Before posting, mind rule 3: posts about touch pens will be removed. Read more in this post.
The /r/stylus rules:
- be nice - Conduct yourself so other people can have a discussion in a comfortable atmosphere.
- inducements must be disclosed - Any post or comment made with an inducement of any kind (sponsorship, affiliation, compensation, benefits, rewards, employment, contract, or any other inducement) must feature immediate, prominent, and clearly understood public disclosure of the nature and extent of the inducement. [Having the same username as the person whose content you're posting is sufficient disclosure.]
- no posts about non-standard-protocol pens - posts will be removed if they're about pens that are not made to the specification of a pen technology used by a pen digitizer. This almost always means pens that are used on generic touchscreens. They're just not good.
- posts about devices with no mention of a pen on their product page or documentation will be removed. This means that posts with vague product descriptions will be removed, too.
What are standard-protocol pens?
Either of the following:
- Pens made by the same company that makes the device the pen is used on. Apple Pencil on an Apple device, S-Pen on a Samsung device, Monoprice pens on Monoprice tablets, etc.
- Pens made to the specification or standard or protocol of a pen digitizer technology maker. Common pen specifications/standards/protocols are Microsoft Pen Protocol (MPP), Wacom AES, Wacom EMR ("S-Pen" EMR), Apple Pencil, and USI. These pens should (but don't always) work the same on all devices that support the pen technology specification/standard/protocol.
What are non-standard-protocol pens?
Non-standard-protocol pens generally work like a finger on a touchscreen. Touchscreen devices are not primarily designed to interact with these pens as a pen. Posts about non-standard-protocol pens may be removed. Comments mentioning them are fine. Non-standard-protocol pens are just not good. Quoting the link:
This is easier to draw with than your finger, [...] but that's about all you're gonna get.
It doesn't have palm recognition, [...] for handwriting this isn't so good, it's just not quite accurate enough
When you start writing and drawing fast, you're missing bits and pieces
Unless you just want something to use instead of your finger, don't get non-standard-protocol pens.
Why can't I ask if my device supports a pen?
If it did, there would almost certainly be a mention of a pen on the product page, user manual, or service manual.
My device supports a pen, can I ask what other pens it supports?
Sure.
Regarding certain pens with a metal/mesh/rubber tip found on Google, eBay, and Amazon
For the past couple of years Google eBay and Amazon have been flooded with results for pens that have a rubber, metal, or mesh tip. Despite being listed under the exact model name you searched for, these pens do not support a standard pen protocol, they work very similar to a finger on a touchscreen. They are being aggressively promoted on the verge of being spam. They are bad, do not be tempted to buy them.

Stylus reccomendation
I've got a MSI Summit Pro 16 laptop that I want to get a stylus for. It came with a MSI Pen 2, but I somehow managed to break all the tips, and to replace them, I'll have to buy a whole new pen. Also, it's just a really bad stylus. My laptop has MPP 2.6. Any recommendations?

Does anyone know if the nibs for the Dell PN7522W active pen are compatible with the Dell PN526 pen?
I think I need to replace the tip on my PN526 but I can’t find any nibs for it that explicitly state it’s for this pen. Are the nibs for the PN7522W compatible?

P02s stylus replacement out yet?
I am looking to buy a new pen for my Artist 22 pro, I bought a new pen in 2024 but it seems like sometime in 2025 the pen was discontinued. I've let it slide and waited but it seems like I still can't find a replacement. I've had to buy a huion charger since mine broke, and my tablet is my baby & I would be devastated to find out my 600 dollar tablet is useless without a pen that the company will not supply me. Are there any substitutes or replacements that are available yet? I checked everywhere but it seems like no one has been able to give a straight answer. I'm getting desperate here 😭

Will a MPP pen work with a laptop that says it has pen support?
What the title says.
Backstory if anyone is willing to read. In a class that requires you to answer a quiz based on the online textbook so I've been making notes using my trackpad when I'm on campus and a cheap drawing tablet when I'm at my apartment. Both methods felt tedious and thought about getting a tablet, but also too broke for that since I just bought this laptop after my last one randomly exploded (long story).
My laptop specs says that it has pen support (but no touchscreen), but I looked everywhere and could not for the life of me find what pen is supported. Went to the ASUS website and it doesn't mention it having pen support at all, and their AI just says "yeah it doesn't mention pens so it probably doesn't support pens." Anyone know if any MPP pens will work? Or have tried a MPP pen in a situation like this?

Replacement tip for Lenovo slim pen 1
My stylus tip is worn down after extensive use on a screen protector and it’s no longer comfortable to write with. I looked at the Lenovo website for a replacement but the only option has a different hardware than what my tip insert looks like. Does anyone know what tip is compatible with the slim pen?
