Two great shortwave receivers from the 1970s

Kenwood R-820 and Yaesu FR-101S. Neither are general coverage, but both are solid state, easy to use, built like tanks, and great performers even by today's standards. Hats off to the engineers who could design rigs like these using the technology that existed 50+ years ago.

What station do you miss the most that's no longer on shortwave?
The one you'd give anything to hear one more time — name it 👇

Living in a condo environment with my active antennas indoors in the best quiet location indoors can offer. Went through the RFI sleuthing process and its not coming from my unit. Only happens at night. Community has night lights and power lines 200 feet from the radio room. From the screenshots. What insight can you offer.

Question for the night owls — what’s your “white whale” right now?

Mine is Oman on 11,800 kHz. I can get it here in Arizona around 03:15 UTC at S5 on my MLite 880 + loop + preamp, but only when 60m noise drops after 02:30 UTC. Some nights it's there, some nights it's just static.
We all have that one station we know we can hear but can't quite lock in clean.
What's yours right now? Drop the kHz and what time UTC you're trying.
I post my nightly logs with S-meters from San Tan Valley on my page (HQshortwaveradio) if anyone wants to compare notes — trying to figure out if it's just my terrain or if conditions are weird for everyone this week.

New to shortwave listening, is this actually a transmission from Turkey?

Decided to take the radio out while camping in Oklahoma and caught this. Is it really from Turkey?

Sorry I keep pressing buttons, I just bought the radio so I'm still figuring out what makes it sound the best.

My grandmas car has LW

Just found out this cool fact, I passed my driving license and she borrowed me her car for this week and while skimming through the modes of the radio to find Bluetooth, I saw that it has Long Wave. I listened to two guys who are Moroccan/Algerians that and they maybe live in France?

They talked in a mix of Arabic (maybe Berber or whatever the dialect is called) and French. I picked that up because they called each other „khoya“ and talked about something including the word „Algerie“, so Algeria. Pretty cool stuff. It’s a Renault twingo from 2010ish I believe

Discussion AMNVOLT V4 SI4732 and MLA-30+

Hello everyone,

new to shortwave listening. My primary goal is to try listening to international radio stations broadcast via shortwave (but also, potentially, other waves as well, so that the learning process can continue). After doing some research, I purchased the following two products, aiming to put together a basic, budget-friendly setup.

- Receiver: AMNVOLT V4 SI4732

- Antenna: MLA-30+

Briefly after purchase, I found out that some online sources suggest that the receiver and the antenna might not be compatible. Many others, in contrast, claim they are. As a beginner, I don’t yet have the expertise to evaluate these technical conflicting opinions; could someone with more experience help me out (and perhaps offer some advice on how to get this setup working)?

Thank you very much in advance for your time!
