announcements Racist urban legends.
La-a and all -a names are banned. They are a myth an urban legend. Never happened. Ladasha is a real name. But not la-a.
Its always "my mom, sister, best friend, aunt was a teacher/nurse and they had someone named la-a. The dash not be silent"
Anyway, its a racist urban legend and it is a bannable offense.
Same with Shithead. Pronounced shi theed. You will catch a ban if posting that.
Even if its a joke post like "Give me some tragedeigh names for blah blah or baby shower" ban.
Tired of it.
Any dms or modmails trying to argue this will be met with a ban.

Miscellaneous Objects Why do people do this to children?
I’m an elementary teacher. Today I was working with someone else at a different school while she called out the students in her class. At the end of the period, I had to stop and ask her if I’d heard the name correctly. That’s when she showed me the spelling. The child’s name was Picsyl (Pixel).

in the wild Today I met Noway, but…
it’s pronounced EXACTLY like Noah.
Yes, Noway is a real, albeit rare name. But the pronunciation is nothing like Noah. Not in American English (I am in the U.S.), and not in the language that the name originates from.

in the wild Lynneighyaur
Basically, the other day, a friend of mine, apparently he was already thinking about the future names of his kids, he asked me what I thought, he then told me "Linnea", I was like "cool" and then he showed me how he'd spell it "Lynneighyaur", I was baffled

general discussion Can you guess how my name is spelled?
I have what some would call a tragedeigh-ed version of the name Emily. I wanna see if anyone can guess how it’s spelled. I’ll give one hint here and maybe more in the comments. Hint: I go by the nn Emma
Also I’d love just to hear any wacky spellings of Emily you’ve seen before!
UPDATE w/ the answer: I’m kind of surprised only a couple of people got it, but most of y’all were really close. It’s Emmalie. One comment was weirdly spot on about it being a better name combo for Bella and Edward to pick than Renesmee (or however you spell that). My dad wanted me to be “Emily” and my mom wanted “Emma”, so this was their compromise, thank god they didn’t go with “Emmaly” 🤢. My mom sort of won in the end since I was only ever called Emma growing up, and now the only people who call me by my actual name are my partner and their parents. Thanks for playing everyone!

in the wild encountered a boy tragedeigh the other day at work
I work at burger king and when i’m in drive thru and people pay with card I like to look at their name to see what’s on there simply out of curiosity. The other day I came across a “Billeigh”. Never thought i’d encounter a tragedeigh irl let alone a boy one. To top it all off he looked like older and british version of young sheldon 😭😭😭

fandom Found on Instagram
My feed showed me Knickson Fyve. Born this summer. After the NY Knicks playoff run. Has his own Instagram profile. Being a NYer I totally get it. Go, Knick! (Will kids one day try to say, "Hi, Kuh-nick?").

in the wild Doing School work and came across one (maybe two?) tragedeighs.
My son and I were doing school work, and it ALWAYS has some funky names. Donye is possibly a name from another culture, but Jayceon is pure tragedeigh. Having done a google search, it says it is, "a modern American invention that combines the classic name Jason (or Jace) with a trendy "ceon" suffix.

is it a tragedeigh? Horsleigh
A friend asked if it's too "cute" or overly "cutesey." It makes me think of a horse girl. To be fair, the family name is Horsley in the maternal ancestry. I agreed that's more feminine as "Horsleigh" but I can't stop thinking it feels like a tragedeigh every time I read it.
Edit: I agree with comments saying it should be a middle name instead. Respectfully, I am against it. I think the horse association is too much. Adults and kids are too mean. Whores-slay, Whores-lay, Horse-neigh, etc. Horsleigh also isn't a name you can really use as a serious adult. (Example: A commenter pointed out Ropelynn on TikTok.)
