Seeking Advice Help me choose!!

Hi all
I got accepted into Ithaca online, Emerson, and Baylor for Spring 2027. There’s big differences in cost. Ithaca is by far the cheapest, and I know it’s kinda the consensus to choose the cheapest school. I love the idea of Baylor, but it’s the most expensive of them all. My other option is to apply to SJSU for fall 2027. I’m just torn. I was hoping anyone who has gone to either Ithaca, Emerson or Baylor (even SJSU) can chime in. I’m particularly interested in the medical side of the field but I’m not sure that matters.

Thank you!!

letters are triggering my cortisol levels

ooh guys i'm so stresssed!
all my prerequisite courses have been online, so forming a connection with professors have been a struggle. beginning of summer and fall semesters, i set up zoom meetings with one and got close enough to ask for a letter but she hasn't responded to my emails..

how important are letters?? i have two people secured.. one is an slp i know and shadowed for and the other is my boss from my undergraduate student assistant job!

if only i could have one from a prof.. everything would be less stressful.

need ease of mind! thanks guys and good luck to everyone applying.

Personal Statement Help/possible resources for answering program statements.

For anyone currently applying or past applicants for the SLP programs did you use any resources to help you look over writing statement of purpose for your grad programs. I don't mean like an AI tool but more like an in person tool like a resource in your school or anyone online that can look over them. I was planning to ask other friends who are also applying/ friends in general but I'm not sure how to go about it especially since I want my statements to stand out and try to get them to stay on topic.

CSDCAS application

Hello

i just submitted my applications for the fall of 27 and my application is already verfied. Im nervous becuase a school reached out to me asking for my offical transcript for my in-progress classes, even though i had sent my transcript to CSDCAS. My letter of recs also havent been sent in yet. so im a little nervous i submitted everything to early but i was granted a fee waiver and had to turn everything with the 15 days of reacieving the waiver. this is also my frist time applying to speech grad schools so the process if very confusing. I applied to 9 schools in total and am super excited for this new chapter, any thought's on the process would be supper helpful!!! thanks

Question/feedback about a program AUS SLPs: bachelors vs masters

I’ve been accepted into both Bachelor of speech and Master of speech and I don’t know which to choose!

The Masters seems more logical since I’ve already done a bachelors in Medical Science and I’ll be working full time in 2 years instead of 4, but I’m worried that the workload will be way too intense for me!

I’m grateful to still be living at home so I do have a lot of support from them, can work part time, I’m not a parent etc… but is the Masters not going to prepare me as well for working as the slower paced Bachelors?

Any advice appreciated!!

3rd internship at a children’s hospital?

I keep getting mixed messages from current SLPs. Some tell me I NEED to do an extra internship at a children’s hospital to have a chance at getting a CF or job at a children’s hospital or working with peds/infants. But others tell me that as long as I do a good amount of observations and know my stuff, I’ll be fine. Anyone have any insight? I’m afraid doing a 3rd internship will cause major burnout and I also have a possibility of moving so it would be a challenge to get a 3rd one in a diff. state and still work with my university over the summer. (hopefully that makes sense)

Help! Out of field applicant

Hello everyone! I graduated with a bachelor’s of Music in Voice in 2025 and I want to pivot to the field of SLP because I want to help people directly. I graduated with a 3.9 GPA. I’m also in Texas. I’m really interested in becoming a Voice specialized SLP.

Because I am an out of field applicant, do you recommend shadowing and SLP before applying to grad school? How does one go about doing this, especially since I’m not a CSD student currently?

Does anyone recommend becoming an SLPA prior to applying to grad school?

What are the chances I even get into grad school without a bachelors in CSD?

Is the field of Voice SLP niche? Does it matter what school I attend?

Sorry I ask a lot of questions!
I appreciate your time!!

Dalhousie SLP Program

I wanted to see if anyone who has had success getting into Dalhousie’s SLP program could shed light on what they believed helped with their application.

This will be my second time applying and I *really* want to give it my best shot. I know the program is extremely competitive and I believe being an out of province applicant does not help.. but if anyone has any input on what their experience has been like and comfortable sharing what they believed worked for them, I would be grateful! Ive been staring at my portfolio dissecting all the things that I need to work on!

Personal Statement Personal statement advice for someone who is not passionate about the field (yet)

Look, I am a decent student. I have an out of field undergrad degree, received a few academic/research awards, & I have a great work ethic. I’ve shadowed/volunteered with SLPs & have been a patient myself more recently. Currently I am taking a couple of leveling courses that I am doing well in so far. It has been 7 years since I graduated and I haven’t worked (besides babysitting/volunteering) in several years due to raising my family.

I want to go into the field because 1) I think it’s interesting (& it COULD be something I develop a passion for) & 2) I love the that SLPs have the opportunity to work in different environments. Job security and a flexible schedule is also a big plus for me.

How would I even structure my personal statement?! I believe I have the personality and work ethic for this field but I don’t even know what to talk about… I’ve seen posts about not talking about personal stories on the personal statement so I feel even more stumped now.

Any guidance would be much appreciated!!

UFT SLP masters application advice?

Hey yall! I'm kinda new to the reddit posting thing but I honestly have been having some anxiety about grad school applications as I'm coming to the end of my bachlors, and wanted to see if anyone had any advice.

Basically, I'm currently in school in Toronto studying Psychology, and have been working towards applying to an SLP masters program. Ideally, i'd like to go to UFT but im not closed minded, as the career is really my end goal. So far, I have all of the course requirements and their respective grade requirements, and Im working toward increasing my GPA in my last two semesters for applications (currently at a 3.1). I did research this past summer in a cognitive hearing lab, but other than that theres not really much else to bring to the table other than my enthusiasm about the career and other social clubs I've been a part of (like theatre groups and such). Im not really sure if its realistic that I have a fair shot at applying, because everything I've researched about other applicants shows a plethora of involved clinical or research experience that I lack, but I wanted to get outsider opinion.

I truly don't know much about grad school or the application process/expectations since I can't really turn to family for advice. This is something I really want to work towards, so any advice or guidance would be endlessly appreciated!

Csdcas help!

Long story short:

I already submitted everything to one program on CSDCAS. Today, I added a new program to apply to. I just want to double check that because I have submitted my transcripts, evaluations, everything like that into CSDCAS, it automatically is sent to that new program added as well? On my end, it is showing that all of that is complete, but I just am not sure if that’s for both program or just the one I’ve already submitted. Am I stupid lol! I’m nervous!

ACU SLP Application Timeline?

Hello everyone,
I took some time off to gain experience as an SLP-A and improve my GPA and now, I’m back on CSDCAS submitting applications. I recently submitted my application for ACU Online (Abilene Christian University) for spring 27 and I wanted to know what was the application process timeline? Did you have to do an interview? Did it take the entire 6/7 weeks to find out?

Master of Speech Pathology AUSTRALIA - Latrobe or Fed Uni?

Hi everyone!

I’ve received offers for the Master of Speech Pathology at both La Trobe and Federation University for 2027. I’ve been offered a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) at Federation but a full-fee paying place at La Trobe.

I’m struggling to decide between the two and would love to hear from current students or graduates about their experiences!

Is La Trobe worth the significantly higher fees or would you recommend Federation?

Any advice would be really appreciated! 🫶🏽

Speech language pathologist master program

Hello everyone! I am trying to figure out what schools are good for a speech-language pathologist program. For anyone who is in the grad program for SLP how is it? I’ve been looking at programs in Texas. That offers a 3-year program because my undergrad was in public health with a minor in psychology. So I know I will have to take some prerequisites, and I rather do a 3-year direct, instead of separated.

Changing Fields I’m a teacher. I took the leveling classes, but I’m afraid I won’t get in.

Hello! I drank and partied a lot during my undergrad, but it was 10 years ago. I majored in history and my graduating gpa was 2.0. I took leveling courses about 5 years ago and I had a 3.6 gpa in that. I’ve been teaching for about 3 months and I hate it. I subbed for 7 years though, and I genuinely thought I would want my own class. I don’t. I hate this job and I am looking back into SLP school. I am in a masters program for teaching and I’m almost done.

How can I boost my application?

I live in California, if that helps.

Seeking Advice Letters of Recommendation

I have currently asked two professors for a letter of recommendation, but I am struggling on who to ask for the third. I am considering asking my manager, as I have worked at the same job for the past four years, but I am not sure. I know she would write a positive one, but I’m just not sure if a school would care about my ability to work in the service industry…or maybe they would. Who knows?

Please give me advice. I do have another professor I could ask. She is my advisor but I did not really nurture that relationship compared to the ones I have with my other professors.

Rant/Vent Grad school. Burnt out. Stuck. Unsure.

I’m 2 months into my intermediate practicum and I feel like Im running on fumes. I feel so unmotivated and stupid (for lack of a better term). Trying to diagnose and treat 4 clients while taking 3 classes feels daunting. I’m filled with dread when it comes time for session planning and goal writing bc I genuinely don’t know what I’m doing. My beginning practicum was in /r/ remediation so I had similar goals, and plans for my 2 clients each week. Having language and other artic goals to work on is a different experience and it’s boggling my mind. I just want what’s best for my clients but I feel too incompetent. I know I have the rest of the semester ahead of me but I keep thinking that I should just quit. And I won’t quit bc this was too much money down the drain but that’s where my head is at. I’ve heard that it gets better after graduation, but I’m not sure about that if the caseload is only going to get higher from here. Does it get better? Are there any practicing SLPs reading this that felt this way in grad school?

Seeking Advice Undergrad question

I’m currently an undergraduate student at a university in Michigan looking to get into the communication science and disorders program but I haven’t had a good start with college due to finances and other personal reasons. I’m not confident I’ll get into the program and was wondering if it would be likely that I could get into a decent grad program if I did an online bachelors. I want to specifically get a bachelors in ‘slp’ (different schools call it different things) as I know for a fact that this is what I want to do and don’t want to do a post bacc or any other extra credits due to finances.

I would be extra interested in knowing if anyone got into Wayne States program with an online bacc!!

Extra info, I first started with business and messed those grades up but will obviously not be retaking the classes so they will be hurting my cumulative grade and I’m also only doing an average job with my science prerequisites

CSUSM SLP Prep Program Masters Programs

Hi everyone I took the csusm slp prep program at csusm and was wondering where everyone applied to for a masters program after taking the program? It’s hard to gauge what courses are required for what program when all courses have different names.

SLPA or just leveling classes to apply to grad school?

First time posting, but I've been lurking here for a while.

For reference, I live in the SF Bay Area and (ideally) want to attend a state school in person for my master's without moving. From what I've seen, there are 4 options in my area: SFSU, CSUEB, SJSU, and Sacramento State. The commute for me to any of these schools is around 1-1.5 hours based on my location.

Like many posters in this subreddit, I completed my undergraduate degree in a major unrelated to SLP/CD; therefore, I'm exploring my options for entering grad school. I've already spoken with my top school (SFSU) about leveling classes, which I can take in person on their campus while also volunteering in their research labs, and I have an off-campus opportunity to gain observational hours through an acquaintance. However, I've also looked at becoming an SLPA first, then potentially working while completing my leveling classes. This has led me to ask the following:

1) Although my undergraduate GPAs are relatively high (3.83), from what I've read in this thread, I don't think I'd be a competitive applicant for a 3-year extended/bridge program. SFSU also does not offer a bridge. If I can maintain or surpass this GPA, would completing all my leveling classes in person and getting a year's worth of research experience be (generally) enough to make me a competitive applicant for a 2-year MS program? Or is this simply naive/wishful thinking?

2) Is professional experience in the field valued more than volunteer experience through research labs when applying to 2-year MS programs? Or does this simply depend on the school?

Thank you to anyone who replies and to everyone who participates in this subreddit. It's truly a wealth of knowledge and has helped me immensely as I navigate all of this.

Seeking Advice Not sure if I should Apply

I’m 21F and I’m in my senior year of undergrad pursuing a degree in early childhood education. I came to school majoring in CSD, but my freshman year I faced some mental health challenges and decided to switch to a major I thought would be easier. I also didn’t know if it was something I was actually interested in and kind of majored in CSD on a whim. However, after shadowing several different SLPs and completing a practicum to get my SLPA certification, I really fell in love with the field. I’m just worried because my grades are really not great. I have an overall 3.01 at the moment (but I’m on track to bring it up this semester) and my CSD grade is lower, around a 2.75. I have all but 2 prerequisites done for grad school. I was thinking of taking an extra semester to retake a bunch of classes, but I don’t know if that’s a waste of money or not. Even if I somehow get into grad school, I really don’t thrive in an academic environment and it may be too much for me. I think I’m going to take a gap year or two before even applying, but it’s just been on my mind.
