Personal / Miscellaneous Reopening r/tretinoin

What’s happening? We’re reopening the sub.

Why did you close in the first place? Reddit proposed changes to the API that would make it impossible to moderate large, active subreddits. They continue to ignore the damage they’re doing to their communities and their brand.

TL;DR: We locked the sub down to motivate reddit to rethink their approach, but unfortunately reddit is continuing to destroy the very tools, processes, and people that make it function.

So, now what? So far, reddit hasn't budged on their proposed changes. Even if they did back-pedal now, they’ve burned a ton of bridges by torpedoing the 3rd party apps that used to let moderators get stuff done. Despite the lack of tools and support from reddit leadership, most moderators love supporting their communities and want to do whatever they can to keep them open and running, and we are no exception.

Because this sub is relatively small, we think we can continue to moderate with the remaining functioning tools (at least for now). If you’d like to apply to join the team and help us out, please complete this survey to tell us a bit about yourself.

What will happen long-term? As the sub grows, we will need to reassess - the plan was always to build a more capable bot once the sub got too large to manage manually, but it’s not clear whether that will be an option going forward. We’ll see what reddit does longer term, and decide what to do as things change. If the sub gets too big for us to moderate, and no new tools are available to help, we’d be more likely to step down as moderators and pass the job to someone else rather than permanently shut down the entire community.

Thank you for your understanding and support as we navigate this frustrating situation.

I'm a throw caution to the wind kind of gal. So before my first package even shipped I placed a second order (Oct 2) in hopes of avoiding the Customs debacle happening at the end of the month. Im happy to report they arrived a day apart (yesterday and today).

Have no clue how they'll compare to the ones I bought in Paris or the quality but YOLO. \*\*\* used a privacy card because identify theft/credit is a lot harder to fix than my Skin Barrier LOL

Total was just shy of $250

Personal / Miscellaneous Is azelaic acid good for getting rid of old acne marks or hyperpigmentation?

I've had post-acne scars and stubborn dark spots for a while, and they dont seem to go away on their own. I've seen a lot of recommendations for azelaic acid, but I'm not sure how well it works on newer marks versus older pigmentation. I would really appreciate hearing about actual experiences and advice. If you have used azelaic acid, did it help lighten hyperpigmentation over time? What strength did you use? How long did it take for you to see results, and did you experience any irritation?

Personal / Miscellaneous Has anyone using azelaic acid and tretinoin together for a long time without getting irritated?

I have been using tretinoin for a long time and decided to try adding azelaic acid because people often recommend taking both together. I enjoy this mix; however, when I use it too often, my skin gets dry and irritated.

I'm trying to figure out whether this is something skin gets typically used to over time, or if this combo is inherently irritating for some people. I'd love to hear from anyone who has used azelaic acid and tretinoin together for a long time and how it worked for them.

I mainly want to hear about real experiences so I can decide if it's worth it to maintain doing both or if I should just keep my routine simple.

This is my progress from the last month. I’ve been using tret, along with azelaic acid.

I’ve used tret for a couple years now, and since May have been using azelaic acid. I use a vitamin C serum (Timeless) and also implement hydroquinone (ensuring I discontinue use every couple months).

I am considering getting a BBL treatment done to speed up results as I’m getting discouraged.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Routine Help Is OTC azelaic acid 10% enough, or should I get my prescribed 15%?

i have a really oily face the azelaic acid 15% i was prescribed along with my tretinoin costs $44 but the skin1004 azelaic acid 10% is only $20. is the skin1004 one fine to use instead? i have oily acne prone skin and ive been using adapalene and benzoyl peroxide but i got tretinoin 0.05% prescribed so im switching to that. im also using a gentle cleanser moisturizer and sunscreen. which azelaic acid would be better and how should i introduce it into my routine with tretinoin?

My routine right now

AM: Vanicream gente cleanser, PURITO Panthenol Moisturizer, Spf 50+ sunscreen

PM: Vanicream cleanser, Sandwich method adapalene

Prescribed one
OTC Option 1
OTC Option 2

Personal / Miscellaneous Moisturizer (everything?) advice

Been on tret for years but only once every three nights. I’m honestly not sure why I’ve kept such a mild dose because I still have constant breakouts, I recently started using a salicylic acid (during the day or when I’m not using tret) to try to help my acne. I am also increasing tret to every other night (or truthfully sometimes I’m doing 2 nights in a row, kind of just going on vibes right now tbh). For moisturizer I’ve been using CeraVe face lotion with hyaluronic acid and a mixture of oils I made (joboba, grapeseed, dash of teetree + clary sage). I’ve recently learned that oil is probably not the best move for my skin (as confirmed by aforementioned continuous, constant breakouts) and I know I need to switch some things up. Clearly I have no real idea what I’m doing and I just want better skin. I should go see a derm and I will, but sometimes I trust this community more than the actual professionals (which some of you are anyway). Any advice on specific routines or products? I want to stick with the tret but otherwise I’m open to adding/eliminating things. I already spend way too much money on skin products so budget friendly suggestions are appreciated! I’m 40 with combo, acne-prone skin. Halp me 🫤 TIA!! 🩷

Routine Help Any advice on which hat to buy while using Tretinoin?

• Upvotes

I’ve just started using Tretinoin 0.05%, so I think it’s time to invest in a good sun hat! 😁 Everyone seems to recommend wearing one, so I’ve been looking at Solbari, as I’ve seen so many people recommend the brand!
What do you think of them? Can anyone recommend a hat with a really wide brim that provides good sun protection, but is also breathable so I don’t get too hot and sweaty? I absolutely hate wearing hats for that reason! 😅 Ideally, I’d also love something cute and stylish enough to wear every day.
I’ve looked at a few different styles, but I’d love to hear your recommendations! Since I can only order them online, I can’t try them on beforehand, which makes it a bit harder to choose. 🥴
For example, I’ve been looking at the Ultra Wide Cotton Linen hat. Has anyone tried it? Would you recommend it, or are there any other styles worth considering?
Thanks so much for any advice! ☀️💕

Routine Help Need advicee

Heyy guyss!! 25F here. Wanted some advice about the products I’m using. It’s my third month using both tretinoin (0.025) and azelic acid. I use azelic acid in the morning, after cleaning my face and moisturizer. I use tretinoin at night (sandwich method). I started with twice a week and now I’m using daily.

I wanted to ask if this routine okay or not? I didnt experience any purging redness irritation. I did notice my skin is oilier than before. Can you guys suggest better routine that gived you results or what I’m doing rn is okay.

This is about 2 weeks of daily 0.05% treat. Is this normal? My closed comedomes just won’t go away D:, I plan on starting sa or bp in 2 weeks, hoping that will help. Vanicream wash/no soap just rinse in the morning, double wash with Vanicream at night, tret 0.05 after letting skin dry for 30 min, then lubriderm pm/am. I just got tubal ligation and removed my iud Monday, I’m expecting changes but ugh

Personal / Miscellaneous Did tret help with nasolabial folds?

I’m 25F and I used to work from home. Since getting back in the office I noticed I smile more in general because I have interact with so many people and be polite. Before this for past five years or so I would do my best to refrain from smiling or moving my face too much.

I’ve noticed very slight creasing/lines where my national folds are and I hate it. Also I lost some weight and therefore some volume in my face. I think it’s a combination of both.

I’ve been on tret for about two months and I’m hoping it will combat any lines trying to form there. Have any of you noticed an improvement with continued use?

Routine Help Flaking in one spot after 2+ months of tret. Spoiler

Post image
1 Upvotes

I started 0.025% tret cream in May, slowly tapered up to nightly by August 1st. No issues until almost 2 weeks of nightly usage this flaky redness started on only one side of my mouth and chin. I continued nightly thinking it would go away but it’s now been 2.5 months! Will it ever stop? Is there anything else I can do?

I thought maybe my floss was dragging there but I’ve been careful not to let it do that for weeks and it didn’t get better. I switched to 0.025% gel, not better. Now I’m avoiding tret in the area so very little goes there and it’s still not better.

AM routine
1. Rinse face and leave damp
2. Haruharu Wonder Barrier Essence
3. Illiyoon Ato Cream
4. If going out: Haruharu Wonder Airyfit SPF 50

PM routine
1. Rinse or Isntree Yam Root cleanser and leave damp
2. Vanicream facial moisturizer or Illiyoon Ato Cream
-let dry for 20 mins to an hour-
3. 0.025% tret

Before and After Can tret make hyperpigmentation worse?

Post image
10 Upvotes

It’s been 1month since i started tret, I’ve had no peeling or irritation so i think i went pretty frequent with my 0.025 but I started really slow. I’ve also been using azelaic 20%. I feel like my marks look prominent? Left is before and right is after, 1month gap between pics

AM routine:
Azelaic acid 20% cream
Sunscreen if I’m stepping outside(I mosty stay home and my room barley lets sunlight in)

PM routine:
Cetaphila gentle foaming cleanser
Tret 0.025%(2days on 1day off)
Cerave moisturizing cream
I sometimes put azelaic cream 20% on top like 1/2 hours later

My order arrived today and I'm so HAPPY. I work on board a vessel, and every time we have a stopover in Fujairah, UAE, I ALWAYS make sure to order enough Acretin 0.05% to last me for the whole contract.

Gotta keep the skin routine even in the middle of the sea, and ofcourse SUNSCREEN always.

Routine Help How do you properly use Tretinoin?

I (40F) have had a Tretinoin Cream, USP (0.05%) Rx for years for acne. It seems from reading in here that it can be its own thing… how do I use it in a way that’s not just spot-treatment?

Routine Help What strengths for my goals should I buy?

Hi everyone,

Last summer I bought two tubes of tret in Turkey, 0.025% and 0.05%. I was already using retinal 0.1% daily at this point without issues, but felt my skin could still improve.

My main concerns with my skin is acne. I’ve never had a lot of visible whiteheads, but mostly texture, closed comedones and dull skin. My skin wasn’t looking bad but not great either. I’m also noticing some fine lines appearing on my forehead. I’m 27 so that was to be expected, but anti-aging would be nice as well.

I started the lowest strength two weeks ago and everything is going fine up until now. I have some mild dryness which I can almost completely get rid of with extra moisturizing products. I have some mild purging but nothing crazy, mostly just hard little seeds without much redness and some blackheads on my nose. I do have a feeling I have some more milia, but that could also be closed comedones.

I’ve started with using it every other day after toner and serum, and I want to move up to 5x a week.

I’m going to Turkey again next month and I want to stock up again since I’m there anyway. Because I’ve not been using tret for long, I don’t know what strength would be good for me. I’m thinking of getting 4 tubes. It depends a bit on if it counts as a liquid or not. The package says grams but I’ve read online that it still counts as a liquid.
