Just one more guitar …

So I have 8 guitars of varying values, saw the new fender professional range and couldn’t resist.
A tele of this flavour will be with me on Wednesday 😊.

I might be sensible and sell my made in Japan aerodyne tele to offset some of my credit card bill, or I may not šŸ˜‚

Not that's it new or novel, but I think it turned out pretty good. Had two copies of that album so I figured I'd get good use outta the less clean copy.

How many folks are slinging a Telecaster that doesn't say Fender on it? Here's one made by Keith Holland when he was at Torres Amps in San Jose California in the mid 80s. I took it to Keith after I bought it in or around 2010. He couldn't remember a lot of specifics like which pickups he used but thought they were Seymour Duncans. Chandler body and neck though he couldn't remember the body wood type but guessed that it was swamp ash. Such a simple design that is so versatile.

Got this from a music shop in Tokyo a couple years ago, TN-SPL, it's a pretty phenomenal instrument. Tex specs bridge and mid, and a dragster in the neck slot. Was thinking about a Seth Lover neck but switched gears at the last minute to the alinco 2 pro.

Whatcha like more if you could only have one: tele middle position OR strat positions 2 and 4

(I realize this is the tele subreddit so there might be some tele bias lol. I also, like many, started on a strat and still love strats, though a tele is my main guitar right now)

The bridge pickup on a tele is super famous, and I feel like the neck pickup is famous in its own right especially in like jazz circles. But the middle position is so nice. That funk, that clarity, love it.

Which do you prefer: tele middle position or strat positions 2 and 4? I surprisingly think if I could only have one it'd be the tele middle position. I know you could do neck/bridge combo on a strat, but let's assume that's not what we're working with here.

Replacing Vintage Tuners on Squire Tele

Hey Everyone, I have a Squire Telecaster and want to replace the vintage tuners with ones that let the string go through a hole in the peg. I'm just much better at stringing those type of tuners. I don't know the year (probably early 2000's-2010) or model of my Tele but I assume I need In-line tuners since that's what's already on there. I don't really have any guitar stores nearby so I will need to order online. My biggest worry is getting something that doesn't end up fitting. If anyone has suggestions on tuners that should work or how to go about figuring out the proper size etc., I'd be very much obliged.

[Added: Oh f*** I didn't realize the string initially goes straight down into the peg before going through the notch and starting the wrap. Shoulda Googled...thanks all for the input. Good news is that I don't have to buy new tuners, lol ]

I Finally Found a Keeper

I finally found a Tele that checks all the boxes. I’ve always loved the Telecaster aesthetics but could never bond with them. The neck shape, fretboard radius, blockiness and honk… everything that makes a Tele a Tele just didn’t work for me lol.

I absolutely love the 50s Ultra Luxe.

Replacement neck setup and feedback

I have a telecaster baja and always found the neck too thick. I am generally more comfortable with modern C necks and wanted to transition to an unfinished fretboard so I replaced it with an american pro classic neck and I have some questions regarding body/neck fit, action, and shimming.

  1. Fit: Does the fit look good? I see a small gap on the low E side. Generally the greater the contact and tighter the fit the better. I don't hear anything weird but I am under the impression the original neck was filling the pocket better and was vibrating more if that makes sense. May also be that it's just my perception and I trying too hard to find issues :)
  2. Action: Fender recommends 1.6mm on 9.5inch radius necks. Bends fret out at the 15-17th fret especially during 1.5 step bends. The best I could get for good sound overall is 2.5mm. Generally I like low action. This is still playable and I am wondering if it's worth aiming for that fender reference number which I understand is just a reference but I would expect it to be the balanced reference number so not sure if I should start checking for high frets and go through that process. Side note, relief is checked and ok no buzzing on 1-12 frets. Although the nut could use some filing down.
  3. Shimming and saddle height. The saddles are nearly bottomed out. On high E I can get 1.6mm action when bottomed out but the low E can't go under 2mm at best when bottomed out. So does it worth shimming and how does that impact point 1, fit vibration etc.

Yes I know I am overthinking it and should just play and have fun which to be honest I do! I love the neck and comfort and I reached a point where while I love the magic that surrounds vintage setups I lately started being more interested in comfort and having fun. The chunky soft V neck was making my palm feel sore. What puzzles me is whether I should go through the process of "perfecting" the setup if such a thing exists.

TLDR: should I bother optimising neck body fit, action, and shim if the instrument seems to play just fine?

Note: The baja neck is not available for sale :)

Neck fit question

Does anyone know if a Fender spec (American, Mexican, Squier) neck will fit on an old Fernandes ā€œThe Revivalā€ tele body without any modification?

There is only one (or two) Telecaster(s)

I've tried really, really hard to be a Les Paul player since I was a kid, and it just never works for me. I now have two guitars, and only two guitars. A new Player II Modified SH (in an awesome Olympic Pearl that my potato phone just can't capture) and an OEM Partscaster that I built a few years ago with a roasted maple neck and Twisted Tele pickups.

So I'm done.

Probably.

Last year about this time I decided to consolidate guitars - sell off some of the ones I didn't play and get one or two nicer ones. I sold a few and got an open box Strat and it was fine. But I've always been a Tele guy.

Last week, I noticed an open box Tele that would be the twin to my Strat, so I snapped it up. Bonus points because it was the heaviest one on Sweetwater.

I haven't put it down. I don't know what it is about these guitars but I just love them. 🄰

Where is the tone, amp, cab or the pedals?

Iam using amps simulations in a daw, telecaster is the signal provider, i wanna know where the tone actually is …

I want clean tones, like almost a di signal, but also has that fat to it, it has that cream to it, it has that spongy thing to it, yet the clarity of a di signal, and that fat has a threshold, like at a little harder pluck the fat can be felt, kind of a clean vintage fender sound but more di clarity..

Iam using corry wong x plugin by neural dsp using di console amp,( first amp in the plugin)
cab is off, eq off, only a di signal going thru that di amp
It 99 percent sounds like a di signal only, the tuber ( tube screamer) pedal is on, overdrive pedal is on both at zero drive tone at 12 o clock mix at 12 o clock, then a chorus dimension d, its diffrent kind or chorus plugin, it does adds that chorus muddiness, but its adding that sponge to it maybe idk, then a reverb, simple chain.

Mostly i get that exact sound i want from the tuber and overdrive, but on high e string and sometimes it sounds a little too DI-ish, want to fix that, find that perfect di yet saturation balance… what can be done,

iam open to dump this whole chain and make another one that you could suggest, i just want mad clarity yet vintage clean cream, spongy, romantic ahh song sounds :)

Or

Do i need another pedal plugin, or its a diffrent amp i should use, or cabs should be turned on, or is it truly in the fingers.. please helpsps.
