Other If book 6 does happen, when in the timeline do you think it'll take place?

I think it'll be set between Ballad and Sunrise. Still lots of unanswered questions from Ballad.

I hope the next book is around mags she's literally perfect for the 25th quarter quail

Honestly, she's the perfect character to pick. She won the 11th Hunger Games, which would put her around the time of the Quarter Quell in at least her 20s, and she had been mentoring for around 13 years at that point. And honestly, if Suzanne Collins goes with her, we will be able to see Finnick's entire story through her eyes because she would have mentored him. She's just the perfect candidate for the last prequel, given that she lived and saw so much. Plus, we've never had a book about one of the victors mentoring the Games—the only time we've seen a mentor was Snow, and we know he's just evil, so we never really got to see it through a victor's eyes.

Plus I'm almost 100% sure it's going to be about 25th quarter quail because it is the only era you have everyone still alive because this would be the Dr. Volumnia Gaul begin the coverage I believe I read somewhere that she was the first to do the live coverage and this would be the years snow is either a new president or a game maker and we can get a definitive answer for when he took power at what age this would also be when Plutarch was born perhaps we will get to see his father.

What are some movie and book differences that kill you just a little bit?

Speaking strictly of the trilogy. Mine are: 1) Haymitch being blonde (being from the Seam means something people), and 2) the line "I would've saved myself a lot of suffering if I had given the bread to the pig" by Peeta in Mockingjay (BOOK PETA WOULD'VE NEVER)

sotr: the haydove hate doesn't make sense

I get being indifferent to them, not shipping them, that's all understandable we don't have to like every ship. What makes zero sense to me is the absolute hate some people seem to have towards haydove.

The reasons never make sense either. I've seen people say they're a shallow ship. Okay, you're allowed to think that but it's still not reason enough for the hate. Others say the ship is a poor writing choice because maysilee or effie would've made more sense. How so? Why would suzanne repeat her original plot by making two tributes go into the games and fall in love? And suzanne has created so many siblings coded relationships in the books, including katniss and finnick so why can't she do the same for haymitch without being accused of being a bad writer?

And effie and haymitch are not book canon. Maybe some people have forgotten the books or haven't read them, but suzanne doesn't have the follow the added plot points from the movies when she writes her books. She has every right to stick to her original story. Haymitch was always going to have a love interest from 12. It doesn't make sense for him to have one from the capitol unless that person was a rebel (and effie is not a rebel).

Edit: people are talking about not caring about her when I begin the post by saying indifference towards her/haydove doesn't matter, it's the actively hating her that I find weird and baseless. Also there are other characters through the books that we don't know much about and they still don't get the hate Lenore dove gets. I mean we don't know all that much about annie cresta and odesta is such a fan favourite.

Fun fact: 90s era Star Trek, The Expanse, and the Hunger Games all plausibly take place around the same time

90s era Star Trek runs between 2364 and 2377, the Expanse takes place between 2350 and 2360, and the Hunger Games take place roughly 300 years in the future (best plausible guess I've seen). So that raises a very interesting question: if the major characters of these three franchises were to find themselves in each other's universes, who do you think they'd be and why?

planning on watching sunrise on the reaping with a brother who didn't watch hunger games

hi everyone! I was thinking about making an experiment to see how watching a series chronologically (prequels first and main movies after them) would affect your experience and how different it would be from my experience, since I, just like everyone, watched main movies before watching prequels. there will be so many characters that we know from main movies so it sounds fun to compare our opinions about them.

do you think it's a good idea or maybe it would be hard for him to understand with no knowledge from main movies?

I was also thinking about making him watch the ballad of songbirds & snakes first and only then sunrise on the reaping, but I'm not sure. maybe the ballad is not a good starting point and sunrise on the reaping would be a better place to start?

Other Haymitch and Palladium

Anyone now find it eerie how dogged the District 1 tributes in the 74th and 75th Games were in pursuing Katniss and Peeta?

  • Glimmer tried to literally shoot Kantiss out of a tree with a bow she couldn't use.
  • Marvel netted and speared Katniss's ally in an attempt to lure her into a fight.
  • Gloss raced Katniss neck and neck for the Cornucopia in the Quarter Quell arena (likely in an attempt to cut her off, get his hands on a weapon first, and take her out), only to trip and fall on his ass.
  • Cashmere pulls a storm the beaches at Normandy move and charges right in to shank Katniss only to get quite literally axed right betwixt her cleavage.

My theory?: For the past 25 years, Palladium Barker, Victor of the 46th Hunger Games, nurtured a perpetual vendetta against any and all District 12 tributes under the care of the Victor of the 50th, and always ordered his own mentees to take Haymitch's proteges out, in revenge for what happened to his brother, Panache.

Other Opinion: I think that there should’ve been four books in the original series.

So yeah, like the title says I really think that there should’ve been four books in the original trilogy with the new book being set in between “hunger games” and “catching fire”. In this new version of the series, Peeta and Katniss win the 73rd hunger games and this new second book would cover the 74th games with them as mentors and explore the uprising while laying the groundwork for the revolution.

A big issue I’ve always had with the series is that there are so few details about previous hunger games, the rebellion, the victors, life in the other districts, the careers, and the history of Panem. I think having Katniss and Bread Man as mentors in the 74th games and having to interact with other victors and capital citizens would give us an organic way to get information about the other districts while also setting the scene for the 75th games. I also think that this new book could expand more on Peeta’s relationship with his family and more background on the rebellion since we know from SOTR the it was at least 25ish years in the making by the time of the original trilogy.

Also sorry if this sounds like it was written by a 10 year old, I’m stoned rn

Also also, Catching Fire and Mockingjay would be mostly unchanged in this new version, except we would just has more info about the victors in the 75th games and the leaders of rebellion in Mockingjay like Lyme and Paylor.

Why do the Peacekeepers hide the fact that people die of starvation?

Katniss mentions that people often starve, but the cause of death is put down as something else. It's clear that all the people of district 12 know the truth. The Capitol likely doesn't care. So to what end?

Theory about the Hunger Games (Spoilers for Catching Fire and Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) Spoiler

Post image
9 Upvotes

I'm currently rereading the Hunger Games and I'm currently reading Catching Fire and in this passage, Katniss mentions that District 12 is the only district where the citizens don't learn any important skills which can help them in the Hunger Games until they are no longer eligible.

So my theory is that Snow wants to punish the Capitol for Lucy Gray and Haymitch. Maybe his personal grudges against them extended to their entire district which also kinda explains why there haven't been many Victors from District 12.

Does this theory make sense? Or did someone ask the author this and did she disprove this?

Advice needed: Film or book first?

I have recently started listening to the audiobooks of the hunger games, as I never read them when they were first published, and have just finished catching fire. I will listen to mockingjay this way as well, as I have seen the film trilogy and know what’s going to happen (mostly).

What I want to ask is if I should listen to the audiobooks, or read the books, of songbirds & snakes and sunrise on the reaping, before or after I watch their films?

In the books I’m currently listening to, I liked knowing where I was and what was happening in the story, as sometimes my mind can wander from audiobooks, especially if I’m doing something else at the same time. But as the next 2 books are new stories to me, I wonder whether I want the thrill of not knowing what’s coming in the next chapter …

And if I do choose to read the books first, should I go physical or audio?

Thanks for your advice 😊

Hunger games theory

Okay there's not a lot of evidence to it but we also don't have a lot of information behind it but what if Annie was a Lulu. In the Mockingjay book when katniss is taking any to go get dresses she mentions that she talks randomly and laughs randomly and covers her ears as if there's a noise that nobody else could hear and it really reminds me of Lulu from srotr. So what if she was a Lulu and when the arena flooded they didn't realize that she could swim so she ended up being the last survivor. It would explain why katniss wouldn't have seen a lot of her because the capital wouldn't want her to be as seen Plus it explains her mental distress. It's obviously not perfect but it just popped into my head while I was relistening to the book.

I found a clue in Mockingjay that could indicate District 4 is located in the Gulf Coast, NOT California (the film map is not canon to the books).

Post image
155 Upvotes

So firstly we know Panem is set in a future North America after sea levels have risen. As you see on the map above that means a lot of the current day Gulf Coast is flooded and the Panem coastline would look completely different. The area around Louisiana and south east Texas has become one long indented shore with lots of islands, inlets and peninsula's (perfect for a water and fishing based culture). The climate and water there is very warm (Finnick has bronzed skin) and the Gulf is currently one of the most productive areas for fishing in the USA (much more so than California). They also fish shrimp which is specifically mentioned as something caught in District 4.

But now on to the clue I found. When Finnick and Annie get married the ceremony is conducted by a man named Dalton, who is from District 10. He is chosen to officiate the ceremony because it's stated that District 4 and District 10 share similar wedding customs. To me this strongly implies District 4 and District 10 are close to one another, hence the cultural overlap/ exchange. We know District 10 is livestock (the ranching district basically) and most agree it's likely located on the plains of Texas (and depending upon how big it is it probably goes into some neighbouring states and down into north Mexico). I've placed on the map where I think it is. If that's true then the Gulf Coast makes perfect sense as the location for District 4 as it would directly neighbour 10, whereas California is a LONG way away from 10 and would have developed very different customs, and on top of that doesn't have the same level of suitability for a productive fishing culture. Let me know what you think about this theory!
