So, I'm really interested in Splatoon's story (who isn't lol) and I love the level gameplay, but what I'm not a big fan of is the fighting system. Like, I can kill another player in turf war no problem, but I can't do normal fights for some reason.
1 (almost 2) year(s) ago I first tried the story mode in the 3rd game. I was really enjoying it until I got to Frye and I just couldn't beat it! I was really annoyed and ended up rage quitting because of it, and haven't tried again since.
Recently, i tried side order. I really like the gameplay but now I'm stuck on Marina. You read that right, MARINA. I took down the barrier easily, but i could hardly ever attack her since 1,000,000,000,000 Jelletons (i hope i spelled that right lol) kept spawning and trapping me in a corner until I run out of ink.
I don't just wanna watch random videos to see the story, cuz that's kind of boring, but I don't think there's any chance of me winning lol. Any tips are appreciated!! :D
EDIT: tysm everyone! I finally beat her!!! I guess I'm just stupid and panicked too much lmao. Any palettes y'all recommend?

So as seen in this video, I got a quad kill. Granted, I was playing Anarchy Open so I could play with my friend, so not exactly the epitome of skill (especially since two of the kills were finishing people off with rain). But of course then I was in all four of the player’s kill cams? So I took a page out of fighting game strategy’s book and tbagged; while considered rude, taunting/tbagging in some games is considered part of the “mental game” where you do it to tilt the opponent so they get more frustrated and thus they will get more and more irrational with how and what they attack with, causing the match to be easier to win.
Is this just rude? “playing dirty”? I assume this kind of thing isn’t allowed in comp scenes, but the only comp I’ve been involved in was CCA through a Splatoon “esports” team i’m on for my college, so I don’t really know? It’s not like I‘ve tried it while playing in CCA stuff lol
tldr if you can win the game while doing this it’s just part of strategy and if you lose it then you look like a moron. I’m assuming either way i’m still the asshole in this clip lmao

I have never been skilled at shooting games. I have never won a single game of Fortnite or Warzone, I was discrete at Battlefield 1 and Skill SP2, but the Wii U was a game-changer. When Splatoon came out, my expectations were matched.
The GamePad's gyro controls felt heavenly. The power-ups and equipment were straightforward. I started from joining a Youtuber's live games, to scaling up the competitive scene of the time.
Thing is: I have a Switch 2 and watched this one hour video about Splatoon Lore, and felt inspired to return to those times where a quick game could improve my day (hoping my inner child is still in me somewhere).
Splatoon Raiders seems like a good choice, but realistically I want Splatoon for the PvP. My concern is: will I be overwhelmed by the competitive scene of an x-year-old Splatoon 3? Is minmaxing gear an absolute nightmare? Are the Jyro controls up to par? Is equipment too convoluted? And do you guys feel social pressure to customise your locker?

Since so many items are behind a paywall, I've decided to investigate to see if Splatoon 3 might secretly be pay-to-win...

Yes. And After 4 times making a comeback in a 3v4, I CAN SAY ITS POSSIBLE
So I made a little trailer to celebrate before I uploaded my matches.
Ever since then I have won FOUR MORE matches while I was behind in points AND someone quit early.
this post is dedicated to appropriate_camp because he needs motivation. SEND SOME LOVE!!!

I don’t know the skill level of people on the sub in general, but I’ve had a lot of solo que teammates who don’t really understand what the dpad communications mean; I’m in S+2 currently, so I figured it might be good to just let people know the general etiquette around what people mean when they press it.
While the “ouch” button is technically a “I died” button, a function of a “i died” button is not very useful. Its main purpose is to warn the team of what killed you; if you did not trade with a particularly strong killer, it is a good idea to “ouch” to warm your team of where the dangerous enemies are. despite being the same dpad input, “ouch” is NOT a “this way” substitute, and you should avoid/be careful around where an ouch is coming from, not push towards it. If the thing you are ouching about is killed, a “booyah” is a good idea so you can tell your team what you were warning them about is gone. Please do not ouch because you are salty about dying.
The “this way!” ping is generally a callout to push objective or to get support to help clear/take objective.
- In Splat Zones, it’s generally to get help in fights or to get assistance painting zone. Depending on the weapon you play, painting or fighting is more ideal for your role on the team.
- Tower is similar. Either a call to get on tower or get enemies away from tower; sometimes someone will ping it to get you on tower so they can deal with something their weapon is better at doing off the tower.
- Rainmaker has a few uses. Popping shield is the obvious one, if a “this way” is used while both teams are tying to pop, it’s usually a request to help shoot at the shield to pop it (and hopefully paint/kill surrounding stuff in the process). Once the RM is available, people will often “this way” to request that someone else takes it; for example, I’m a Splattershot Jr main, and Jr is basically always dedicated RM carrier so pings are often a request for me to take it. One RM is picked up, THE PING WILL MEAN DIFFERENT THINGS FOR DIFFERENT PLAYERS. Too often a “This way” will be used when there is a clear path for RM to take lead or KO, but the RM player will stop at the pinging players position since they think it’s asking for them to help in a fight. Your job as the RM is to score points, not pick fights!! Your teammates, if they do their jobs, will hear the “this way!” and defend you.
- Clams is the weirdest one. The best strat in clams is to pass clams on to each other to make a ball near the basket, which the enemy team will not see coming since the location marker for clams only happens when you have a football. “This way” CAN be a request to get help in fights and clear a path to the basket but more often is either a signal that someone near the basket is close to a football and needs a last few clams to make it or is safe to jump to for breaking barrier/scoring more points.
That’s just about everything! If people have corrections/input, please do say them in the comments!

the promo inklings (like kaori and john) don't get enough recognition in the fandom unlike the idols like off the hook or deep cut or the agents like agent 3 or 8. , i mean- they are the ones that made splatoon successful in the first place!
