Ask r/UPSC Home Minister objects to officer's publicity
Does this advise not fit the political class more aptly than the bureaucrats.
Who is in actual need of this advise more? Politicians or bureaucrats

Are you guys actually preparing for the UPSC CSE interview already, or are you, like me, just waiting for the Mains result?
I’ve been spending my days doing literally nothing. No proper preparation, no productive routine, just passing time and waiting for November. 😭
Part of me feels like I should start preparing for the interview, but another part of me just can’t get myself to do anything until the results are out.
Please tell me I’m not the only one going through this. 🥲 How are you guys spending these days?

Want to compare positives and negatives of both IAS & IPS.
Reality of :
1) Perceived poor work life balance in IPS
2) Administrative precedence of IAS over IPS
3) Purely HQ work without much limelight in IAS beyond district postings
4) More thrilling, satisfying, impactful work in IPS
5) More Manpower, Awe, Fear/respect of IPS over IAS
6) Lack of specialisation of IAS leading to a drop in respect by specific departments vs Growth in expertise of IPS with age.

It happened almost twice this year and the last. Unfortunately last year I spend more time on mental ability which were hard. this year I spent more time on passages but this year passages were hard.I got burnt both years. But common problem is my brain goes numb in the afternoon which makes calculation and reading passages really hard.

I am currently starting my first foundation classes at Sarthi IAS with Aditya Kalia sir's economy , and I have decent backlogs to cover
Is it okay if i don't make own notes and print the pdf notes given by them and read them for reference and understanding?
I can later make short notes/flow charts and keywords type notes once I get knowledge of the topics ...is it. A good approach? Kindly help , thank you

He must be going through some hard times
But what forced him to take such extreme step ?
r/UPSC • u/CraftedCandid • 11h ago
Lik for example, I was going through agriculture part of the syllabus. And as per the previous year questions, the commission hasn't asked anything from micronutrients of the soil, and its functions. Yes it might ask the govt subsidies.
So by that means, should we go forward with a topic or concept never being asked strictly following the PYQs or is it possible that anything can change and be asked anytime.

I thought I would read newspaper daily after mains, go to gym and get fit etc, but instead I started this series of fantasy novels (stormlight archive), went site seeing twice, played a lot of video games, watched a couple of web series and anime and I don't even have the dread of the looming result and interview prep.
Reminds me of the old meme - na dare na gym kare, series nipta dun jb man kre XD
But I think it is high time I start interview prep hence the post, I had been preparing alongside job and no coaching so I don't know anyone else who is preparing for interview. If someone is willing, can we discuss the day's newspaper and basics of dafs (please drop comment). Preferably someone from Rajasthan and/or in CS/IT/Finance related field.
Also any tips for interview prep would be appreciated :)
I have already read some recalls of previous years' PT experience

I’ve dreamed of clearing UPSC and joining the police service, specifically becoming an IPS officer, ever since I was a kid. It has always been something I genuinely wanted to achieve, but for the past few years, I’ve been developing tremors in both my hands and my head. I suspect it might be essential tremor because my father also experiences tremors, although I haven’t confirmed the diagnosis with a neurologist yet. My head tremor becomes more noticeable when I’m stressed, and I’m really worried about what this could mean for my future. Becoming an IPS officer is my dream, and it honestly feels heartbreaking to think that I might have to give up on something I’ve wanted for so long because of circumstances beyond my control.
The thought that I could work hard, clear the exam, and get a good rank, only to be declared medically unfit because of my tremors, scares me. It feels unfair to potentially lose a dream not because I lack the determination or ability to pursue it, but because of something I never chose and cannot simply control. Is there anyone here who knows about the medical standards for IPS selection or has experience with a similar condition? Can someone with essential tremor, particularly head and hand tremors, be considered medically fit for IPS? I would genuinely appreciate any accurate information, personal experiences, or advice on whom I should contact to clarify my eligibility. This dream means a lot to me, and I just want to know whether I still have a chance.

Hi people , I've completed a 4 year integrated B.sc.B.Ed course In 2025 and later joined MCA , completely irrelevant cause i didn't have computers in ug ,
i joined only because I could acquire a little knowledge of computers but the course in real is complex and
another reason was I could stay at home since it's Post Graduation ,I'll have half day free and spend time reading for upsc
For some reason I didn't leave the course and eventually the first semester was completed , I have very little knowledge of computers and not of the level of masters degree , I'm also worried if somebody questions me why I opt for the course and pursued it . If knowledge was the point I could acquire it from online sources , I really don't know how to justify
I really don't want to go to the software side from the beginning, and now one year down I don't want to leave the course too
Regarding prep I'm doing good , not bad . I'm not wasting time and only learning very slowly , getting to know the concepts , reading not in a hurry ,
I chose sociology optional and have been doing it since September this year
My plan was to give my first attempt in 2028 as I only have limited attempts , and the MCA course completes by September 2027, too late .
Is that fine ? The time from sept 2027 to prelims 2028 will be sufficient for prep ? Ok for consolidation of concepts?

I am a PCM+CS student studying grade 11 right now. I am focusing on NDA and am trying my best to cover current affairs and GK. Suggest some good YouTube channels for them please. I am also finding it difficult to form my own opinions and end up just memorising information, any tips? Not sure how to manage school, Extra curriculars and NDA.

Hi everyone!
I’m preparing for UPSC CSE and am currently confused between Sociology and Anthropology as my optional subject. I’d appreciate advice from people who have taken either optional, especially those who have appeared for Mains.
A little about me:
I’d love your advice on the following:
If you have taken either optional, I’d be grateful if you could share what you liked or disliked about it, your preparation strategy, and anything you wish you had known before choosing.
I’m looking for honest, experience-based advice rather than claims that one optional is universally more scoring than the other.
Thanks in advance!

Does anyone have Rajesh Govindraj Sir’s Geography notes, preferably handwritten?
I already have his soft-copy notes from Vision IAS, but I’m specifically looking for his handwritten notes as they would be really helpful for my UPSC Geography preparation.
If anyone has them or knows where I can find them, please DM me. It would be a great help. Thank you!

Hi everyone!
I’m 22 years old and currently working in the IT sector. I’m planning to leave my job by January and join an offline coaching institute in Delhi next year.
Money isn’t a constraint for me, but I’m looking for an institute that offers a complete package, including quality teaching, comprehensive study material, regular tests, doubt-solving sessions, proper mentorship, and consistent guidance throughout the preparation journey.
I’d really appreciate your suggestions on which offline coaching institute in Delhi would be the best choice for me.
Since I’ll be joining the batches next year, I’d also like to know what factors I should consider before enrolling and whether there’s anything I should do or research beforehand.
I’d be grateful for any genuine recommendations, personal experiences, or advice. Thank you!

I am feeling extremely confused and worried because I feel like I have wasted this entire year due to struggles with procrastination and lethargy. Now I'm stressing over whether I should join an offline test series or buy mock tests from Karol Bagh, especially since my syllabus won't even be finished by January. I have no guide or mentor to help me, and I am completely lost. Please help me figure out a test schedule, when and what tests I should join ..and tell me what I should do..i should I approach if I have started preparing this late.

Which books would you guys refer to for modern history prelims. Searching the sub I found spectrum as the most preferred but there were some comments saying it's difficult to study too.
Should I go for spectrum or are there any other better resources for modern history especially constitutional history. Kindly recommend some.
Also I'm planning to refer to NCERT text books but I don't know which one to go for modern history? Old or new?

Sharing the ESSAY MATERIAL which I prepared for Mains 2026. I have put together notes, essay-writing methodologies learnt from various teachers, references, anecdotes and model essays, and have organised them .
A small disclaimer: While the methodology and references are based on my preparation and material from teachers, a substantial part of the written notes, essay content and model essays was prepared with the help of AI. So, please don't come after me calling it AI slop . I have spent the 10 days during preparation working on and refining this material, and I am sharing it in the hope that it might help someone.
One useful approach is reusing an anecdote across themes. Example, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s journey can illustrate determination (his rise from Rameswaram), education (the role of learning in social mobility), or resilience (the setbacks before the successful SLV-3 launch).
Another disclaimer: This is not a one-stop solution for the Essay paper, nor is it a substitute for writing practice. Please treat it as reference material. You will still need to practice developing your own sub-points, arguments, examples and essay flow, and adapt the material to the topic asked in the examination.

In my past prelims, sometimes I missed out on history, other times it was geography or current affairs. But one subject always had my back- polity.
But I didn't read Lakshmikant as I feel it pushes us to mug up the subject rather than understanding it. So I chose Subhash Kashyap and a bare act.
This was also useful of Mains 2026. Best part- it holistically covers prelims and mains content.
Sharing my experience in this video

Really disheartening to see this. I know exam is ruthless, i know mental health issues are real. I know society is cruel enough to judge you before listening to you. I know we live in such a inequal society that even meeting the basic requirement is a struggle. World is harsh, soceity is cruel, systems are corrupt. in such a world, the last person who can be kind to you is yourself. So show some kindness for yourself. Dont get harsh on yourself. Its ok to fail, its ok to be imperfect, its ok to grow slower than peers, its ok to be rejected, its ok to quit upsc prep if its overwhelming, its ok to be who you are . but its not ok to be so harsh on yourself. Guys, i myself was suicidal and was in depression for 4 years. Being a survivor, i can tell that sun finally shines in your life. Have hope. Im not saying this as motivation, but as a fact. Bad time is still a time and all time shall pass. We just have to bare it. I know its hard, but its still a great choice. when we are low, we feel like giving up on life. That feeling feels real and convincing. But having gone through and survived, i can say with conviction that when you recover, you will realise how silly you were back then. You will be greatful for yourself for giving another chance for yourself. Please feel free to seek professional help. If you are feeling low, want to speek with someone, my DM is open. But please, restraint from taking the irrreversible step. RIP, my fellow brother
