Feature Request: iOS shortcut support for Ace Ultra

I’m loving the Ace Ultra, but I was hoping that I’d be able to control things on my Ace Ultra more with shortcuts. E.g. turning on/off aware mode, or voice boost.

I can then have big buttons as a home screen icon, like I do to connect the Bluetooth.

I realise this is a niche ask, but the more things are added via shortcuts the more folk can make their experience better.

Thanks.

Sonos Ace Ultra Recommendation

• Upvotes

Hey! Im in need of a new pair of headphones, and I'm deciding between the Sonos Ace Ultra, sennheiser momentum 5, or Bose quiet comfort ultra (2nd gen). I watch a good amount of movies and shows, as well as listening to music through the work day.

However, I am not apart of the sonos ecosystem and have no sonos speakers (nor am I in need of the switching feature). Is the Sonos Ace Ultra still worth considering over those other two if I don't plan on using this feature? I love the look and colors of the sonos, but don't want to spend all that money if I'd be better off with one of the other two headphones.

Bought a Certified Refurbished Arc Ultra and got an aesthetically damaged but fully functional unit.

Sonos customer service said I have two options:
- get a replacement unit but I'd lose my money back guarantee for the replacement, if anything was wrong with that
- get a full refund for the item

I would've been happy to just get another refurbished unit. Returning and ordering another one is practically the same thing, so I will do that.

Posting here to ask if this is normally how Sonos handles situations and if anyone else has had issues with Certified Refurbished items.

Deezer - something went wrong, try again

• Upvotes

I’ve been getting this error message for about a week now. I’ve tried disconnecting deezer from Sonos and reconnecting. disconnecting all speakers from the system and reconnecting. deleting Sonos from the list of APIs on deezer and then reconnecting.

has anyone else had a similar problem?

Music Library Issues

Hopefully this group can help. I have used ITunes to catalog my album library. I have imported all the files to a seperate hard drive for Sonos use. All my albums and a seperate folder for album art is on this hard drive. My issue is getting certain albums to show the album art. I have uninstalled the album and reuploaded it. I have attached the album art to the file folder but I'm still getting zero improvement getting the proper cover to show up. Nothing I can think up is working.

Suggestions?

Installing 4 Sonos by Sonance In-Ceiling Speakers in My Kitchen. 6” vs. 8”? Is 4 Overkill?

Hey everyone!

I recently purchased a new home and I’m planning to install four 6-inch Sonos by Sonance in-ceiling speakers in my kitchen, positioned around the island area.

I’ve attached a picture showing my proposed speaker layout and would love to get some feedback before I start cutting holes in my ceiling.

A few questions for those of you who have experience with these speakers:

  1. 6-inch vs. 8-inch: Would the 6-inch speakers provide enough sound and bass for a kitchen, or would you recommend stepping up to the 8-inch models?

  2. Speaker quantity: Is four speakers a good number for this space, or would that be overkill? Would two be sufficient?

  3. Speaker placement: Based on my picture, does the layout make sense for even sound distribution, or would you position them differently?

  4. Overall sound quality: How do you like your Sonance speakers? Any regrets or things you wish you’d done differently?

For context, my kitchen has 10-foot ceilings, and I’m looking for clean, balanced sound with decent bass, primarily for music while cooking, entertaining, or hanging out around the island.

This will be my first experience with Sonance speakers. I’ve always been a Bose guy, but with the new house, I figured I’d try something different and go with a built-in ceiling setup.

I’d really appreciate any advice or recommendations, especially from anyone who has installed these in a similar kitchen layout.

Thanks in advance!

Where to place Era 100s in this room

Looking to create 3x distinct listening areas in my lounge/kitchen/diner. Arc or beam ultra under TV +\- sub, but no surrounds. Tried using Claude and Gemini to come up with ideas on where to place Era 100s, 1 in kitchen and other for dining table, but didn’t seem quite correct.

Is the blue or green speaker positions best, or are there better places people suggest these are located on this floorplan?

Sonos Announcements is now on Android – looking for testers

I can now present Sonos Announcements for Android.

I am looking for testers, so the app can be as good as possible. Google also requires at least 12 testers for 14 days before the app can be released to everyone, so I hope some of you are interested.

It is important that you stay in the test and keep the app until I say so. Otherwise the 14 days may have to start over.

If you don't know the app yet, here is a description:

I am blind, and I made Sonos Announcements.

The idea is simple: when dinner is ready, or you need to reach the others in the house, you can talk directly through your Sonos speakers instead of shouting up the stairs.

You can send messages to all speakers at once or to individual speakers.

The app finds the speakers on your wifi by itself. No extra account is needed, and everything you send stays on your own network.

You send a message by pressing and holding the send button. When you let go, the message is sent.

A short sound plays first so people know a message is coming, and the message is played in your own voice.

By default, the app turns the music down and then back up to the previous volume afterwards. You can switch this off and choose how far it turns down.

You can also set a fixed volume for the message itself, so an important message is heard even if someone has turned a speaker all the way down.

Messages can be up to 5 minutes long.

If you have a Homey Pro, you can also send announcements when you are not at home, using my Homey app: https://homey.app/a/dk.hoffmeyer-net.sonosannouncements

The app is 100 percent free, with no ads and no subscription.

To sign up as a tester, read more here: https://flyveradio.dk/sonos/android.html

I hope you will like it. And if there is anything, just write to me, and I will take a look.

Baby-proofing led to a huge home theater win!

We started baby-proofing the living room last week since our little one is starting to crawl. I was worried about our rear speaker stands getting pulled over and the trailing wires, but my partner came up with a genius solution to integrate them seamlessly into our decor and hide the cables completely.

Multiple Room and/or Surround Sound Recommendations.

So I have a Sonos Beam hooked to the TV. Looking to add a couple speakers for multiple rooms after we moved into a bigger house. As I’m looking around online, I’m coming across different speakers for surround sound, outdoor, travel, etc. Not sure what I’m looking for now!

So I guess I’m asking, what would be the best two speakers I could add that could be used to link up different rooms and then maybe move them into the living room for surround sound on movie night.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Sonos Move acting weird after being left out in the rain

Pretty sure it’s been rained on before, but this time around I could hear water sloshing around inside it.

Between giving it a few good shakes and removing the battery, I’ve gotten out most if not all of the water.

Speaker won’t power up or charge via USB or the OEM charger.

When I took off the battery, there was some blueish build up on one of the connections on the battery and the battery contact on the speaker. Cleaned that off, reattached the battery and still not taking a charge or powering up.

Anyone have similar experience? I don’t mind replacing the battery if that’s the culprit, but don’t want to mess with that if it’s ultimately the speaker itself that’s toast.

Thanks!

Sonos and UniFi - I gave up and SonosNet actually worked!

I've got a fairly large Sonos system, and it's a mix of older products and newer products (all are upgradable to S2, of course) - but I've built it up over the years.

I had tried all sorts of the various suggestions to configure my UniFi network to work better with the Sonos system... I created a 2.4Ghz-only IoT network, went through all the various guides on STP settings (I am a SW engineer with lots of networking experience, so I have a pretty good understanding of these protocols and such) - but I COULD NOT get my system to be stable.

Using Sonos for music became so unreliable I just stopped using it. Grouping rooms would fail 90% of the time, everything was super slow to respond, speakers would drop in and out constantly, music just flat out wouldn't play.

The general recommendation I see everywhere is "do not use SonosNet" - but I decided to give it a shot. One of my Connect units is near my network rack, and so I jacked it into an open Ethernet port, and the system went off and created a new SonosNet. Only a couple devices are still on my regular WiFi (my Sonos Arc Ultra and Surrounds in the living room).

I hate that there's another WiFi network in my house now, but Sonos is back to "just works" status. I can create speaker groups in seconds, and music actually plays and doesn't drop out constantly.

What an infuriating process.

Gnomos: Linux Client für old and new Sonos Speakers (GTK4, GNOME)

Post image
5 Upvotes

Sonos has never made a desktop app for Linux. Instead of waiting any longer, I wrote my own. It's called Gnomos, it's free software under the GPL-3.0, and it runs as a native GTK 4 app on the GNOME desktop.

Demo video (1:34): https://github.com/linuxundich/gnomos/raw/main/screenshots/gnomos-demo.mp4

What it does

  • Now Playing with synced lyrics. Click a line and Gnomos jumps there – handy for skipping straight to the part of the song you actually know the words to. If you miss vinyl, the cover can spin like a record. No getting up to flip it, though.
  • All rooms in one place. See what's playing where, drag one room onto another to group them, and set the volume for every room with one click.
  • Volume in GNOME's Quick Settings. A small Shell extension puts the current room right below the system slider, plus a slider for every other speaker in the house.
  • The whole collection. Music shares, Sonos favorites, playlists, internet radio, linked services like Spotify, the queue and alarms.
  • Mini player for the corner of your screen. Media keys, lock screen and GNOME's media controls just work.

Gnomos talks to the speakers directly over your home network. No Sonos account, no cloud, no login. Lyrics and artist photos are the only things it looks up on the internet, and both are off until you switch them on.

And the part this sub might like best: Gnomos still works with the old S1 hardware – ZP80, ZP90, ZP100, ZP120 and even the CR100. You know, the ones the current Sonos app pretends never existed.

Install

There's a Flatpak bundle on the GitHub releases page, plus a .deb for Debian testing. Flathub is planned.

One lesson from testing, free of charge: "Play All" replaces the queue of the selected room. My living room learned that the hard way, and the queue never came back.

Bugs and ideas are very welcome as issues on GitHub. Which features are you missing?

Disclaimer: Gnomos was developed with AI assistance.

Sonos UK BBC Sounds Voice Control problem

Upgrade from the Amp

I currently run a Sonos Amp with two B&W 707s3, and two Era 100 for my Home Theater setup. Overall the system is fantastic and I am really happy with the sound quality from the B&Ws for music and the Sonos surround for HT listening purposes. Also I listen to a lot of multichannel audio (mainly ripped SACDs). One thing that bugs me is that the Amp does not play multichannel LPCM or ATMOS, so in order to play multichannel audio I have to convert FLAC to AC3. Caldera and AppleTV work beautifully for this purpose. ATMOS of course is a miss.

I know that these functions are available on the ARC, but I can’t stand soundbars, I find the lack of separation and soundstage unbearable. I won’t cough up this amount of money for such a compromised setup.

A new AMP than can play LPCM and ATMOS would be great, also it would be great if it could use Era 300s as surrounds for the upper channels. I guess this should be technically possible since Era 300 can play ATMOS on its own.

What do you guys think about this? Is there a chance that Sonos will offer such an upgraded product?

The Amp is quite old now and due for an upgrade, I don’t think the above is too much to ask.

Free Android app streams phone audio to Sonos over Wi-Fi

Tired of the Sonos app not supporting every app? My Play:1 lacks Bluetooth, AirPlay, and line-in, so I built Sunus to stream any phone audio losslessly to Sonos—no extra hardware or computer needed.

Two modes:

Standard: No setup, uses Android’s normal capture. Some apps (Netflix, Audible) block it.

All apps: Captures everything, including blocked apps. Requires one-time Wireless Debugging pairing (Android 12+), no root, no PC.

—ideal for music, not for video sync.

Free, open-source (MIT), no ads, no account. APK:

github.com/tomkainz/sunus

Built with AI help. Beta version, tested on Android 17 with Play:1 (S2). Feedback and bug reports welcome.

Stereo sounds better than 5.1/Auto from Apple TV?

Hi I had my gears as Beam gen2, era 100x2, sub mini. It is connect to tv via eARC. Then apple tv is connected to tv.

So, I have always been listening via Auto, which from Sonos app it is always as Dolby ATmos. Until today, I found out another issue about HiRes doesn’t make a sound anymore with the Apple TV os update (just my guess.). Then I switched the Apple TV audio setting to Stereo. Oh, my, god. It is louder, clearer, powerful, with both eras fully integrated as a whole, where they always sounds small.

Has anyone else had such feelings about it? Now I really want Apple to support audio type controlled by apps. I would let my Apple Music to be on stereo while movies probably stay in Dolby.

Sonos - convenience but compromise- the battle of the mids

Sonos is easy to setup. But I think I am too much of an audiophile to accept its limitations.

Bought an Arc 2 years ago. Not impressed with music at all. Better for surround in my bedroom, but living room weak.

Besides to trying an improve - adding 100s, 300s, a mini and a full sub to try stuff out.

Surround for bedroom - mid. I think the limitation of having bed against wall combined with an irregular bedroom smoked me. No matter what direction, height, trueplay, no trueplay. Even moved bed 1 ft from wall.

Music in bedroom - poor. 2.1 system blows it away.

Why can’t they offer Arc, surround and Sonos amp that has two fronts and a sub of my choice? Arc could be center and height and disable when music is played and use Fronts and sub to could make a 2.1 system. For movies - Arc for center and height, fronts and my sub on Amp, and surrounds. Boom.

A 7.2.2 system could do best of both words and cost less. Until Sonos figures above out, it’s inferior.

Wish there was a wooden option

Thats really it. I love my Sonos but sometimes also miss wooden speakers. Yeah I know about using an amp and all that but I wish at least something like the 100's had 'shells' that could be changed out and one of those was a wooden option.

what am i doing wrong here

Post image
1 Upvotes

i’ve had a arc, sub, and two surrounds for years. all of a sudden i’m having problems with connecting to them via airplay. right now all my speakers are working off of my tv. when i go into the sonos app, it says i need to find a system, when i try to do so, it connects shows all my products, plays the chime to connect. and after, i get the same screen that says i need to find my system??? here and there i can get airplay too work. but i’ve fully reset to the orange light and adopted all my speakers multiple times and after a few weeks it completely disconnects from the app.
