Atmosphere at the Manchester show
Seen a lot of MTG shows at this point but last night in Manchester was one of the best crowds by far. Getting there early and being down the front was a good call - nice to be around other people equally jazzed for the deep cuts.
Shout out to the person with a pink buzz cut for being a great mosh partner

This is a very silly/pointless question, but do any fans legitimately refer to Coroner's Gambit as Slavonic Dances?
Not in a joking way, like is that your go to way of referring to the album? Has John ever expanded on that?
P.S. is there a definitive "go-to" website or source on all things Goats? I know there is Fandom which i love to see quotes by John on songs, but is there anything better?

Songs for having already overcome difficulties
Hello everyone,
I am currently in the middle of a long and arduous journey that has taken over my life for an entire year. I know many tMG songs focus on the subject of hope and working to overcome obstacles but I can’t seem to find any that celebrate obstacles that have already been overcome.
“I have made it through this year”, so to speak.
Do you folks have any song suggestions that would fit this description?
Themes of revenge, like in Getting into Knives, could also work, but I am first and foremost looking for a retrospective.
Thanks!

Playlist for the 2026 Utrecht show
For anybody vaguely interested, I made a playlist from the set-list of the 2026 Utrecht show. Only 'Song for my stepfather' is missing. But probably for the best, that song hit me like a freight train (having a 5yo myself...).

Looking for fellow tapers to trade obscure tapes/songs with
Hello, I'm looking to reach out to any fellow tapers who frequent the sub, and I'd love to trade tapes and songs that aren't on the archive back and forth. I'm a taper myself with a number of my own recordings that aren't on the archive (primarily European tour dates from the 90s) and I'd love to trade tapes like I used to.
Additionally, I'm also looking to fill out my song catalog which is almost there, just missing a couple of recordings, namely "Tomb of the Assassin", "Cars Song in C", "Cigarettes", "He Will Arise", and "The Video with Lita Ford", though if you know of something else that I may not possess I'd love to hear about it.
What follows is a (mostly) comprehensive list of the individual songs recordings I have that aren't on the archive, so if you are missing something seen below and have one of the aforementioned songs, or other items of interest, please send me a direct message here on Reddit. Thanks!
Here's my list of songs I can trade in exchange for other recordings. To my knowledge they're all only in private circulation, though I haven't been super active among the band's recent tapes and performances, so some may not be if he's played them in the past couple of years and been taped.
Pure Change
Pure Vampire
Garbage Eaters
Avoiding Paris
Prominent Metaphysicians of South Pomona
New London
Fragments
Bright White Sun
Mountain Goats Improv Songs (I have 3 different improvised songs by the band)
Untitled (At All Costs)
Going to California (Extra Glenns)
For the Krishnacore Bands
Mid Morning Florida
Pure Love
Angel
Nothing Song
John 4:35
Twenty Five (Extra Glenns)
What Have You Done to the Magician?
All of You Must Die
700 Unspeakable Names (long version)
Green Olives (Nothing for Juice version)
Puppets (The Congress)
Moth and Worm
Going to Buffalo
Midland Pipe Theme Song
Diskothi-Q Theme Song
I'm Just a Pig
You Gotta Have a Mouse in Your Life
I Whip My Head Back and Forth
I Will Escape This Loathsome Dungeon
Alpha Chum Gatherer
tcot same program both sides
Additionally, I have a lot of covers from tapes that aren't archived. I won't go to the trouble of listing them all out, but some examples off the top of my head are:
Pretty in Pink (The Psychedelic Furs cover)
Heart and Soul (Joy Division cover)
Shaping the Southern Sky (Kylesa cover)
Anchorless (Propagandhi cover)
With a Little Help from My Friends (The Beatles cover)
Science Fiction Double Feature (Rocky Horror Picture Show cover)
It's Raining Men (The Weather Girls cover)
Here I Am, Lord (Dan Schutte cover)
And many more, like I mentioned. I also have a wide number of non-archived tapes for anyone interested, though even more so can't name all of them, but as I mentioned, they're primarily European tapes - lots of Germany and Sweden, and I also have a number of radio sessions that aren't on the archive. I also possess a couple of demo versions of songs if anybody is interested in that; a couple of them have some very different lyrics to their normal version so if that interests you feel free to ask!
I'm interested in trading for any of the songs I mentioned, any covers or other songs I didn't that aren't circulated, as well as any tapes in general that aren't online, so if you think you have anything I might be interested in, please do message me and I'd love to trade tapes! Thank y'all!!!

What’s your favorite non-TMG music right now?
Hey everyone - after getting turned on to Pigeon Pit by someone here, I want to hear what else y’all are listening to right now besides TMG. Doesn’t even have to “go” with TMG. I’ll start:
Cheekface
Petey USA
Emperor X
Operation Mincemeat: Broadway Cast Recording
EDIT: Thanks everyone! Now I get to spend the day checking out a bunch of new music. You guys are great.

Y'all, it's wild that...
In addition to the unreasonably prolific output of The Mountain Goats, this guy pulled a Garth Brooks/Chris Gaines and recorded all those System of a Down records.

I went to the Utrecht show last night! It was so good. This was my first time seeing John live. The energy on stage was electric, the band played amazingly and john really gave his all.

Any fellow covid-conscious/chronically ill folks going to the Fillmore?
Hey all,
Local Bay-Arean here but figured I see if there was enough demand/want for masks at the Fillmore residency show. I like to use paint markers to decorate masks I wear to concerts and I'd love to bring some to the residency shows if people are interested!
Lemme know in the comments or DM if you don't feel comfortable commenting.

Mountain Goats referenced in John Green’s new book Hollywood Ending!
I know John Green is a huge fan, but so cool to see it in writing!
