Discussion This is THE BEST IMPROVEMENT I've Ever Made to This SpaceEngine 0.980 Black Hole Shader

Post image
63 Upvotes

I'll do as I always do, I'll mention each improvement and send a image to see how it turned out. Here are the improvements:

Geodesics and integration

  1. Projection of the null condition (GR_NULL_PROJECTION): after each RK4 step, a Newton step returns the photon to the light cone (H = ½ g^μν p_μ p_ν = 0), with correction limited to ~2%. This reduces numerical drift near the horizon and photon ring.
  2. Coordinate time along radius: KerrSchildGeodesicRHS_BL now also returns dT = E + fW, and RK4 integrates tRetard.
  3. Optical Depth Adaptive Step (GRRT_ADAPTIVE_STEP): The step is limited to τ ≈ 0.5, using the opacity per unit step of the previous step. There is a floor of 25% of the original step.
  4. Smaller base step and more steps: h dropped from 0.06 to 0.04 and MAX_STEPS went up from 1000 to 1500.
  5. Jet step limit uses JetEdgeRadius (the actual flux surface), and no longer the fixed formula 4.2 + prog·10.
  6. Step limit on the disk takes into account the extra thickness of the MHD (mhdThickMax) and vertical epicycle frequency (diskVertBoostMax).

Radiative transfer (GRRT)

  1. Exact formal solution per cell: the sequential composition of RadiativeTransferStep and SynchrotronStep has been replaced by GRRTCell (emis, tau). Dust, thermal gas, lines, RIAF and corona sum coefficients in a single cell, solved with I = I₀e^{-τ} + emis·(1-e^{-τ})/τ.
  2. Independence of species order: previously, the outcome depended on who was applied first.
  3. No artificial cutoff of τ: GRRTEscape treats τ→0 by Taylor series.
  4. Jet with own cell: the jet accumulates into jetAccum from an exact cell, with transmFade = topFade.
  5. Calculation of τ per step feeds adaptive step control.

Slow light and clocks

  1. Retarded time (GRRT_SLOW_LIGHT): the plasma (MRI filaments, flux bundles, corona, jet shells) is sampled at the instant it emitted the photon (diskTimeLoc, jetClockLoc), with a safety limit of 400 r_g.
  2. Observer’s proper clock (GR_OBSERVER_CLOCK): ObserverCoordTimeRate applies exact time dilation (1/√(1-f) for static observer, or Kerr-Schild u^t for observer in a fall or ergosphere). diskTimeObs = diskTime · u^t.

Disk: radial profile and structure

  1. Novikov-Thorne/Page-Thorne exact flux (GR_PAGE_THORNE): replaces the Newtonian factor (1-√(r_isco/r))^(1/4). Uses the three roots x₁, x₂, x₃ of x³-3x+2a=0, and the flux goes to zero quadratically in ISCO. It also holds for the jet launch temperature.
  2. Vertical Kerr thickness: H = c_s/Ω_θ, with the vertical Kerr epicycle frequency (KerrVerticalEpicycleRatio).
  3. Magnetic pressure support: H_eff = H·√(1+1/β).
  4. Conserved mass column: The vertical profile is divided by mhdThick·vertBoost, so the extra thickness dilutes the midplane density.
  5. Eddington corrected: EddAccRate is rescaled by the actual radiative efficiency (η of ISCO), and no longer fixed at η = 0.1.
  6. DiskBaseDensity has become a function, and testing baseDens > 0.001 now comes before the expensive parts.

MRI filaments

The entire block of twisted bands, spiral arms, carving and irregularities (A/B, OrbitalInstability) has been removed. In his place came MRIFilaments:

  1. Rings in ln(r) × azimuthal cells, with one independent filament per cell and per generation.
  2. Each filament has its own position, length, thickness, step, lognormal amplitude, turbulent velocity, height and lifetime.
  3. Differential Kerr rotation shears each filament (Lagrangian map).
  4. Epicycles use Kerr κ, which goes to zero in ISCO.
  5. Kinks, breaks, and knots come from a frozen noise field in the fluid frame.
  6. The buoyant rise (Parker) follows the speed of Alfvén.
  7. Collision shock: The velocity dispersion S₀S₂-|S₁|² becomes shock, which increases compression, temperature (MRI_SHOCK_HEAT), and brightness (MRI_SHOCK_LUM).
  8. The width of the radial cell follows the MRI wavelength (Balbus & Hawley).
  9. MRI is suppressed in MAD (vigor) regime.
  10. The temperature and dust derive from the density of the filaments (mriDelta, dustClump).

Plasma state and GRMHD

  1. Synge (Maxwell-Jüttner) EOS for H, He ions and electrons with Tᵢ ≠ Tₑ (SyngeGas, BesselK01Scaled, MHDState). It gives the enthalpy, the adiabatic index (4/3↔5/3), σ_h, the relativistic Alfvén velocity and the fast magnetosonic velocity.
  2. Maxwell-Jüttner entropy and AdiabaticElectronTheta: jet electrons follow the correct adiabatic one.
  3. Disk β (MHDDiskBeta): SANE and MAD states, with β = 120 → 3 in ISCO.
  4. Flux freezing: B ~ ρ^κ.
  5. Reconnection heating: ΔT/T ~ gain·shock/β.
  6. Moscibrodzka Tᵢ/Tₑ(β) ratio (MHDIonElectronRatio).
  7. Non-thermal index p = 1.9 + 0.7/√σ.
  8. Reconnection efficiency σ/(1+σ).
  9. Shock Fermi acceleration suppressed at high σ.
  10. Kruskal-Shafranov criterion for the kink (MHDKinkGate).
  11. Flux bundles (MHDFluxBundles): periodic flares, with low density, heating and higher B, sheared by Keplerian rotation.

Jet power (Blandford-Znajek)

  1. The jetPowerFactor is no longer phenomenological and now comes from MHDBZEfficiency(Ω_H, φ), with φ interpolated between SANE (6) and MAD (50).
  2. Power pulsates with MAD flux eruptions (fluxPulse).
  3. The mass loading μ = Γ(1+σ), velocity and ceiling of Γ derive from σ₀ = η/loading.

Jets (complete rewrite)

  1. Geometry: self-similar flux surfaces r_e = R_b(1+dy/ℓ)^p, with Ψ ~ r^ν(1-cosθ), and spin-dependent base radius (jetBaseRadiusWorld).
  2. Launch: jStart depends on hFactor_pre.
  3. Ferraro Isorotation: Ω_F(λ) falls to the edge, with disk wind beyond it.
  4. Spine structure, sheath and wind (Blandford-Payne).
  5. Poloidal velocity: Γ ~ Ω_F ϖ/c, saturating in μ, in place of the ramp by progress.
  6. JetFlowTime flight time: plasma is sampled at launch instant t₀ = t − τ(dy).
  7. Helical flow tubes (JetFilaments): real streaklines with Ω_i, Alfvén waves, plasmoids and reconnection where they overlap.
  8. Kink m=1 (JetKinkAxis): coherent phase, saturation at a few % of the radius and growth modulated by Kruskal-Shafranov and v_A.
  9. Kelvin-Helmholtz m=2 and m=3 with their own pattern speeds (JetShearRipple).
  10. Ejection shells and internal shocks (JetShells).
  11. Adiabatic temperature: T ∝ n^(Γ-1) with Γ = 5/3, starting from the Novikov-Thorne launch temperature.
  12. Electron temperature preserves Maxwell-Jüttner entropy, in place of CoronaElectronTemperature.
  13. Comoving field: B′ ~ √(σ·n/n_pe).
  14. Field vector geometry: line tilt, B_p ~ 1/r_e² and toroidal winding.
  15. Doppler of the jet separated into toroidal and poloidal part (KerrJetEmitterParts, PhotonNuEmJetParts).
  16. Factor g³ applied explicitly to the thermal source of the jet.
  17. NT_BREMS_GAIN_JET rose from 1e-6 to 0.005.
  18. Jet window: radialNorm ≤ 2.0 (was 1.4) and shorter baseFade (0.6 r_g, was 2).
  19. JET_PEAK fell from 1.0 to 0.85.

Disk emission, RIAF and corona

  1. RIAF/ADAF hot flux: Hot electrons from two temperatures emit thermal and non-thermal synchrotron, plus bremsstrahlung, weighted by riafWeight. There is also Thomson of hot electrons.
  2. Synchrotron with Kirchhoff (HybridSynchrotronKirchhoff): α_ν = j_ν/S_ν, with θ_eff = θₑ for thermal and γ_ν/(p+2) for power law. Replaces the phenomenological coefficient RT_SYN_COEFF on disk.
  3. Comoving step angle (sinTh, MHDPitchSin): relativistic aberration and field transformation. The synchrotron uses B_perp.
  4. Dust opacity with sublimation at actual gas temperature (shocks, reconnection and beams included).
  5. Corona with full MHD: low β, σ_h, p(σ), η by reconnection, flares as current sheets and frozen B.
  6. Corona field with frame dragging at ZAMO: B_φ/B_r = −(Ω_F − ω)ϖ̃/α, with signed Blandford-Znajek Ω_F.

Code and structure

  1. New helpers: hash11, hash43, FBM_SIGMA.
  2. Lots of commented blocks, separating what is exact from what is semi-analytic closure.
  3. Each new GR effect can be turned off by commenting out its #define.

Basically what the title says. It works with other steam games without issue but for SE will only work in windowed mode. Anyone ever have this issue before?

Question Completely black star. How does this exist? And is it potentially a record?

Most red giants have large sun spots. But this one is black everywhere. Yet its supper luminous apparently. It just seemed like a weird object to me, and I wonder if its maybe a record.

i think i installed the game throughout my life like 10 15 times and i keep uninstalling it, i am just afraid to wander through space, if i leave a planet and all i see is black and stars and the galaxy maybe it scares the shit out of me 😭😭😭

anyone else with this ?
