Captains Chair needs an Orville version!!

I just discovered this amazing show (The Orville) and as a huge Star Trek fan I have to say it’s some of the best damn Star Trek that never was Star Trek. Watching it and loving Captain’s Chair so much, I’d love to see Wizkids license this and make a special expansion to include Ed Mercer (Captain Mercer) in the game and include all of the cast too. Has there ever been any talk of this? David Turczi you must know! 😁

Aliens: Another Glorious Day in the Corps - Zombicide with aliens and a lot of theme

Tactical cooperative game based on Aliens movies, where you control squad of colonial marines and complete various missions - either in campaign mode or as oneshots.

No matter the mission, you always face swarm of aliens - really hordes of them, Zombicide style. However they get deployed as hidden signal tokens, and you get to know how many of them are in this swarm, only when it enters your line of sight. It is thematic and adds a lot of tension: how many enemies are lurking behind the corner?..

By the way, while aliens miniatures look cool, they require assembly, and are fragile, tails especiall prone to breaking. I would prefer much standard plastic minis instead.

Core gameplay is very simple: your characters can move, shoot, interact, rest and build barricades. Most of them time you just move and shoot. When shooting, you roll d10, and hit if result is lower than your character`s accuracy. Which lowers each time you shoot, and recovers only next turn - another thematic touch.

It might seem that picking (there are characters with various abilities and weapons to choose from) guns which can shoot a lot of times, like smartgun, is the best option, however each shot also discards a card from endurance deck. It has a lot of useful items, harmful events, etc, and also serves as common hp pool: if you run out of it, you lose. This way stronger weapons are balanced.

Speaking of hp, aliens do not have them: 1 hit = dead alien. Do not worry though, game is far from easy as there are always a lot of his brothers around to replace him. And marines have just as much health: 1 hit = downed marine, and if it starts alien turn next to aliens, he gets dragged away. Hopefully you will be able to do rescue mission and save him, if you play campaign mode, otherwise tough luck.

So as you can see, game is really thematic, which I appreciate. You really feel like in action movie, running and gunning horde of aliens.

On the other hand, game is really simple, perhaps even primitive. There is not a lot of tactics: you mostly just shoot whoever you can. Some positioning is possible - so that aliens face your overhelming firepower from optimal position, and you need to be somewhat careful about running out of cards, but overall Aliens are not much different from Zombicide in terms of depth. It is very random (so dice dependent) as well, and there are a lot of minis to manage, place and remove, too.

So if you want really thematic coop, or you are fan of the movie, this is a great choice. If you want more or less deep tactical shooter, better to look for something like Galaxy Defenders or Fireteam Zero, etc.

P.S. As for solo, sadly you still have to control 6 marines. Yes, you can replace most of them with grunts - simplified versions - but that`s still a lot of characters to manage. Too much, imho.

Tool to cut off counters?

Hello everyone.

Is there any tool commonly used to cut off card counters without leaving loose bits from the “factory” sheets, or anything that cuts will do?

Thanks.

How often are you playing your medium to heavy games with zero rule mistakes?

I have recently been playing Fate of the Fellowship, Final Girl, Deckers, and 20 Strong. I love each of the games, but can't seem to play through a single game without making at least one minor rule mistake (or worse). Whether it's forgetting to panic victims in Final Girl, not preparing correctly in Fate of the Fellowship, or not spawning a spark token in Deckers, I seem to always catch myself having to backtrack or otherwise make corrections, and that's even when I catch the mistake. Who knows how many I am missing. I even frequently read through threads addressing "commonly missed rules" so I can keep it to a minimum. That makes me wonder, are most solo board gamers making regular rule mistakes or is this a problem unique to me?

I need help deciding if Runebound 3rd ed with all exps is worth paying $400

So Im on the fence about paying $400. The only game I have played, and I really like, that I would say looks similar is elder scrolls:BOTSE. I want a simple exploration rpg like game without a campaign and Runebound seems perfect but is expensive.

Has anyone payed a lot for their Runebound 3rd ed and was it worth it or anyone that has Runebound 3rd ed and thinks its worth paying $400 for the complete 3rd ed?

Im also looking at Euthia Torment of Resurrection with the firce powers expansion, if anyone can weigh in on if Euthia would be the better choice.

Games that make you think/feel like in Voidfall

I love Voidfall, all the crunchy decisions, the tactical and strategy, having an overall goal but having to adapt each turn, it is my top one right now

BUT I think I played two or three times this year, the long setup, not having a gaming table to leave it there, and the mental and time space that I have to allocate in the day, makes it harder to table it.

So I was thinking of maybe selling it to buy another game, but what can scratch the same itch, but with less setup? I don't mind a around two hour playtime

I have MK and Spirit Island already, Voidfall for me is the big Euro. Gaia project and Civolution come to mind, but I don't feel my mind burning with options in Gaia. Anyway, what do you suggest?

Gaia Project, for me, the best Board Game ever made.

Just wanted to share my solo session of today. I've been beaten by the game a couple of times this week, but tonight was finally my night. The game did have a very unfortunate order of automa cards along the way, but I've done a good job overall that I believe I would've beaten the game anyway.

I love this game so much. A 10/10, an 11/10 if possible. Winning or losing this game gets all my gears grinding and my hormones all balanced out at the end of each session 😂, solo or with others.

For the Gaia Project heads among us, here is a fun question, I am the gleens (yellow), I scored 186 to 101, however, I need a points deduction for added points that I shouldnt have been able to get. How many and why? (Not too hard if you know the rules of the game).

Recommendations for a solo bg newb who loves Marvel Champions

I’m sure these posts are very common so apologies in advance but I’m looking for recommendations on my next board game.

I currently own Marvel Champions, Final girl, Nemesis and Spirit Island. I’ve struggled to get into SI (feels a bit anti climatic when I win) and Nemesis is great but better with friends.

I’ve thought about Arkham Horror the card game. Also curious about an engine builder but unsure on which to try.

Any recommendations are welcome and appreciated 😊

Game with a sandbox feel that plays up to an hour

Hello

I am looking for a game that:

- you can play up to an hour

- give you a sandbox feeling (hour limit is tough so I am not going to be picky here)

- relaxing / cozy feeling

And that's basically it. I'd like a game I could play every evening and "today I try this and that" going into the game.

Thank you in advance

Welp, I like this game but, I am very bad at it.. similar to Spirit Island I cannot get the jump on what's coming and play the right things. The more I play it though the more I understand how to do things. Didn't help I ended up with a guardian on my home from failing Silver Nueral Maxtrix...oof.

What were people's Top 20 for BGG People's Choice?

Would just love to see people's rankings! Here are mine:

  1. Arkham Horror LCG
  2. Terraforming Mars
  3. Spirit Island
  4. Ark Nova
  5. Eldritch Horror
  6. Marvel Champions
  7. Nusfjord
  8. Lost Ruins of Arnak
  9. Final Girl
  10. Fliptown
  11. Star Trek Captain's Chair (base/Boldy Go)
  12. Feast For Odin
  13. That's Pretty Clever
  14. The Anarchy
  15. Welcome To
  16. SETI (w/Space Agencies)
  17. Andromeda's Edge
  18. Fantastic Factories
  19. Tales From Red Dragon Inn
  20. Three Sisters

New Additions:

  • Nusfjord: Super tight worker placement with little randomness in under 30 minutes. Amazing.
  • Captain's Chair: Met the hype, improves and streamlines the Imperium system in every way, and I actively dislike Star Trek haha. About 20 plays in, I've used only 3 of the 10 captains so far...unbelievable value.
  • SETI: I've got about 20 plays since Februrary, and I've only covered half the agencies and half the aliens. Insanely variety.

Risers:

  • Andromeda's Edge: Another 12/15 plays this year with more factions and improved strategy. When Genesys finally gets here, I'm confident this will probably go up even more.

Fallers:

  • That's Pretty Clever: I literally have hundreds of plays on this with the ap, and it just doesn't hold up as much as the games before it anymore.
  • Fantastic Factories: Maybe because I played it SO much the previous 2 years I got a little burnt out, there are better engine builders out there.
  • Tales From Red Dragon Inn: 3/4 of the way through and haven't played it at all the last 9 months, and while I love the system, am getting a little tired of dungeon crawlers.

Dropped Out:

  • Oathsworn: This was top 15 when I first got it. I got to Chapter 19, but it got too repetitive and stupidly difficult by just increasing the chances of failure. Wish it was shorter and more replayable.
  • Viticulture: Being way too reliant on random card draw just got to me too much.
  • Age of Civilization: I still love this game, but other more complex and involved games moved it out.

Post yours everyone!

Star Trek Captain's Chair (Almost) everything in one box

Got an insert with dividers for all 3 games and managed to fit everything but the player boards in the core box. The player boards I Keep in the Second Contact box along with the extra bases for the standees, of which I kept 20 in the core box hoping I won't need more but they're there if I do. I put the Second contact behind the core box on the shelf, next to my Imperium collection, all actually in one box. Duplicate pieces are still in the To Boldly Go box which will probably end up in the closet. Don't know if I'm allowed to link to the insert/dividers but you can find them on etsy. Its the wooden one.

Captain's Chair

Same as many of you I have been playing this a lot. I will forgo talking about how incredible it is, there are a lot of posts about that. Can those of you that have bought Second Contact comment on it? Does it add a lot of variety? It looked like it was 3 captains and some extra cards for the market. Thanks in advance.
