60 AET2 here due to PCS next year and I think the 60 world is starting to burn me out. Next to 0 flying, constant heavy maintenance cycles, and the lack of job satisfaction has me starting to dislike coming into work every morning. To top it off the AET2 60 shopping list is dogshit this year, especially with no-compete extensions going away, but the C-130 has a bunch of openings in E-City that might be able to have me work out a LDR situation with my girlfriend being on the East Coast and all.
How's the work-life balance of the C-130 world and the C-130 BA and MSO qual to be more specific? I'm not opposed to going to Kodiak, but if I have to go, I'd rather have a better work-life balance than what I have currently. Absolutely love being an AET, but man this airframe is starting to burn me out.

Is there a carpool or shuttles to Base Miami Beach? Without doxxing yourself, any advice on where to live, buy or rent, and commuter conveyance?

The Helmsman suggests bringing long underwear for the chilly months. Does this mean pants and long sleeve top baselayers? Or just the pants? Do they have to specifically be those thermal material underwear or would more sporty base layers (similar to leggings) be acceptable?

Hey, coasties. Wherever you fellas are, I hope that you’re doing well no matter what.
So I’ve been keeping tabs on this sub for all things Coast Guard, since I was interested in joining. Sadly, I got permanently disqualified.
Honestly, part of me feels relieved, but I'm still disappointed by the news. Sure, I might’ve saved myself some trouble, but I don’t get any chance of being part of this kind of group. It's an abysmal reminder of my life’s choices and my—seemingly—lack of self-worth.
However, I don’t want to be all doom and gloom.. But with things going in this direction, I have very few choices or pathways from here. The only other services that comes to mind are the Air Force, Air National Guard, or reserves.
Apprenticeships are another option. It depends on whether it’s a union, but competition is stiff. I sure as hell do not want to remain in my role as an Amazon DSP driver. I know that working in government is a guarantee, one way or another.
Anyways, if anybody here has been PDQ’d or has anything relevant, I’m down to hear feedback or suggestions. Above and beyond for the ones who’ve served or are currently serving, I give a heartfelt thanks to y’all. With that, fire away….

Hello, I was wondering if my fellow lady shipmates (or the guys too if ya’ll know) could answer a question I have regarding the female tropical blue shirt. How do ya’ll typically line up your name tape and ribbons on the shirt? For the male shirt you have the pockets, and they give clear guidelines on that one. Whereas for the female shirt, the pockets are not there, and I have yet to see any clear rules on how it should look. I was always just told to “make them even and line up.” So I would appreciate any help you can provide. Thank you.

Considering becoming an Aux member as I have some skillsets that could be useful. I’m 100 P&T with the VA so no way I’d be able to get into the reserves.
Plus I wouldn’t want to get sent down to River Wall on involuntary orders and mess with my civilian career.
Anyone do this? For those who don’t need the benefits like Tricare the Aux actually seems like the perks of the reserves while being a civilian

Of the Coast Guard's 11 statutory missions, only five align under the Department of Homeland Security. Three should be reassigned to other government departments and agencies.

Curious, for DCE appointment-grade determination like if the panel were to decide someone enters as O2 or O3
O2 it says Bachelors with 1 year work after grad
O3 it says Bachelors or Masters with 3yr after grad
Does relevant Military IT experience earned before completion of my bachelor's degree count toward the 1 year or 3 year experience requirement, or must all qualifying experience occur after the degree is awarded? Example, I'd have 11yr experience before I got my bachelor's degree. All within the IT field.

Hello there! Sorry for the life story but I’m just tired and don’t know what to do. Also sorry for the possible bad story telling, this is the first time I’m writing something like this out. I’m a nonrate currently at a station, I’m about 6 months in and I’m honestly confused about what to do at this point, I’ve never been a person to do the wrong thing on purpose or knowingly doing the wrong thing, but the bm2s mainly cuss a lot at me and overall just treat me like I’m less of a human, and I’m really tired of it. I talked to my XO and to summarize what he said was basically “that’s the nonrate experience” and “they are just protecting you from me” which I guess fair enough? But most of the things I mess up is not even like a big deal at all, like one time I ended being almost late, for me I always show up around 7:45 (15 mins early) my alarm had not gone off so I ended up getting to the station around 7:55 and to me I was already annoyed bc that’s late to me so I was kind of stressed already cuz of that. Little bit of background, for our off going and oncoming section days, we schedule people for watch the day of and the new watchstander relieves the off going watchstander after boat checks are done, I had forgot about the boat checks and ended up changing out and went to relieve the watch stander (mind you I hadn’t had morning watch in probably 2-3 weeks so I forgot boat checks came first and then reliefs, also there is like 25 other people in totally that do the boat checks for like 3 boats so there wasn’t like an URGENT need for me to be there, not saying I’m too good for boat checks but it wasn’t like an emergency I be there) I had realized my mistake and went to do boat checks, they hadn’t finished so I hopped on and continued boat checks, bm2 came down and told me that I showed up “late at 8:05” which I told him wasn’t true and he told me I was lying and he said if I messed up with the watch stuff again I would get a page 7. and I had already at this point been yelled at pretty much every day for random little things that I either 1. Didn’t know in the first place, or 2. I had already been so stressed out from the constant yelling that I forgot about it. And don’t get me wrong I understand that “oh you’ve done it all bootcamp so it should be no problem” and my response to that is yeah… but that’s BOOTCAMP they are SUPPOSED to yell at you that’s their job, to me they were degrading me without a real reason, I’ve been constantly told things like “use your brain” “you can’t be this stupid” “this shit is so easy” so it just feels like unnecessarily cruel? It had even got to the point where my name was called on the intercom so often, that I had subconsciously associated someone saying my name with me being in trouble. :/ which as you can imagine is probably not a great. It really sucks too because without saying I’m perfect or anything, I’d like to consider myself pretty nice, I’m always warm and welcoming to new faces to the station, always trying to help them figure out things, because I understand how it feels to be on your own away from family potentially figuring out life after high school (I’m 18) and I don’t want people to feel alone in navigating that. That being said I don’t understand why I’m being treated this way, I try my very best at everything and ask questions every time I don’t understand and most times people don’t even want to help me, I had failed my watch board because they asked me questions about things I wasn’t aware I had to know, and come to find out not only did other people not get asked those questions at all, everyone on the board was aware that I “was f***n terrible” and not a SINGLE one of them came and helped me after the board, I’m not saying everyone needs to be best friends with me but come on. You see another HUMAN BEING, let’s put away rank for a second, another SOUL clearing struggling with something and NOBODY helps them? Aren’t we supposed to be a team? And to this day most times I ask for help 8/10 the don’t end up helping me. We have a new bm2 from the other section and I thought it would be better, but it’s just as bad as before, he yelled at me and cussed at me because I “had an attitude and need to put away my ego” the reason he said that? Because I told mk3 who was running me through a preboard that I knew the answer to the question he asked but didn’t understand the way he worded the question. BM2 doesn’t know anything about me but got mad at me over something he came up with in his own head, instead of asking me either to clarify or even inform me of how I could have been potentially coming off as, it just straight to cussing and yelling at me. There’s so much more too but I think this is a good stopping point. Thank you for reading all of this, I’m getting really fed up and tired of this treatment, just wondering if anyone else is having a similar experience or maybe any advice? I understand the whole “obey orders and don’t talk back” but it’s getting really difficult to tolerate straight up lack of human decency or empathy.

I have the possibility of transferring there next year and I'm curious how it is. Interested to hear anything people have to say about it. I think the job sounds pretty cool, but I'm hesitant on the location.
How are the facilities? The local area?
Any input or knowledge is appreciated!

Hey guys i recently PCSd (first time since cape may) and i did a PPM
I didn’t know you needed to see a counselor before and now I’m at my next unit and I don’t have what I need to get my travel claim. I have a few questions for you guys and yes i have gone to my YNs and they are telling me all sorts of stuff.
What forms do i need signed by a counselor and what do I need to do to be able to get this streamlined to the approvers. Also any tips for the next PCS or just general information?

Title is pretty self-explanatory, is anyone here willing to sell me some size 38R ODUs? lost some weight so the 40L is a little baggy for my tastes.

I’m torn between IT and CMS A School in the Coast Guard. Both interest me, but I’m still trying to figure out which one I’d enjoy more.
Part of me wants to go IT first to get some hands on experience and see how I like the work before pursuing CMS. What does the path from IT to CMS look like? Would starting in IT help, or would you recommend pursuing CMS from the beginning?
I’d love to hear from anyone in either rating, especially anyone who went from IT to CMS. What made you choose your rating, and are you happy with your choice?

I will be leaving for USCG TRACEN Yorktown soon for A-School. I have vaguely heard that every class will have special positions like a class leader or a class yeoman.
For those of you petty officers who have already been through A-School, what exactly are the positions and what are their responsibilities? And specifically, what do you do to have one of these jobs or is it volunteer based? (I find the class lead to be intriguing because I want to learn more how to be a real leader). Thank you all for reading this!

I went to finalize and make sure I added all the units I’d want to transfer to on my pick list and saw TRACEN Birmingham Southern on there. I’m curious on how current members like it there? Is everything mostly up and running? What things do they have going on at this New TRACEN..

Hi everyone, I’m an AMT2 and 4 spots for the mq9 reaper program just opened up on the transfer list. I’m very interested in this opportunity but I want to know more about the program and the area so if anyone who is currently stationed there can tell me all about it that would be awesome, thanks!
