Hardware iPhone Duo is Sold Out for Christmas as Shipping Estimates Slip to 2027
https://www.macrumors.com/2026/10/16/iphone-duo-sold-out-for-christmas/28
u/platocplx 3h ago
Apple has the worst timelines right now if you want unlocked. But carriers do have stock in some configurations. Costco under T-Mobile crazy enough still even has some configs still for launch day. You can get a 1TB at launch for a night sky model.
5
u/ensui67 1h ago
Not for launch day, but, first week of Nov. Not too bad. Definitely better than what Apple is offering.
It was the same when I was preordering. You could see some still available through T mobile for maybe early Nov or a week after launch, while Apple was already backed up to 2027. It was the craziest preorder in possibly forever. Never seen one get back ordered that far. The white ones got sold out instantly while black still had available on tmobile.

Yeah feels like scalpers were hitting the apple site
1
u/HillarysFloppyChode 34m ago edited 22m ago
Apples site doesn't require an account to buy a phone, carriers do, thats why it took longer for them to slip.
The easy solution is to require an Apple ID to buy on preorder, prioritize accounts with existing Apple products bought in the last 8 months over accounts started a day before pre order. That basically kneecaps scalpers...this could be used for just about all other places scalpers exist too.
They limit them to 2 per customer, if you have 400 bots running, then thats 800 phones in a matter of seconds and you can restart with them. In a matter of a few seconds, scalpers could buy 2000 phones fairly easily.
My guess is 80% of the demand and "bloodbath" was from bots.
Ill see if Apple actually does anything about them, its actually against Apples own TOS to scalp as it counts as a B2B transaction and Apples consumer store is B2Customer only. If they start canceling them, which they might if enough people bug them about it, those delivery dates should drop significantly across the board.
(this is for the US store atleast)

Oh man, I remember actually getting excited for new phones. Honestly, there hasn’t been a reason to get excited since the iPhone 4 or maybe that Samsung that turned into a grenade.

u/iamacheeto1 3h ago
iPhone X was the last time I was genuinely excited
41
u/Ill-Mastodon-8692 2h ago
I went iphone X, waited to a 15 pro max, now have a Duo on order.
I feel I had a pretty good evolution of iphones.
12
u/slowtreme 2h ago
I also went from X to 15 pro. I'm not planning to upgrade though. the duo can wait a bit, at least until I see some in the wild.
5
u/wordsuponwords 2h ago
Holy shit is this my alt account? Jk, wiggle in a 13 pro max & then we're fraternal twins

u/eugene20 4h ago
The only thing that will eventually arrive that will motivate me to buy will be a solid state battery, I will be so happy to move past the possible bomb phase of pocket gadgets.
22
u/Baby_Doomer 2h ago
Have you had a lot of phones explode in your pocket?
22
4
u/eugene20 2h ago
Not yet but I've had to dispose of one properly that had swollen so much overnight as a housemate slept next to it that it had popped the back off the phone, which didn't have a user removable back, it had glass and it was sticking into it. We were all very lucky it didn't actually rupture at the time, that would have been extremely bad sat on their matress.
1
u/axiom_glitch 2h ago
Yeah, 4 was the last one that I was really blown away excited. The IPhone X was the only one since, but still not anywhere near the level of 4.
3
u/old-time-fiddle 1h ago
The 4 was incredible and agree on the X! The iOS 7 upgrade was a lot of fun too, even as someone who’s not a fan of flat design. iOS 6 was peak design 😂
-34
u/Strong-Promise-510 3h ago
I mean, iPhone 4 is a lot of an exaggeration, I’d say since iPhone 14. If you genuinely think since iPhone 4 then you are a dinosaur lol
13
u/squish042 3h ago
We probably are. My first iPhone was the 3G. Once you’ve been around for enough new releases, you just kind of get over it all.
11
u/flyingcanuck 3h ago
"the camera is more camera. The AI is more AI."
None of it is intriguing anymore. I just want a phone man. 😅
22
u/caj_account 3h ago
You have no idea. I got it early and every time I pulled it out of my pocket everyone wanted a look. The screen was absolutely beautiful. The materials an absolute delight. $5 for 200 texts was cherry on top.
-8
u/Strong-Promise-510 2h ago
You have no idea. I’ve also had smart phones since 2010. That’s like comparing athletes from the 90’s to today. The processing power and features today are on a different planet compared to 2010. You just don’t know because I’m assuming you’re still on the X or something, which was a great phone for its time, but the 14 blows it out of the water.
5
u/caj_account 2h ago
I have had all phones since 7 except the 17. We may have the power but there’s no excitement.
-6
u/Strong-Promise-510 2h ago
The power of the 13/14 was exciting. It’s been stagnant since then, but at the time it was very exciting if you understood
5
u/sidetablecharger 3h ago
The last iPhone that got me genuinely excited was the X.
1
u/Strong-Promise-510 2h ago
I was going to say X, I think the 14 was the last big step in flagship phones since the X. The max screen size was the beginning of the future, that’s for sure
0
u/durtmagurt 3h ago
I mean…. I’ve had cellphones long before smartphones. I’d actually almost prefer to go back to that.

Guess my kids are getting 2 iPhone Airs and duct tape for Christmas.
How will they survive? Think of the children, Ternus.

u/LazloHollifeld 3h ago
All out and we’re not even into the Christmas creep yet. Going to be a bummer for some that figure it out way too late. Kinda a huge whiff on their part.
-6
u/IWantToPlayGame 1h ago
Honest question, but did you think a $2,000 phone (realistically closer to $2,200 with tax) was going to be a hot Christmas present?
5
u/deesmutts88 51m ago
A lot of people have more money than this website thinks. Reddit seems to think you’re either a billionaire or broke. Truth is a lot of people are just living well. Whole lot of people happy to pay a couple grand for a new phone for themselves or their partner, hence the sell out.

I’ll wait for the gen 3 to release, then get the gen 2 for cheaper, and fixes any potential issues with a new category device.
That or the 20th anniversary iPhone.
13
u/tastes_a_bit_funny 1h ago
That’ll show ‘em!
1
u/Warm_Adhesiveness934 47m ago
I don’t think that’s OP meant. The thing with Apple products is that the first gen ages the fastest. iPhone 2G, iPad, Apple Watch, iPhone X, all of them became obsolete really fast compared to the 2nd and 3rd gen of them.
0
u/nstrasner 9m ago
Ok and the 3g aged the second fastest and 4 the third fastest and 5 the fourth fastest…if you never buy a product you want because a better one will exist next year you’ll just never buy something you enjoy. No problem waiting for next gen but future obsolescence shouldn’t be the reason. Unless you keep phones for 5 years I guess
Edit: I missed a 3GS and 4s in there but you get my point
1
u/FriendlyLawnmower 11m ago
then get the gen 2 for cheaper,
I mean the iphone 17 pro actually got a price increase despite the 18 pro coming out so I wouldn't count on a past year model getting cheaper anymore
-17
u/TheKingInTheNorth 2h ago
So you’re making plans now to buy next years phone in 2 years? Unfortunately whatever phone you have now has a battery that will be obsolete long before then.
20
u/pbmadman 1h ago
I’m using an iPhone 13 that I bought when the 14 came out. What makes you so certain that batteries become obsolete in such short periods of time?
3
u/thesaxmaniac 1h ago
Also it’s 89 bucks to replace your phone’s battery directly at Apple. Good as new.
1
u/thesaxmaniac 1h ago
Battery replacement is extremely cheap, why would that even be a problem? Obsolete isn’t even the right word lmao.
-42
u/JapowSnowboarder 3h ago
Or get the fold 8 now. Geez are you a boomer
11
u/SilentPizzle 3h ago
lol nobody wants android in the USA unless you’re a black sheep or foreigner
-1
-5
u/MeNameIsDerp 2h ago
That’s entirely untrue.
2
u/GeezusLizard 2h ago
It's very true, it just depends on your age. Apple holds about 50-55% of the U.S. market share. But amongst 18-29 year olds it jumps to 68%, and for 13-17 year olds it goes all the way up to 88%.
2
-3
u/RandomBloke2021 2h ago
Can confirm, US here and I'm the black sheep of the family. NGL whenever my family has iPhone issues (iphone 15's) bricking and thermal issues, i grin just a little on the inside.
-4
2
u/sansaman 3h ago
That’s on my radar now, but after getting the iPhone 15PM, I find it was the best latest model that has everything. I’ve never had a phone more than 2 years, but now planning on 4-5 years.
What does age have anything to do with how to choose a phone? I’m just choosing wisely now.
1
u/Sir-Spork 1h ago
Don’t buy a fold if you want long usage after its warranty. I never had a phone be replaced and repaired so much
-1
u/JapowSnowboarder 1h ago
My fold 3 has last 4 years, my last iPhone x died after 1.5 years
1
u/Sir-Spork 46m ago
You are lucky, everyone I know who has owned a samsung fold has had similar problems.
I have another friend who just bought the Pixel Pro fold, waiting to see how that plays out.
1
u/Sir-Spork 1h ago
I will never own another fold, I love the form factor which is why I’m waiting for the duo. But after my z4 fold i swore off ever owning another Samsung device

u/THR-WAVY 9m ago
about $84 a month and with the way things are going what else are you gonna buy for $2000

u/AbeFromanEast 4h ago edited 4h ago
Looks really cool but I’m waiting for version 2 because
- Apple is doing a lot that is new for them.
- The Apple C2 cellular modem is v1, and Apple's first foray off Qualcomm's cell modems. I want to see the C2 work with a lot of people first.

But then it’ll sell out too and you’ll be into deep 2028 and you’ll be like ehhh I’ll wait for v3
-24
u/nickilous 4h ago
Ahh yes version 2 after 8 versions of the Samsung galaxy zfold and 7 versions of the galaxy flip series all using iterations of the same screen tech and 55 distinct versions of the iPhone. Version 2 will really hash this tech out.

u/Smith6612 3h ago
Other than the demand being presumably high, I've heard Apple is also dealing with manufacturing problems outside of just general supply which is slowing things down a bit.
I'm still waiting to hear about a Sand Test for that hinge...

People in the U.S. have more money then sense as well as credit

u/appleparkfive 1m ago
A lot of people are thriving now, despite what Reddit says. It's an issue with how split it is, of course. Plenty aren't doing well

u/Fooftook 1h ago
Okay. My guinea pigs have all bought the phone. Let’s check back in January of so, see what it’s like. Then order at that point.
1
u/Thebaldsasquatch 59m ago
I’m interested, but not till I see one in the store and can really see if that screen looks better and the fold less apparent than the current Samsung. If it isn’t, I’ll probably just get an 18. Either way, my phone needs to be retired. Thing is buggy and slow as hell.

I’m just waiting for the no-tech flip phone to make its way back from the dead tbh. Force me to call or txt someone, I no longer want an algorithm controlling my thoughts.

u/LiftingCode 3h ago
Perhaps you can use your smartphone to open Google and see if this already exists in dozens of forms and has for years.

I can’t go back to having a phone that I can’t use with one hand

Supply and demand. Apple is slow rolling the drop knowing damn well this will flop if they don’t build demand hype around it
2
u/lolmanade 1h ago
It won’t flop. People are excited about this one. It’s the first form factor change for them in nearly 20 years
-5
u/d3fault 1h ago
Read my comment again. Never made that claim. You misunderstood the context of what I was saying.
2
u/lolmanade 49m ago
I think I understood it. Youre say that if they don’t create scarcity then the product itself isn’t good enough to sell itself. I disagree
-1
u/DanielPhermous 1h ago
Sure. Source?
-1
u/d3fault 1h ago edited 1h ago
Source to what? My thought process of how I reached that theory? Source to defining what supply and demand is? source to how companies tier product releases to build demand hype?
Perhaps a source to understanding how critical thinking works..?
But if you want to compare release numbers…
Initial 2026 Volume Target for Duo = 6 to 8 million units (recently bumped closer to 10 million due to high demand)iPhone 16 = Estimated 20–30+ million units for a typical baseline model launch.
All it takes is some critical thinking
-1
u/DanielPhermous 1h ago
My thought process of how I reached that theory?
Theory? Oh, I'm sorry. I see now that when you said "Apple is..." I somehow should have known to read it as "I think Apple is..."
Perhaps a source to understanding how critical thinking works..?
Oh, I doubt there's any of that in your comment. You're just twisting things about so that even good news for Apple is somehow bad news.
-1
-1
u/NecessaryPopular1 1h ago
Apple didn’t make it flip because they thought there wasn’t any innovation that way, but they’re selling the Duo for $2K with a camera that is significantly inferior to the Pro and Pro Max models, which now became too big to go in my pockets too.

I feel like the folding phone is a clear gimmick when you look at those hinge dirt tests
7
u/8bitjer 3h ago
You rolling around in dirt and rocks 99% of your days? If so, yeah, it’s not for you. The rest of us stay pretty clear of it. Plus it helps it’s ip68
-7
u/SorrelJuice 2h ago
You’ve never dropped your phone outside? I mean I forget redditors do stay pretty clear of the real world
8
u/8bitjer 2h ago
Right, so you're equating a video of someone dumping dirt into a hinge to dropping the phone on concrete... ok. Time to move on. Good luck with whatever phone you own. I'll be happy with mine. Good day.
-8
u/SorrelJuice 2h ago
I’m from Florida where people actually go outside in nature and do recreational activities it’s pretty clear it’s an issue apple bot and I have an 18 so I don’t even know what weird point you’re making at the end, you replied to me
2
u/sheetsofsaltywood 2h ago
I mean…I go outside fairly frequently and I’ve never dropped my phone outside. If I’m outside, it’s usually staying in my pocket anyway.
