of weak childish lines as the children.

a personal subjective complaint of mine is Hugo's voice, it's so screechy & annoying, it's honestly like nails on a chalkboard.

All of this got way more annoying in Requiem because for some reason they got rid of their authentic french accents for british, & made them talk x10 times more, as if they were scared of having a moment of silence in their game. There is so much pointless banter & lame jokes that honestly made me consider muting the dialogue audio at times.

Graphics: the only strength of Plague Tale games, incredible graphics with impressive performance. There were so many scenes in Requiem when there were hundreds of thousands of rats in the screen, with decent quality & moving fast too, & yet there was never any framerate drop, it was pretty impressive.

Overall I found these games very boring & tiring to play, rarely finding myself actually having fun in them. I'm never touching them again, though I might try Resonance at some point since it doesn't have Hugo & Amicia, which alone is a big upside lol. 3/10 do Not recommend.

Discussion / Question 2026 GOTY & Orchestra Order Prediction :)

As the GOTY predictions start filling my feed, here are my final 6 GOTY nominees and also a prediction on the orchestra order :)

Would love to see more orchestra predictions - loved hearing fan theories on how it would transition, especially people who try composing it themselves (i just mesh them together... no that well :))

How do you guys think the orchestra will go with your predictions?

Discussion / Question im tired of ts

every game I play, especially popular ones, whenever someone brings up valid complaints about mechanics or issues, 70% of the replies are “play something else,” “just quit then,” or “go make your own game.” no one actually uses their brain to debate the actual point and to see who’s in the right. where can I find a gaming community that isn't full of dev-bootlickers? im so tired of writing essays to point out points that should be considered looking at of a game and the comments are full of bots, not so sure if any of them ever actually read my post.

Discussion / Question Street Fighter 2026: Non-Spoiler Review

Post image
0 Upvotes

There was something about the trailers for Street Fighter 2026 that got me excited for the film. It seemed pretty irreverent and leaned into the video game vibe that set it apart from the more serious take of the recent Mortal Kombat films. It had a tone that made me want to watch it.

Now, the previous Street Fighter films have been pretty up and down in terms of quality. The 1994 film has something of a cult following (probably more for its "so bad it's good" vibe), with quotable lines and Raul Julia delivering a standout performance. Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, on the other hand, was pretty forgettable and failed to deliver on any of its promise. So I thought, maybe this time we were finally going to get an adaptation that would elevate Street Fighter in the cinematic realm.

Alas, it was not meant to be. I mean, I'll be honest, I really wanted to like this film, but I came away feeling pretty disappointed.

First, let me talk about the film's good parts. There are animated sequences in the film that pop up here and there that are really well done. So good, in fact, that I found myself wishing the whole film had been done in that style.

However, things that work in animation don't always translate well into live action, and the rest of the movie feels a bit disjointed, with the tone jumping around from outright campiness to complete seriousness.

When the movie works, it's when it fully embraces its video gamey roots. It doesn't bother explaining why people are capable of phenomenal feats. Instead, it just revels in the absurdity of it all and uses it to create spectacle after spectacle.

Where the film falters is in the overwhelming sense of melodrama that pervades a good bulk of its characters, melodrama that feels neither earned nor necessary. This is especially evident with Ryu, whose portrayal by Andrew Koji feels like it belongs in a completely different movie. Don't get me wrong, I actually like Koji's Ryu, but his performance has a totally different serious tone from the rest of the cast, who seem to be having a great time hamming it up.

I also felt like a lot of the characters were underutilised, and I got the distinct impression that quite a few of their scenes had been left on the cutting room floor. Which is a shame, because there were several characters who got a big build-up that ultimately amounted to nothing.

Speaking of which, Jason Momoa as Blanka has to be one of the biggest examples of stunt casting I've seen in a while. Given the CG nature of the role and his story arc, pretty much anyone could have played the role. It felt like a bit of a waste, and yet another character saddled with drama that really didn't need to be.

My last nitpick is that I felt the audio for the dialogue was poorly mastered. There were quite a few moments where I genuinely struggled to make out what was being said. Not that it mattered all that much, as the story is really just an excuse to string a bunch of fights together. There are plenty of plot holes and nonsensical story beats, but I'm pretty sure Street Fighter fans aren't going to see this movie for its story.

The fights themselves were adequate. I do think the editing diminished the impact of some of them, and quite a few seemed to finish just as they were getting going. I guess that's the downside of having such a big ensemble cast and a limited amount of screen time to give everyone their moment.

As things go, this movie certainly has more production value than its 1994 counterpart and is definitely better than The Legend of Chun-Li. Whether you enjoy it or not will probably come down to how big a Street Fighter fan you are and how much you're willing to overlook its shortcomings. Personally, I'd just wait to watch this one at home.

If you do decide to catch it in cinemas, there is a mid-credits scene, and that's it. Don't bother waiting till the end :)

Discussion / Question What comes to your mind when you hear “ peak character development “ ?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Character development is really important in basically most story games or at least the ones that are non heavily focused action game
And some games handle character development in one game or throughout the series
For example Arthur Morgan in rdr2
And if we would also mention rdr2
We would mention John Marston in rdr2 and rdr1

There are certainly other characters but my favorite is Arthur Morgan from rdr2

Discussion / Question What’s the last game you went into feeling truly excited?

Either I’ve been playing it obsessively, or I’ve just completely lost myself in its world.

Right now, I’m hooked on Wardogs—it’s consuming me in a way I haven’t experienced in a long time. I’ve always loved Call of Duty, but that series has really gone downhill over the last few years; Wardogs, however, brings the feeling of war back to my screen. 😅

Discussion / Question Why was crimson deserts story so bad ?

I just finished crimson desert, not the enhanced version just the regular one . It took me about 3-4 months , and I have no idea what the story was even back , it’s like they tried to incorporate so many plot lines/ details to make it lore heavy , and somehow there still was no story in it , i don’t even understand what happened at the end , there was no urgency in the plot , they made it seem like its some world ending event and it felt like it didn’t even matter , is the enhanced version even better? Feel like the main story was just so jam packed and i still couldn’t make out the plot lol .

Btw this game still has some of the best gameplay I’ve ever experienced in a game , no doubt it’s a very fun game , just no story to it which is unfortunate considering how cool the world is , story had so much more potential

The "collector's edition"literally looks different in every image and the proportions of the sword look so bad; why would you people pay for this when not a single real image can be seen, and how can they even model it with all the details if the game isn't out?

Discussion / Question What games count for celebrating Halloween?

Is it just survival horror or games about Halloween? Do games that have skins, outfits, decorations also count? I'm curious what you think and what you're playing for Halloween this year. Do you play anything that most wouldn't count for Halloween?
