Announcement Devblog #53: The Birds and the Bees Update
THRIVE HAS NEVER BEEN SPICIER! Sexual reproduction, mobility organelles, membrane graphics updates, multicellular auto-evo, and more! Read more in the linked post.
Suggestion Confusing way to show data
Nitrogen and carbon dioxide on this atmospheric composition graph mirror each other and confuse me on what it actually is visually. Perhaps a filled-in graph, with vertically largest to smallest, and maybe an extra piece of info under time info on the graph showing atmospheric mass (and mass for each gas on each dot)
Image on next slide for visualization of a patch atmospheric composition I made a little while ago (without mention of atmospheric mass since I do not have that information in the game)

Tips for thrive???
I need some tips because my species always goes extinct or its population drops drastically. Can anyone help me?

"How to increase my oxygen endurance?"
Whenever I play Thrive, a message pops up about oxygen resistance, and I don't know how to fix it. Can anyone help me?

Discussion So how many features are left to add before the macroscopic stage ?
Because i read on some development forum that the end for the multicellular stage is "rapidly ending "

Discussion How would the macroscopic editor work ?
Because since developpment of the multicellular stage should be completed by the end of the year , i figured discusion of the later stages should be pretty relevant since the macroscopic editor Will be used throughout most of the future game

Discussion Does anyone feel like the trailer feels underwhelming?
Because a few bacteria zooming out to a droplet of water doesn't show the amount of ambition this project has

Advice on what order to build
I’ve been trying to do multicellular for a while but something that I’ve been having trouble dealing with is how to specialise my multicellular creature. I’ve gotten how to handle individual cells down now and i have been able to design a multicellular lifeforms that works when it’s completed but its the whole “growing into being complete” part im having trouble with.
I’ll gladly take any advice on how to handle the order i should grow my multicellular organism

I can’t eat
I’ve gotten to the multicellular stage lately and I’ve been struggling. I float over clouds of glucose and iron but it doesn’t absorb at all, I’ve died from lack of ATP while in a cloud full of glucose. Does anyone know what I can change to fix this?
Edit: I figured it out! I photosynthesize so I need to be more sedentary. The more I move, the more glucose I use. I hold still during the day but o store up glucose to survive the night. It’s not as exciting as moving around but it works and I’ve been able to survive a few more generations! I should be able to advance to the macroscopic stage soon

a genuinely overpowered prokaryote predator build

this predator genuinely is not killable if paired with double membraine or even the normal thin membraine, if a cell shoots a toxin at you you can deflect it, if a predator attacks you you can block with the pillus and attack while deflecting with a speed of 32, only thing that can take this predator out is environmental change, because it relies heavily on iron and glucose

i need help with multicellular mode
when i multicellular like 12 cells i have a mouth cell which was my normal cell a defence cell with 2 pointy things and a slime shooter i have i digestion cell with more lysozomes and vacuoles and movement cells with 4 cilia and 3 flaggelum and randomly when i grow glucose stops generating ATP and before i can react im way too far from the nearest cloud of iron and i die plz i need help with stopping that from happening

Bug Report How exactly is Mass Budding supposed to work?
I've had some issues with mass budding as a reproductive system. On one life with it, my life form was invincible & I could pass through other cells with no interaction. On another life, I started from the singular cell & only grew 4 out of my 7 selected cells before reproduction began.
What exactly is supposed to happen with mass budding? I was under the impression that mass budding would give me 2-4 extra cells at the start, but it doesn't seem to do that? At least, with the save file I have selected.

Multicellular Feedback
Problem 1
The controls are terrible. I don't think it's possible to make the rigid body work.
Best QoL Idea:
Have an "anchor" cell the player controls like the single cell stage.
The rest of the cells in the colony plot a vector to arrive with the desired offset every n frames.
When they collide with an object, it should behave like a rope... they create friction slowing the anchor down while they pathfind
Alternate Idea:
I don't know how you would make the player controls feel good this way... but setting a gravity around the anchor should cause the colony to collapse on the player dynamically.
Easiest Solution:
The "come to me" command code can probably be modified slightly and power the non-anchor cells.
Problem 2
Evolution feels a bit off. Trying to add cells, modify specialized cells, and develop new specialized cells all from one currency feels clunky.
Idea 2–1:
Let the player pay a cost penalty of 0.5n–1 for the number of cells they upgrade each cycle, but each cell type has its own mutation currency.
Note about Idea 2–1:
I don't have another idea, but I my suggestion is better than the current pricing system. Please fix Problem 2 with something better than my idea 🤷♀️
Note about Janky Controls
The early multicellular stage being janky may be realistic. That was charming.
The proper multicellular stage should feel nearly as fun to move as the single celled part of the game.
