Question How to find who owns a domain?

So i was looking through my old notes from back in college and found a name for an app project i abandoned like 3 years ago. turns out someone actually registered the exact name last year. its just a blank page right now with no website on it.. and im really interested now how to find who owns a domain so i can send them a message and see if they would be down to sell it for cheap

I checked standard whois lookups on godaddy and icann but literally every piece of contact info is redacted because of gdpr privacy protection stuff. it just lists a random proxy email address. i know there are paid services that track historical registration records, but i really dont wanna pay money just for a dead end attempt. so i was thinking maybe someone here knows how to find who owns a domain thats hidden behind whois privacy, maybe you have some tricks?

Do people actually reply to those proxy privacy emails if you send one? or is there a better way like checking old archive.org snapshots to find who owned it before the privacy guard got added? if anyone knows how to find who owns a domain without spending money on broker tools lemme know

Question Leaving social media and decided to go with the nuclear option. Wanting to share a little bit of my process and needing some assistance

tl;dr: Needing some advice on changing facebook privacy settings for posts in bulk

So, I have been heavily researching data collection and surveillance. In this process, I have learned about how often and extensive social media profiles are scraped, allowing data collection companies to always have the most up to date profile of you. Really doesn't matter what privacy settings you've enabled tbh.

Because of this, I decided that simply deleting your account is not enough. Especially since the deletion is never immediate; seems like every platform keeps your account on their servers for at least a month before deletion. In this time, it is not known what is happening with that data but it can be safely assumed that they are getting a final scrape out of it. So I have been deleting all posted content before the full account deletion. This includes: unsending/deleting all messages, unliking/reacting to all posts... essentially undoing as much as possible.

Now, I understand there may not be a lot of research or solid information into what I am doing. There is a reality where this is pointless.. And I don't care tbh. So this isn't an invite to debate on whether or not this process has any value. I am already very deep into the trenches and the only way out is forward. Plus, I generally recommend a full social media account audit. Some of us have accounts that are 2 decades old.

I intend to make a full detailed review of this process but here is a rundown:

-Began with downloading both json and html copies of my accounts

-Used third party tools (not sure if I can mention them here) to download various other content I wanted saved

-Used other third party tools to bulk remove content; unsending messages, unliking posts, redacting/removing posts

I am now working on facebook, and it has proven to be most difficult... well I just recently got hit by an Instagram account restriction lol So Meta in general is hard to work with. Because this particular account is almost 20 years old, removing content has been.. laggy at best. My plan was to bulk change the audience visibility for all posts to "only me". This would allow me to continue use of the account until deletion day while ensuring nobody(?) could see any of my past content while I was in the process of deleting/backing it up with a specific third party tool.

The issue is the native architecture designed to help you remove content is obviously not very efficient. You can actually very quickly and easily limit all past posts to "friends only" by clicking a button... but that is all you can do. If you want to limit them to "only me"; you must go into activity log and scroll until the page is fully loaded, then select all. But this is easier said than done. For older accounts, this will not work. Facebook either cannot load all of it or cannot actually select all of it. So you have to go year by year... and it is not any better.

You select a year, scroll until full page has loaded, select all, and then pick your setting. But even this bugs facebook out. Sometimes it wont load the whole year at all, so you have to go month by month. And every time you sweep a full year, it really only gets to may before it stops. So you still have to go and get the rest of the months individually. And whether you've selected a year, a month, or just more than 10 posts; the process seemingly takes facebook 12-24 hours to complete.

Anyone else have experience with this? Is there any tactic or tool that would make this easier? Or is the final boss always going to be the platform itself?

Question Is there any way to bulk delete ALL Instagram DMs for both parties?

Question Secure document sharing to stay presentable

Need some quick advice. I have to share documents and to make it presentable and secure, I am unable to just use Google like I always do?

what is a reliable safe and most importantly presentable for a high profile client?

I prefer free stuff though or at least a trial without leaving free tier watermark stamps over my documents

Is Dropbox a safe option? Has anyone actually used Dropbox or even Google drive for professional work presentation, or file sharing involving actual paid work?

Question CyberGhost Black Friday deals 2026 what to do?

i've been having some issues with my current vpn lately, especially when trying to watch shows on streaming services while abroad. sometimes it works fine, other times i spend more time switching servers than actually watching anything lol. so i started looking into alternatives and came across cyberghost black friday deals 2026 to see if switching would be worth it

right now my options are basically:

  • nordvpn- used it before and liked it, but its more than i want to spend
  • proton vpn - seems solid but im not a huge fan of the app/UI
  • cyberghost - havent tried it yet, but the price is making me consider it

i mostly use a vpn for streaming and traveling, so i dont need anything too complicated. cyberghost seems like it could be enough for what i need if a good black friday offer comes up.

has anyone found a decent cyberghost black friday deal yet? Its cheap but wondering if i could save even more money

Question Help taking down Instagram accounts/posts

Hi! I was wondering if anybody could help me. When I was underage I had an Instagram account where I stupidly posted lots of photos of myself. The photos aren’t malicious but are quite embarrassing and I’d like to have them removed. When people look up my instagram account all these other accounts with my name come up of “fan pages” for myself. It’s humiliating. Is there anyone I can hire or legal action I can take to get these removed? I’ve tried endlessly to report these accounts but it never works. Not sure if this is the place to post something like this but I don’t know where else to. Thanks!

Question Is it actually possible for someone to find your identity through a selfie’s

Asking because I genuinely don’t know how much of this is technically possible, and I’d rather hear from people who understand this stuff.

A while ago, I met someone on Reddit. We started talking, got along pretty well, and eventually became online friends. Everything was normal at first, but after some time, they started acting weird in ways that made me uncomfortable. Nothing I want to get too specific about, but I eventually decided to distance myself and slowly cut off contact.

The thing is, we never talked outside Reddit. I never gave them my other social media accounts, phone number, full name, or anything that I can remember that would directly identify me.

At some point, I had shared a selfie with them through Reddit. Now, after things went sour, they brought up that photo and said they could find me.

That honestly freaked me out a little and I know people talk about metadata in photos, EXIF data, location information, and all that stuff. But I'm confused about what information is actually accessible when you send someone a picture through Reddit.

Can someone really get your location or identity from a selfie?

I'm trying to figure out whether this person is bluffing to scare me or whether there's a legitimate privacy risk I should be concerned about.

To be clear, I'm not saying they have actually found me or that they know where I live. They just claimed they could find me, and given how things ended, I don't know whether to take that seriously.

I'm also wondering whether there are any privacy steps I should take now, considering the photo has already been shared...

Question How to get free cable? is it possible?

I opened my email this morning and saw my internet and tv bill randomly went up AGAIN, so naturally i spent my entire lunch break trying to understand how to get free cable like a desperate person

Im not even asking for much, i literally just use the tv for background noise while i cook dinner and to watch local news or football on weekends. paying over a hundred bucks a month just to watch local channels and commercials feels like taking my money and setting it on fire in the living room lol

My uncle told me to buy a $15 leaf antenna off amazon, put it on my window, and boom free hd channels forever. but then i started overthinking and searching how to get free cable with antennas, and now im seeing all these reddit posts talking about signal gain, transmitters 40 miles away, and coaxial splitters... bro i just wanna turn on my tv, not get a degree in electrical engineering

Also half my friends tell me to just download pluto tv or tubi, but every time i open those apps i end up watching 4 hours of gordon ramsay yelling at people instead of actual live tv lol

So please explain to me like im dumb: how to get free cable local channels without dealing with sketchy illegal streams that freeze every 5 sec? does a cheap antenna actually work??

The irony of Google not being able to deal with an app pretending to be itself is actual madness. Tells a horrible story of what the app store has become. Free for all, and yet they hate people bringing up F-Droid as an alternative app library claiming the Play Store is the sterile one lol

Just wanted to share some news I heard from some articles not long ago

Question HOw do I remove my personal information from Googles ai search?

I recently had this idea to look up my name on google and I was horrified by what came up. It showed clubs that im associated with simply by likes on facebook (i think?) my full name, and the country and even city I live in. I'm deeply uncomfortable with that information that I have never ever put out there being so easily accessable.

Is there any way I can remove it??

thanks

Question Epson ET-2820 printer as photocopier for private documents?

Hi, I am new here. I need to make copies of some documents and I want to be sure there is no chance thay can go online. I have an Epson ET-2820 printer that works also as a photocopier. If I copy my papers with this printer without connecting it to the PC and with the wifi option turned off, can I be sure that everything stay local and disappear once the printer is turned off? I think it could be safe but I am not an expert. Anyone more knowledgeable can give me an opinion/advice?

Thanks

Discussion Are my phone apps all sharing data with each other?

I am beginning to become interested in privacy now with flock cameras and increased surveillance. A few days I read an article about how your phone is a massive breach of personal privacy. A few minutes ago I ordered food from Wendy’s on DoorDash. Now as I browse on Reddit the Wendy’s subreddit pops into my recommendations. I have never looked up or read anything on that Subreddit ever before. How bad is the current state of phone surveillance? Maybe I should delete all apps other than apple products.

Question How to remove personal information from internet for free?

Last night i was really bored and decided to search my full name and city out of random curiosity and honestly i got freaked out. my home address, cell phone number, and even my relatives names showed up right there on the first page of google on random people finder sites like whitepages n spokeo. i couldnt sleep last night thinking is there any way how to remove personal information from internet for free or if i cannot do anything

I just really dont want to be paying those $100/year subscriptions like incogni or delete me. i literally dont have extra cash for monthly services right now

I spent a couple hours today scrooling privacy subreddits n tech forums to see what manual diy options actually work. this is what i found:

method how it works pros and cons
google opt out form search results about you on google or submit a removal request link fast for google results, but doesnt remove it from the actual source site
manual broker opt outs go directly to whitepages, spokeo, fastpeoplesearch opt out pages completely free and permanent, but takes forever to do one by one
state privacy laws  email their privacy team referencing your legal right to delete data legally forces them to comply, but some sites take 30 days to answer

But honestly i just think that doing all these opt out forms one by one is confusing and takes a loooot of time am i right? half the sites hide their removal page in tiny text at the bottom of the footer or demand you confirm via email

So i was really hoping that there are people who managed to clean up their digital footprint manually and could tell me how to remove personal information from internet for free in the fastest way possible? i would really really appreciate it
