Business Polymarket saw $600 million in election trades after the elections were over | Millions kept changing hands long after the election outcomes were effectively settled.

You think they'll ever give the money from that fraud back?

Well you see they are also the ones ultimately in charge of regulating it too!

Because the people who have the power to shut it down are the people who benefit from it existing in the first place...

I don't understand why this keeps having to be said.

"How come nobody is doing anything"

Corruption and regulatory capture as a result of corruption. That is the only answer.

They managed to make it so they are regulated by a tiny underfunded agency and then the President they supported financially in the election appointed one of their chosen attorneys as the head of the agency. Now that guy is telling STATES that they cannot regulate Polymarket or Kalshi.

Because it makes money?

Because the rich people who rule the country now, need it to launder their money.

Its already bad enough to be able to bet onto everything. But for things like elections this becomes a threat to democracy, as this is inviting manipulations.

Before you at least needed to do to somehow cash in on an manipulated outcome by prefered public funding, tax breaks, etc. But this happened under the eyes of public, there are structures present to make this harder and it can be prosecuted later.

But now you can just gain cash for manipulations, without any effort and proving the connections. Now even the person in whose favor something is manipulated doesn't need to know about it...

The only solution is to ban such platforms.

This goes beyond that. Its money laundering.

This. The volume of trades after the event youre betting on is over reveals it pretty easily. It's paired trading.

Money laundering

Reading through this, it seems like it’s just a new path of money laundering the same way crypto started to get exploited in a similar way 10 years ago.

Criminal activity, this corruption will bring on the next global economic collapse. It’s way out of hand .

In addition to the money laundering it could also be disinformation about “stolen” elections that tends to happen all the time now amongst the true believers. In December 2020 polymarket still had Donald Trump at 10% to win, no doubt fueled by both money launderers and the cultists who went on to do January 6th. Adding financial incentives to doing shit like that isn’t going to end well.
