The second season really nailed it with the specials—they're basically the two best in the entire franchise—but how did it happen that not a single special in the third season was any good?

As amazing as SpongeBob is, I don’t think the show goes anywhere near as long without Patrick

He has provided us with iconic after iconic moment from “No this is Patrick” to “is mayonnaise an instrument” as well as the fact that he’s important and influential in a crisis such as pushing Bikini Bottom somewhere else

When the rumours came out that he was apparently going to leave the show I failed to believe it there’s just no way they could do the show without him

Overall, this season was a pretty mixed bag. I wouldn’t say it’s awful, but it’s definitely the weakest season so far. While there are a chunk of good episodes, there are also a ton of bad ones. I think one of the worst aspects of this season is the slow, meandering, dragged-out style of comedy that makes up a lot of the jokes. What do you guys think of this season?

To be honest... This Season has alot of boring episodes that don't really intrigue me. But even then... Season 5 still has a best and worst episode

Currently working my way through Season 7 on my journey to watch every single SpongeBob episode, and this one is without a doubt the worst I’ve seen. One Coarse Meal is the perfect example of how to do dark comedy WRONG. The episode centers around Plankton being genuinely terrified at the thought of Pearl stalking him and wanting to eat him, which is not helped by the fact that Karen is so damn heartless in this episode. And yet it’s all played for laughs. Plankton’s fear and suicidal thoughts are never taken seriously in the episode, and are treated like pure comedy. And for me personally, it’s not funny to watch someone lose their sanity and will to live after being psychologically tormented for over two weeks straight. It’s just horrible. And Plankton never gets any resolution in the end. When he finally tries to enact his revenge on Krabs after realizing that it has him inside a whale costume, SpongeBob uses a projection of whales to scare him away. Which is weird, because SpongeBob decided to tell Plankton that it was Krabs who was pretending to be the whale, alongside his greatest fear. Speaking of which, HOLY SH#T, Krabs is awful in this episode. Yes, Plankton isn’t a saint, but getting driven to suicide via psychological torment was NOT a balanced punishment. And when Krabs hears that his old childhood friend is on the road, ready to end him self, he finds it hilarious. This wouldn’t be an issue if the episode didn’t treat Krabs like he was the hero of the story. But the episode ends with him winning, as if he was the one who should come out on top in the end.

Overall, it’s just a horrible, miserable episode with zero redeeming qualities. It’s not funny in the slightest. The story is awful and mean-spirited with no substance. Most of the cast is horribly unlikable, and the only likable character gets treated like sh#t. I know a lot of people say A Pal For Gary is worse, but in that episode, at least Gary was able to fight back and got a somewhat happy ending. Meanwhile in One Coarse Meal, the one time Plankton tries to fight back against his tormentor, he loses in the end. Not to mention him getting psychologically scarred by his deepest fear is treated like a victory. It’s the first episode in the series which I would happily grant a 0/10. This episode literally has no reason to exist.
