Hey everyone, a couple of days ago I made a post, and I wanted to add something to it now.
First of all, I want to say a HUGE thank you in advance to everyone who didnât just scroll past and actually took the time to support me. To those who have been in a situation like mine, and also to those who havenât but were still able to understand and empathize with someone elseâs emotions and problems. And to everyone who explained what to do in a situation like this, where to write, who to contact, and how to properly file a police report so that it actually gets taken seriously.
Secondly, I want to say that Iâve also received a huge amount of hate. (To the point where people actually messaged me outside of Reddit, on other social media, just to insult me and even wish me death because of my appearance or because of my post.) I want to make this clear once and for all and remind everyone (since Iâve already mentioned this multiple times in the comments): I was NOT asking for help. I was explaining and sharing my situation with you. I naively found myself in this situation for the first time, and I had absolutely no experience with anything like this before.
I also want to explain that in my first post, because I was very emotional, I wasnât able to properly explain my thoughts and the situation right away. I only managed to explain some of it in my replies to the comments, even though I probably should have explained it in the original post. But I was writing while emotional and I just couldnât put everything into words properly.
I wasnât looking for âquick moneyâ. I was looking for a small online job (moderating/promoting other peopleâs content or social media accounts), so while I was completing my tasks, the scammers didnât really give me any reason to suspect that it was a scam. They were actually paying me for the small tasks I was doing, like promoting other peopleâs content on Instagram. So when they eventually gave me a task that was completely unrelated to the original job, where I had to send them money in order to supposedly get more money back, I thought to myself: âWhy would they scam me if I had already been getting paid for the other tasks?â That was exactly the point.
I want to give others some advice that I unfortunately learned too late because of my own naivety. You should be paid for your work. You should NEVER have to pay extra in order to receive your salary! (Iâm saying this so that hopefully nobody else ends up in the same situation.)
And also⊠please be kinder. Nobody is asking you for anything, and nobody is demanding anything from you. But telling someone âeverything will be okayâ or âdonât worryâ costs you absolutely nothing. Itâs free. Every person could be a source of support and kindness for another person online, even if you donât know them. Maybe for some people, 200 CHF is a completely insignificant or even ridiculous amount of money, while for someone else, like me, it can be important and meaningful. It doesnât matter! What matters is âhumanityâ. And sometimes, one single comment can change everything, for better or for worse.
Anyway, I hope everyone has a good day, and once again, thank you to everyone who supported me, and also to those who didnât. I understand that everyone has bad days, or that some people simply misunderstood what I was trying to say in my first post. I believe there is some good in everyone, somewhere deep down.
