🆘 Help Me Short throw shifter for a 2020 Subaru Impreza Sport

• Upvotes

Hi, I enjoy driving my 2020 manual Impreza, and I want to add a short throw shifter. There are several on the market, I was wondering if anyone has already done this change, and what their recommendations would be for parts, and anything else to look into.

Thanks

This is super unexciting, but I've had a number of burnt out dash lights and finally got the energy and courage to replace them all. Don't ask me why but I was hesitant for years to do this.

In hindsight it was so simple and straightforward I'm not sure why I didn't do it sooner. But now I can finally see the outside temp at night! 😂

🆘 Help Me Head gaskets. Throw me some tips.

Silver one needs a clutch and head gaskets. I have a daily driver right now so I’m using this extra car to get some experience under my belt. What are some tools or tips you wish you knew, when you did it?

I’m pretty novice on the wrenches, so I know this will be a daunting task. But I’m just gonna take it one step at a time and try to make it happen.

❓ Questions 2023 Impreza Lift

Post image
8 Upvotes

I just bought a 2023 Impreza sport, absolutely love the car. it drives so smooth. I have a very steep driveway, and the tip of the front bumper scrapes only on the way down. Is it worth it to put a 1 inch lift? Has anyone tried these Anderson Design and Fabrication kit? wondering if it would cause problems with how smooth it drives, or if it’s gonna cause more complications in the future. Just trying to save my front bumper.

🆘 Help Me 2019 Impreza dashboard lights

Hi folks! Hoping someone has some guidance on this issue- about 3 or 4 times now in the last two months the check engine light and all the other dashboard lights have come on.

Twice the engine stalled from a stop when this happened but otherwise the car has been driving fine. We’ve taken our 2019 Impreza to a local pep boys and they ran their diagnostic and said they couldn’t find anything wrong. Then when it happened again we took it to the dealer last week and they cleaned a carbon trap and said that was all they could see. Nothing found on diagnostic on their end either.

Today lights came on the dash again. Well take it to the dealer again, but in the interim, we’d love some insight.

Dates of lights on are 9/22, 9/24, and 10/18. First picture is today’s lights, second picture are lights from 9/22.

Thanks all!

🆘 Help Me 2005 Subaru Impreza, forester strut lift issues

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi,

I have a 2005 Subaru Impreza Wagon that was lifted 2” by the previous owner with 2007 Subaru Forester Monroe Quickstruts (172425 and 172426) at the front. no issues or noise but one spring snapped.

I went ahead and ordered the exact same parts albeit part number 272425 and 272426. I believe the first number is a manufacturing year of which all now seem to be “2” now.

I installed them and both sides are clunking due to them topping out. The springs don’t seem to compress much with the weight of the car leading to topping out/clunking. as I compare them with the others I see that the new ones have a shorter strut and spring.

my questions are:

  1. why would this be? is the spring stiffer?

  2. has anyone else experienced this?

  3. what can I do? could I put Impreza springs on there?

any help would be appreciated.

🆘 Help Me Help! Head gasket issue turned into a nightmare. 2017 Subaru Impreza Sport

have a 2017 Impreza sport with about 146k miles. It’s had zero issues since I got it.

In July all dash lights came on…no overheating, noise, shaking, or anything else. Took it to a local shop that said it was a head gasket leak…oil getting in the coolant. They showed me milky/latte looking coolant. I need my car so said let’s fix it. Fast forward through 9 weeks at the shop, initial report was that everything was as expected and no surprises. As my engine is being put back together the fuel rail sensor is broken, a “fin” on the intake breaks and one other part. I get my car back with check engine light on that is said to be something that can be cleared. I check the coolant a couple of days later because I’m a bit suspicious…it’s looking milky again. I’m told it’s residual. I’ve since had someone else just look at it, not pull the engine or take it apart, and am told that the original mechanic put some sort of copper sealant on it and that “tumbler gears” on the intake are stripped. There is also a strong suspicion that the incorrect head gaskets were used. A block test was done and the liquid immediately turned yellow. Also my coolant really looks like someone poured a latte in it.

The new shop also said that in the 2 minutes my car was running to pull it into the garage after sitting for 2 days, the pressure in the radiator was so much that it “exploded” when they took the cap off.

Throughout it’s 9 weeks in the shop the shop called me zero times to update me. I called 16 times for check ins. I asked at least half a dozen times for a written invoice, quote, anything in writing. I started asking before I took it in. this was a family friends shop, and yes it is an actual shop, and we’re in a small town, so everyone assured me it would be fine.

And, to add extra insult to all of this, when I got it home I opened the back door to find my back seat covered in dirt and cat hair…turns out the shop cats slept in it while it was there.

🆘 Help Me Lights flash whenever I turn the car on

Post image
5 Upvotes

I’m having this issue where whenever the car turns on, I get these 4 lights to turn on every time with the “AT OIL TEMP” light flashing. However whenever I turn the car off and turn it back on again they all seem to go away, so that’s been my strategy for the past few months or so, but I really want to get to the root of the problem.

Maybe I should do a transmission or differential fluid change? Any suggestions are welcome thanks

❓ Questions 2005 Subaru Impreza 1.6GG – P0032 came back after replacing upstream O2 sensor

Hi everyone!

I have a 2005 Subaru Impreza 1.6L (GG, naturally aspirated) with approximately 204,000 km on it.

I've been dealing with a P0032 – HO2S Heater Control Circuit High (Bank 1, Sensor 1) fault code.

Initially, I suspected the upstream oxygen sensor was faulty due to its age, so I replaced it with a new one.

Unfortunately, the issue remains.

What I've done so far:

  • Replaced the upstream oxygen sensor (Bank 1, Sensor 1).
  • Cleared the fault code using my diagnostic scanner.
  • Started the engine and let it run.
  • P0032 returned shortly after starting.
  • The engine appears to run normally despite the check engine light.

I've also been looking into the fuses, but I haven't been able to identify which fuse supplies the O2 sensor heater circuit on this particular model.

One additional thing I've noticed is a battery voltage reading of around 10.5 V with the engine switched off. I'm planning to investigate this further(but it dosnt make sanse that a bad battery has an connection here)

My questions:

  1. Does anyone know which fuse or relay supplies the upstream O2 sensor heater on the 2005 European 1.6L Impreza?
  2. Could a wiring issue or faulty connector cause P0032 even after replacing the sensor?
  3. Could the low battery voltage be contributing to this fault?
  4. Are there any common issues with this circuit on these older Imprezas?

I'd appreciate any advice

Thanks in advance!

🛠️ DIY Brake change

Just changed the rear brake pads and rotors on my 2019 Impreza Sport and was wondering if anyone knows the correct torque specs for the caliper bracket and sliders?

I used 49 ftlbs on the caliper bracket and 20 ftlbs for the sliders.

Thanks.

🆘 Help Me Check engine light started flashing and it felt like it was running on two cylinders 2010 Impreza outback sport

I just changed the spark plugs, and I was test driving it and it felt like it hesitated really hard, and then the check engine light started flashing, and that’s when it felt like it was running on two cylinders, and it started smoking the right top side of the motor is covered in oil, and then I found something that looks like a freeze plug haven’t even had the car for 2 days yet lol also, smoke coming out the rear as well. A little bit of knocking sound, but I don’t know if that’s the exhaust leak
