🎯 Project Overview
I want to build an advanced screen-streaming application that allows a user to stream their device’s screen to another device through a shareable link, IP address, or self-hosted server.
The main requirement is that viewer should be able to watch through a web browser without installing the same application on their devices. It should support both local network (LAN/Wi-Fi) streaming and optional remote access.
- High-Quality Screen Streaming
The application should support the following streaming resolutions:
* 4K (2160p)
* 2K (1440p)
* Full HD (1080p)
* 720p and lower adaptive quality options
Requirements:
* Selectable streaming resolution and bitrate.
* Smooth playback with minimal latency.
* Adjustable FPS, ideally 60 FPS where hardware permits.
* Good image quality with minimal compression artifacts.
* Adaptive bitrate and resolution based on network conditions.
* Hardware encoding and decoding where supported.
* Audio streaming with a mute/unmute option.
* Performance and thermal controls for mobile devices.
The actual maximum quality should depend on the source device, capture API, encoder, and network bandwidth.
- Browser-Based Streaming Through a Link or IP
This is one of the most important requirements.
The viewer should open a URL such as:
http://192.168.1.100:8080
Or a generated shareable URL, and immediately view the stream in a supported browser.
Features:
* No companion app required on the viewer’s device.
* Local IP/LAN streaming without internet access.
* Self-hosted server support.
* Configurable port and server address.
* QR code generation for quick access.
* Optional password protection and private viewing links.
* Multiple viewers watching the same stream simultaneously.
* Ability to copy, revoke, or regenerate sharing links.
* Optional remote streaming through a secure public endpoint or relay.
The streaming architecture should be server-based or server-assisted, rather than requiring a direct app-to-app connection. For LAN mode, the server can run on the streaming device or another computer on the same network.
- Advanced Orientation and Rotation Controls
I need flexible control over how the stream is displayed, independently of the physical orientation of the streaming device.
Include these modes:
Portrait mode
* Stream stays in portrait orientation.
* The viewer sees the full portrait screen.
Landscape mode
* Stream stays in landscape orientation.
* The viewer sees a proper horizontal layout.
Auto-rotate mode
* The stream automatically follows the device’s orientation.
Fixed landscape output
* Even if the streaming phone is held vertically, the output remains in a landscape video frame.
* Preserve the entire source image without cropping.
* Use letterboxing, pillarboxing, or a suitable layout when necessary.
Fixed portrait output
* Maintain a portrait video frame regardless of device rotation, without unintentionally cropping content.
Manual rotation
* Rotate the output 90° clockwise.
* Rotate the output 90° counterclockwise.
* Reset to the original orientation.
The orientation controls must affect the actual stream output, not merely rotate the viewer’s browser window.
- Dedicated YouTube Live Streaming Section
The application must also have a separate section for streaming directly to YouTube Live.
Features:
* Dedicated YouTube Live dashboard.
* Connect a YouTube account using the official supported authorization method.
* Support YouTube Live’s supported ingest workflow, such as RTMP/RTMPS.
* Stream the device screen directly to a YouTube Live broadcast.
* Select resolution, FPS, bitrate, orientation, and audio settings.
* Support both portrait and landscape broadcasts where permitted by YouTube.
* Show connection status, bitrate, dropped frames, and stream health.
* Start, stop, and monitor a broadcast from the application.
* Keep YouTube streaming separate from private browser/LAN streaming.
* Where technically feasible, support streaming to YouTube and serving browser viewers simultaneously.
Do not expose YouTube stream keys or account credentials to viewers. Use secure credential handling and official APIs wherever applicable.
- LAN-First Architecture
The application must work on a local network.
For example:
- Connect the streaming phone via LAN and viewer’s device to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Start the streaming server.
- Open the displayed local IP or generated LAN URL on the viewer’s device.
- Watch the screen in the browser.
Internet access should not be required for local viewing once the necessary software is installed and running.
Please propose the best architecture for low latency, high quality, and compatibility across devices. WebRTC, an HTTP-based streaming approach, or another suitable technology may be considered depending on the requirements.
- Additional Features
I would also like the developer to propose and implement useful features such as:
* A live preview before starting the stream.
* Start, pause, resume, and stop controls where supported.
* Audio-only mute and volume controls.
* Multiple simultaneous viewers.
* Stream statistics and network diagnostics.
* Automatic quality adjustment.
* Viewer access permissions and session management.
* A customizable stream title and status page.
* Dark mode and a clean, modern interface.
* Optional recording and local saving, subject to device capabilities.
* microphone audio with explicit permission.
* Error handling and automatic reconnection.
* Battery, CPU, GPU, temperature, and network usage monitoring where available.
* Configuration presets for low latency, balanced quality, and maximum quality.
Please identify any other features that would make this a screen-streaming product.
- Platform Requirements
The primary target is iOS, with compatibility and technical limitations clearly documented.
Please specify:
* Supported iOS versions and devices.
* Whether ReplayKit or other public iOS APIs will be used.
* Whether the server runs on the iPhone, a Windows PC, or another device.
* Whether installation requires TestFlight, App Store distribution, or another legitimate method.
* Whether background streaming is supported and under what limitations.
* Whether Android, Windows, and macOS support can be added later.
The implementation must respect operating-system restrictions. No undocumented private APIs or jailbreak-only dependencies unless explicitly proposed as a separate, clearly labeled optional build.
- Deliverables
The successful developer should provide:
* A working prototype and final application.
* Complete source code and build instructions.
* Server software and deployment instructions.
* Browser-based viewer interface.
* YouTube Live integration.
* LAN streaming functionality.
* Documentation covering setup, security, limitations, and troubleshooting.
* Demonstration of the required resolutions and orientation modes.
* A list of known bugs and unsupported features.
- Bounty and Developer Proposal
Budget: Negotiable. Please quote your price or propose milestones.
When responding, include:
- Your relevant experience with iOS screen capture, streaming, WebRTC, video encoding, and server development.
- Your proposed technical architecture.
- What is achievable on iOS using supported APIs.
- How you will deliver browser-based viewing without a viewer-side app.
- How you will support LAN operation without internet access.
- Your proposed timeline and milestone breakdown.
- A demo, GitHub repository, portfolio, or relevant previous work.
- Any limitations, dependencies, or additional hardware required.
I am open to an initial proof of concept followed by full development.
Important: Please do not respond with generic suggestions to install an existing screen-mirroring app. I am looking for someone who can actually develop this system, explain the technical trade-offs, and deliver working source code.
If you can build this, please comment with your proposed solution, estimated budget, and timeline. Serious developers only.
