A space to stay accountable with your preparation, share your progress and unwind with fellow aspirants after a long day of studying.
Let's keep it friendly, respectful, and constructive. You might find a study buddy, learn something new or simply realize you're not alone in this journey.

It happened almost twice this year and the last. Unfortunately last year I spend more time on mental ability which were hard. this year I spent more time on passages but this year passages were hard.I got burnt both years. But common problem is my brain goes numb in the afternoon which makes calculation and reading passages really hard.

Hi everyone!
Iβm 22 years old and currently working in the IT sector. Iβm planning to leave my job by January and join an offline coaching institute in Delhi next year.
Money isnβt a constraint for me, but Iβm looking for an institute that offers a complete package, including quality teaching, comprehensive study material, regular tests, doubt-solving sessions, proper mentorship, and consistent guidance throughout the preparation journey.
Iβd really appreciate your suggestions on which offline coaching institute in Delhi would be the best choice for me.
Since Iβll be joining the batches next year, Iβd also like to know what factors I should consider before enrolling and whether thereβs anything I should do or research beforehand.
Iβd be grateful for any genuine recommendations, personal experiences, or advice. Thank you!

Really disheartening to see this. I know exam is ruthless, i know mental health issues are real. I know society is cruel enough to judge you before listening to you. I know we live in such a inequal society that even meeting the basic requirement is a struggle. World is harsh, soceity is cruel, systems are corrupt. in such a world, the last person who can be kind to you is yourself. So show some kindness for yourself. Dont get harsh on yourself. Its ok to fail, its ok to be imperfect, its ok to grow slower than peers, its ok to be rejected, its ok to quit upsc prep if its overwhelming, its ok to be who you are . but its not ok to be so harsh on yourself. Guys, i myself was suicidal and was in depression for 4 years. Being a survivor, i can tell that sun finally shines in your life. Have hope. Im not saying this as motivation, but as a fact. Bad time is still a time and all time shall pass. We just have to bare it. I know its hard, but its still a great choice. when we are low, we feel like giving up on life. That feeling feels real and convincing. But having gone through and survived, i can say with conviction that when you recover, you will realise how silly you were back then. You will be greatful for yourself for giving another chance for yourself. Please feel free to seek professional help. If you are feeling low, want to speek with someone, my DM is open. But please, restraint from taking the irrreversible step. RIP, my fellow brother

Sharing the ESSAY MATERIAL which I prepared for Mains 2026. I have put together notes, essay-writing methodologies learnt from various teachers, references, anecdotes and model essays, and have organised them .
A small disclaimer: While the methodology and references are based on my preparation and material from teachers, a substantial part of the written notes, essay content and model essays was prepared with the help of AI. So, please don't come after me calling it AI slop . I have spent the 10 days during preparation working on and refining this material, and I am sharing it in the hope that it might help someone.
One useful approach is reusing an anecdote across themes. Example, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalamβs journey can illustrate determination (his rise from Rameswaram), education (the role of learning in social mobility), or resilience (the setbacks before the successful SLV-3 launch).
Another disclaimer: This is not a one-stop solution for the Essay paper, nor is it a substitute for writing practice. Please treat it as reference material. You will still need to practice developing your own sub-points, arguments, examples and essay flow, and adapt the material to the topic asked in the examination.

This is something Iβve started noticing a lot during preparation.
You study for hours and feel exhausted, so you decide to take a break. But the moment you actually take one, your brain starts reminding you about the syllabus left, revisions pending, test scores, and probably someone somewhere studying while you are resting.
So you neither study properly nor enjoy the break properly.
Even watching a movie or going out for a few hours sometimes feels like you are doing something wrong.
How do you guys deal with this?
Have you actually learnt to switch off without feeling guilty, or is this just a permanent part of UPSC preparation?

22F here,,I am preparing for government job from 6 months. So because of the hectic schedule i am not getting time to take care of my body & because of this i have gained too much weight(approx 8-10kg) and it makes me feel ugly for myself...I have lost confidence for myself and i always feel very low and demotivated.
So is there any effective way to reduce body weight in less time without going to gym since i dont get time for workout??

I'm 26 years old, graduated in 2023 with a B.Tech in Computer Science, and I'm planning to appear for UPSC CSE for the first time.
What bothers me isn't necessarily my age or the difficulty of the examination. It's the fact that I have a three-year gap after graduation, with very little to show for it professionally.
Looking back, I feel I lacked the maturity, discipline, and clarity of purpose that I have today. I spent a significant part of those years being indecisive about my career, exploring different possibilities, and not really committing myself to anything meaningful. It's difficult to admit, but I feel I've wasted some of the most important years of my twenties.
Now, for the first time, I genuinely feel motivated to prepare for the Civil Services Examination. My interest in administration and public service feels much more grounded than it would have been three years ago.
However, one thought keeps bothering me:Β Even if I manage to clear Prelims and Mains, how would I explain these three years to the interview board?
I understand that honesty is important, but would admitting that I lacked direction and maturity reflect poorly on my personality? Would the board question my suitability for a responsible administrative position because of my past indecisiveness?
I'm also concerned about competing against candidates who have been academically consistent, have impressive professional backgrounds, or started preparing much earlier.
I'd particularly appreciate hearing from people who started their UPSC journey relatively late, had substantial gaps after graduation, and still managed to reach the Personality Test or final list.
Does a three-year career gap genuinely matter to the UPSC interview board, or am I overthinking something that might never become a significant issue?
Please share your experiences, especially if you've faced similar circumstances.
Used a lot of ai - sorry.

UPSC GS-2: Ultra-Compact Thinking Cheat Sheet
1. What GS-2 contains
Constitution, Preamble, rights and constitutional values
Federalism, CentreβState relations and local government
Parliament, Executive and Judiciary
Elections, political parties and pressure groups
Constitutional, statutory and regulatory bodies
Governance, transparency and accountability
NGOs, SHGs, welfare and social justice
E-governance and digital inclusion
Indiaβs foreign relations and global institutions
The supplied framework groups GS-2 around Constitution, governance, development, electoral process and international relations.
2. How UPSC frames a question
Static topic + Conflict between two values + Directive + Limited scope + Evidence + Judgment or reform
Common conflicts:
liberty versus public order
Union power versus State autonomy
independence versus accountability
stability versus legislative freedom
efficiency versus inclusion
technology versus citizen access
partnership versus strategic autonomy
Find this conflict first. It becomes the centre of the answer.
3. D-FRAME method
D β Directive
What must you do?
Explain
Analyse
Examine
Evaluate
Compare
Suggest
F β Focus
What exact topic controls the answer?
Example:
Governor, Article 21, Parliament, ECI, NGO, Quad or WTO.
R β Range
Mark the limit:
institution,
country,
period,
procedure,
public or private sphere.
A β Axes
Create two to four body headings.
M β Mandatory evidence
Choose only useful support:
Article,
law,
judgment,
committee,
scheme,
treaty,
current example.
E β Evaluation
Decide your final view before writing:
fully correct,
partly correct,
useful but limited,
desirable with safeguards.
4. Two-minute planning
First 20 seconds
Underline:
directive,
main topic,
scope,
qualifier.
Next 40 seconds
Create headings.
Next 40 seconds
Add arguments and evidence.
Final 20 seconds
Fix your conclusion.
5. Universal answer structure
Introduction
Use two sentences:
Define the topic.
State the conflict asked in the question.
Body paragraph
Claim β Why or how β Evidence β Impact β Limitation
Conclusion
Give:
clear judgment,
balance between values,
practical reform.
Avoid:
βAll stakeholders should work together.β
6. Directive guide
DirectiveRequired approachExplainMeaning β working β importanceDiscussMain sides β balance β implicationAnalyseParts β links β causes β effectsExamineTest claim β support β limit β verdictCritically examineMerits β problems β safeguardsEvaluateCriteria β performance β degree of successHow farMain cause β other causes β measured viewCompareSame criteria β similarity β differenceTraceStages β causes β present positionSuggestProblem β cause β matching solution
7. Topic templates
Rights
Right β Restriction β Legal basis β Legitimate purpose β Necessity β Proportionality β Safeguard
Federalism
Constitutional division β Union view β State concern β Conflict β Institution β Cooperative solution
Parliament
Constitutional role β Working tool β Present weakness β Cause β Democratic impact β Reform
Constitutional body
Status β Appointment β Powers β Independence β Accountability β Performance β Reform
Governance
Actor β Delivery method β Citizen result β Accountability gap β State responsibility β Improvement
E-governance
Platform β Citizen journey β Access problem β Privacy β Error correction β Appeal β Final service
International Relations
Geography β Indiaβs interest β Cooperation β Conflict β External influence β Policy choice
International organisation
Mandate β Instrument β Achievement β Limitation β Indiaβs interest β Reform
8. Solution framework
Never write random reforms.
Use:
Problem β Root cause β Matching reform β Safeguard β Implementation β Review
Example:
Problem: Digital exclusion
Cause: Poor internet and rigid authentication
Reform: Assisted centres and offline option
Safeguard: Privacy and human appeal
Review: Measure completed services, not app downloads
9. Evidence rule
Use one strong anchor for one argument.
Constitution β Article or doctrine
Judiciary β judgment and legal principle
Parliament β procedure or committee
Governance β delivery mechanism and result
IR β geography, agreement or official action
A case name without its principle adds little value.
10. Main mistakes
writing the whole chapter,
missing part of the demand,
repeating the same idea,
listing Articles without analysis,
mixing different legal procedures,
using examples without explaining their relevance,
treating formal power as actual success,
giving vague reforms,
ending without a judgment.
11. Final exam-hall formula
READ Directive + topic + scope THINK What values are in conflict? PLAN 2β4 headings WRITE Claim β mechanism β evidence β impact β limit REFORM Problem β cause β matching solution CLOSE Clear degree + balanced path
Final rule
Do not ask: βWhat do I know about this topic?β
Ask:
βWhat exact relationship is UPSC testing, how does it work, where does it fail, and how can it be repaired?β

I've been staying inside for years while preparing for UPSC, and it's honestly becoming depressing. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to manage this lifestyle, and I feel like I need a change. I'm considering taking a low-paying job, even though I know it might affect my preparation. But at the same time, I'm wondering if getting out of the house, interacting with people, and having some financial independence might improve my mental health.
Anyone who has done their GS Foundation from NEXT IAS.
Wanted to know a few details about the course
Are the classes good?
What materials are provided?
How many days a week do classes usually happen?
Does the syllabus get completed on time? Or they stretch it towards the end and take double classes?
Anyone who has any idea about any of these.

Hi all, I started my preparation in dec 2025, but didn't study seriously till now. I used to study at max 5 hrs a day, and with uneven breaks and slump of 3-4 days, but last 20 days, I m stuck in some loop, study is literally 0
. I plan , then I sleep or waste time on phone( screen time avg 11 hrs) .
Following portions are yet to complete
Agriculture
Internal security
International relations
Post independence
World history
Ancient, medieval
Art and culture
Environment
Disaster management
Science and technology
Geography mapping.
I had joined mgp test series, but since Sept 25, I have not given any test, backlog of 5 half length test. I am not doing continuous answer writing for last 1 month. No current affairs, no revision. To sum it all, I have forgotten how to study. Now I make a plan to do it all, but then I have developed fear of studying, unable to study even for 1 hrs.
Upsc 2027 seems impossible now, what should I do.

Iβm trying to build a limited, revision-friendly UPSC CSE booklist for both Prelims and Mains. My goal is to avoid collecting material and instead revise each core source multiple times.
Please be brutally honest: tell me what is unnecessary, overlapping, outdated, or missing. I am not looking for ten more sourcesβonly replacements/additions if something is genuinely insufficient.
Prelims / GS foundation
Mains-specific sources β planned later
What would you remove, replace, or add , while keeping this list as lean as possible?

Hello guys, Iβve been struggling with this for a week.
The application form in the Cabinet Secretariat DFO (Technical) advertisement PDF isnβt properly aligned, making it difficult to fill in after printing.
Should we recreate the form in Word with proper alignment or fill in the original as it is, or is there a proper PDF available that I might have missed?
Please help if anyone knows. Thanks!

Guys I couldn't clear last 2 prelims. The 2026 prelims has completely scared me and demotivated me. Please help me choose a good crash course. I am confused between MAD of Satyam jain sir and Saarthi IAS prelims navigator
Guys I am hardly getting 43 to 48 marks in shubra ranjan psir test series. I feel demotivated. But when I see the toppers copies uploaded in her website I feel that I am almost near their style of writing. If someone has some experience please guide me.

Lowkey feels a bit lonely when everyone around you is chasing internships, placements and corporate careers while youβre on a completely different track.
Thereβs also the opportunity cost and the constant thought of having a Plan B.
Just wanted to connect with people in a similar situation, maybe discuss prep, career choices and backup plans. Feel free to DM!

Hi everyone, currently a 3rd-year college student and have decided to officially begin my UPSC CSE preparation
I would love to get some guidance, tips & "mistakes to avoid" from seniors who are further along in this journey
Specifically I would appreciate advice on:-
1) Where/How to start
by NCERTs from 6-12th, newspapers, any coaching (online) to join, standard books, which subjects to start with etc
2) The major mistakes or traps beginners fall into during the first few months that I should avoid.
