Question about Ringu 1998.

What do you think would have happened if Hideo Nakata had kept Sadako's humanity as he did in the kanzenban edition? Showing her face and portraying her as a deeply tragic child?

– Because the murder of Sadako in the 1998 film is so strange that we don't even see her face, and it's shot from a completely "dehumanized," almost two-dimensional angle.

– What if the film had kept Sadako's face visible, or even if it wasn't explicitly stated, but included something that suggested she was intersex as well?

How do you think later films, remakes, etc., and characters inspired by it would change?

Anyone else see parallels between Koji Suzuki’s Ring trilogy and AI?

I’ve been thinking about Koji Suzuki’s Ring trilogy, especially Loop, and how it relates to the current AI trajectory.

With advancements in AI, simulations and world models, some of the ideas in the books seem increasingly relevant. It’s honestly a bit unsettling how plausible some of it feels now.

Has anyone else read the trilogy and made this connection?

I made this image to show all the main characters from all the Ring movies, including the remakes. This started in 1995 and went up to 2022, so I want to ask you which main character is the best, who had the best acting and character development, and who performs best in each adaptation. And above all, who is your favorite

Sadako is not just a victim.

Sadako has become a waifu or Sadako-san, but in the books and even the movies, Sadako is a character who, besides being a tragic victim, is extremely vengeful, evil, and selfish.

In the Ring Birthday book, in one part of the book, she literally kills the entire theater audience with her powers, if I'm not mistaken, that's what happens As a child, she kills one of the reporters, and if I'm not mistaken —I could be wrong—she had a younger brother in the books, and she tortured him sometimes when he was a baby.

And after becoming a vengeful spirit, the things she does to other women and families are of an extremely cruel and relentless level of revenge; yes, she is a victim In the books she is extremely human, tragic, a victim even, but in those same books she has this extreme duality and she is human, she makes mistakes.

Siempre me ha intrigado quién era esta mujer y si la escena tenía un significado más profundo, y también me gustaría preguntarles qué sentimientos les provocó esa escena.

the few loop adaptations

I've always found it curious that all the novels in The Ring saga have had their own adaptations in film, visual novels, manga, etc., but the only novel that hasn't been adapted is Loop. The Ring was adapted into films like Ring Kanzenban, Ringu, The Ring Virus, and The Ring; Birthday was adapted as Ringu 0; Spiral as Rasen; S and Tide as Sadako 3D and Sadako 2019; while Loop was never adapted into a film or any other format. The only adaptation could be The Ring Terror Realm game (2000). It's understandable that it was never adapted into a film due to budget reasons, but it could have been adapted into a manga. What do you think?

We all agree that Sadako Yamamura's Ring Kanzenban adaptation is the most complex and well-written of all adaptations (except for the books)?

Film continuity

I just want to make sure I’m getting the continuity right of the Japanese films

Ring > Ring 2 > Sadako (2019)

Ring > Rasen > Sadako 3D > Sadako 3D 2

Ring0 obviously serving as a prequel to Ring regardless

Sadako DX completely unrelated to the other film timelines?

And here SAMARA is born.

Seven days alive in that dark and cold water looks gruesome and the fact she collapses and falls down still alive it probably caused some brain damage 'cause of her breathing asphyxiation.

POV : just was watching for the 2° time this year and did decide to record.

Tomoko death

I always wondered why, in the first scene of Ringu where Tomoko is murdered in the kitchen/living room, her body is found by her mother in the closet. It's something I never understood.

A question about spirals

I know that Sadako Yamamura is intersex, but what happens to the clone (or was her) after being reborn through Mai Takano? What is the biology of this reborn Sadako Yamamura like?

doubts about the movies

And I made this post to answer some questions that arose Regarding the Ring movies, the first is that in Ring: 0 Birthday, we learn about the other Sadako, who emerged after Sadako split. The human Sadako is the counterpart of her father, while the evil Sadako is seemingly closer to her true father. As the film progresses, events occur, such as some cast members having the same dream, and most importantly, the death of the lead actress. All of this happens after Sadako's arrival, leading to suspicion of her, although we all know the other Sadako is responsible. This is evident because we see her moving across the stage until she reaches the actress. My question is how she managed to manifest and do all of that if she was supposedly imprisoned by Dr. Ikuma, and therefore how she escaped in the climax of the film. I never understood if this entity is physical or intangible. The second question concerns Sadako 3D, where the plot revolves around a cursed video of the "suicide" of an internet artist live on air. His name is Khashiwada, and in the video we see him die by hanging at Sadako's hands, but in the second movie it turns out he's alive and was arrested. I mean, I never understood if he was really dead.

(JUST A THOUGHT) Considering the amount of celebrity deaths and just the alarming number of them in these few days, I am now questioning myself.

I'm wondering if this tape virus is now real and is killing off all these people. Man it's getting so weird to the point where I'm blaming fiction. But who knows? We humans still don't know much about her powers after our soul has left this body.

A question I always had about Ringu/The Ring

Maybe I'm over thinking it. But I just watched both Ringu and The Ring (American) and both have the same plot point. The main female protagonist (Reiko/Rachel) watched the tape and was cursed. She showed the original to her ex husband, which should have cursed him. AFTER that, she made a copy and had him study it--this is what broke the curse for her. But...isn't he already cursed from watching it the first time?

Does it break her curse showing it to an already cursed person?? If anything, she would have to make a copy and show it to someone for the first time.

Loop

In the Ring universe, there are loops, crazy viruses, psychic powers, and sci-fi, but is it all scientific? Or is it human delusion and scientific desperation to try to explain a supernatural force of nature? An unstoppable curse? Does the idea that she contracted smallpox mean this "virus" exists?

And in the real world, what is the world of scientists like? When he leaves his simulation/loop, he wonders if even the "Real" world is also an illusion, with scientists being the Gods?

But could the spiritual and the scientific not simply be two sides of the same coin, separated by the illusion of duality?

Psychology and health

Realistically, I've always wondered if someone were to go through what Sadako did—being trapped in a sealed well for 30 years—how long it would take them to die, and if for some reason they managed to survive those years, what physical and psychological aftereffects would that person suffer? I doubt being in a well for 30 years is physically and psychologically healthy, because imagine being trapped in a confined space alone, without food, and unable to get out.

What if sadako comes out of a transparent screen?

I hope that debating abusing physics of the movie is fine here, i mean rules don’t forbid it, but probably because nobody thought it may be relevant

Basically, Sadako comes out of screens, mostly TVs,

And it is entirely possible to make a transparent screen, you can see through it just fine (its real, look it up), so if i put a camera on the other side of the screen (the side she doesn’t come out of), how will that look like when she comes out of the screen from the other side?

What will camera record? It will see her because screen is transparent

Like if half of her body is out but other not yet, will it show her insides or, what will it show?
I think nobody ever thought of that because most don’t know transparent screens are a thing now, and those who know probably never applied it to this movie series

the best sadako

I wanted to do this to ask you which is the best design of Sadako (although technically she looks the same in all her adaptations) but I mean more like which one gives you that aura or feeling of fear, or also which one is the least scary or feels strange (this includes her movies, manga, video games, etc.)

My Take: Sadako Yamamura is a (very) unhealthy ENFP and no that doesn't mean a sad Cinnamon Roll.

Takayama Ryuji based on the 98' movie

Just a quick sketch I found hidden in my tablet. Based on the 98' Ringu movie. Hiroyuki Sanada is my favourite rendition of Ryuji in films visually.
