I just watched shameless for the first time and while there was a lot I predicted correctly about what was going to happen, this is one part i got wrong.
I thought they were gonna move in together and “be a family” cause thats what Debbie wanted. Even if the young homeless woman couldn’t afford an apartment, Debbie was going to get a place for just her and Franny anyway, so she could have offered them to stay with her for free until she had enough or even just as a trial run to take them off the streets for a few nights. The only downside would be her history with drugs but Franny is left alone with Frank a decent amount anyways.
But i guess if that happened Debbie wouldn’t have been able to throw a huge fit over it , what can you do. Writers probs did this on purpose for the irony

I’m not sure if this is a hot take or if lots of other people have thought this, but I’m watching Shameless for the first time in my life with my girlfriend and I’m a bit confused.
From the first time Mickey and Ian had sex, my girlfriend was so giddy and excited and kept telling me that Mickey and Ian are “her favorite couple in the show.” And I’ve heard A LOT of fans echo that same idea. I think a very large majority of fans of the show would also say that they love them together.
However, from my point of view, they seem like one of the most toxic and physically and mentally abusive relationships that I’ve ever seen on Television. Ian forces Mickey to come out in a public space full of violent homophobic people. This is reckless and also very fucked up. Then, we have the fact that Mickey was raised by Terry who is a literal Nazi. I would hope that Mickey rejects a lot of that ideology but I feel like it’s safe to say that Mickey likely holds some racist views. This combined with the fact that they both frequently cheat on other as a means to make the other person jealous and thus get what they want which is obviously toxic behavior.
But the worst part by far is how often they beat each other. Literally every other episode they get into a legitimate fist fight. But just because they’re two men physical abuse is okay? When Ian didn’t want to sign marriage papers so Mickey punched him in the face it’s supposed to be seen as a normal couple argument? If Sean or Gus had punched Fiona in the face and knocked her down a flight of stairs I don’t think people would romanticize their relationship, so why is it okay when Mickey and Ian beat each other constantly?
I understand that the show is meant to display the raw and often cruel world that we all have the displeasure of inhabiting, but I can’t for the life of me understand why Mickey and Ian are so loved as a couple. I really like both characters as individuals but as a couple, they are so grossly toxic, abusive, and manipulative towards each other.

spoiler for the end
i feel really bad for liam because with frank dying at the end, and everyone moving on from the gallagher house, hes all alone. my heart was aching for him when he thought his siblings were going to leave him to be homeless! theyre all terrible for not checking up on him, no one even cared about him enough to see that he was gone for days at the end of s9. seeing the kid feeling lonely like that was so sad

Genuine question, if u HAD to date someone from shameless. Who would you date?
Personally I’d choose lip, not because I think he’s a good boyfriend or that the relationship would end up well. But because I have had the biggest crush on him since high school. Terrible reason, but it’s my reason.

Curious to see what the internet thinks.
Lip becoming a sober dad
Or Carl going from sociopath to cop.

Holy shit. I just finished season 9 episode 3 and OMG. I almost cried. What Lip did for Xan was beautiful. And even though it tore him up, he gave her neck to her mom AND gave her mom that money. It killed me when he threw the money down and ran off at but that was so sweet of Lip. I know people say he gets worse, but I'm talking about this storyline. He cared for her and was ready to adopt her and he gave her up because he saw how happy she was to be with her mom. Her mom might not have been the best but she loves her, and that's clear. This was such an adorable thing to include and I'm so happy they put this storyline in! Ik it wasn't long but it was amazing! It truly shows how kind Lip can be and I appreciate the writers for this. THIS is the Lip I love.

No hate to the brits, but the original show just doesnt have the energy and charisma US has
The acting is better in US, the production value is better in US, even the music is better
I'm not an American btw do this is on some neutral shi

i know this might be cuz of the writers' pettiness to not mention fiona, but lip and debbie were literally trying to act like they were fiona and it was pissing me off so bad. first of all, yes i know debbie was doing the bill stuff and doing things around the house, but she in no way at all was sacrificing anything the way fiona had to. she didnt have to work multiple jobs and take care of 5 kids. she had one kid and she basically ignored liam cuz he was older ( but he was still a kid!). now lip, he was so annoying because he was acting like he did so much for that family when he didnt even live in that house for majority of s11. he wasnt there at all for liam until the last moments. he didnt even do anything remotely fiona-like for the family. debbie did more than he did, and yet he had the nerve to be bossy about selling the house

the only pretty gf he had in my opnion was kassidi, i liked them together but she wasnt really nice
im not shipping mandy and carl obviously, she was already dating lip when carl was 9 i guess

Does Veronica ever love her twins? Was she resentful towards them? I'm currently on season 5 ep 5 and Kevin got a handy that she asked him to do, he comes home they talk and she gave him an ultimatum to choose between her and the twins. I guess I just want to discuss your guy's thoughts.

Upon rewatching, I realized Shameless is a lot smarter than I gave it credit for. Since I know some of you guys have seen the show multiple times, are there details that stuck out to you or changed your perspective of the show/characters?
Personally I enjoy analyzing TV from a literary/psychological standpoint, so I wrote down some of my observations below. It’s a bit of a long read, but I’d love to hear your thoughts:

Kelly was the greatest thing to happen to Carl and Debbie, stupid bitch that she is, is really fucking that up. She should be helping her brother get back with Kelly, but instead she’s having the time of her life with Kelly being friends. Obviously she’s in love with her, but that’s still fucked up what she’s doing. I’m on season 9 EP 12. She’s such a bitch for what she’s doing with Kelly against Carl.

My boyfriend and i finished watching shameless on Thursday night.
yes i cried, also idk how i feel about it because i just expected a little…. more? More ends not left to interpretation i suppose
Idk i just feel like it was abrupt.
Thoughts?
- Debbie can go fuck, I don’t even know where to start with her.
- I still love Lip Ian Mickey
- Liam 🥹 as someone who was adopted by a white family, I was v unhappy with everyone “you’re a Gallagher” 😒 when he was basically begging for someone to help him learn more about being black. abut it was v sweet how he was the only one who was trying to stay close to frank
Kev and V- Happy for their asses

It was really frustrating that sammi was being a butt to everybody but Fiona never did anything, I expected her to go crazy on her or smth, especially since she had a gun n stuff. I just don’t get it.

So I'm re-watching Season 6 now and I remembered just how much I hated Sean. I find him the most irritating out of all of Fiona's boyfriends.
When I first started engaging with the fandom on Reddit and TikTok, I was shocked to see how many people disliked Jimmy-Steve. It's strange to me because I find him very entertaining to watch and I think he was the right guy for Fiona. They have a lot of chemistry and he fits really well with the Gallagher family.
Most of her other boyfriends I find boring. Tony, Adam, Craig, Richard, Mike, Gus - all of them are "nice" but boring and I can't see them fitting in Fiona's world or with her character. I hate Robbie but then again I also understand why she cheated on Mike with him and I think she is entirely responsible for her bad choices in Season 4.
Anyway, when it comes to Sean, I just find him so annoying and frustrating. Like, I genuinely dispise him and I think he deserves far more hate than he gets.
He's 20 years older than Fiona and he's essentially looking for a caregiver and a saviour. He's an addict and while I do have empathy for addicts, it's not a woman's job to fix a broken man and he acts like it is. When he's not complaining about his wife, he's complaining to Fiona about how he wants to get high or how he couldn't resist and got high or how hard it was for him to stop using. He acts like he should be getting so much praise for not doing heroin and like he's some sort of a victim. Half of the time he's a moody loser and the other half he acts like an authority on sobriety. He talks to Fiona like he's her therapist and knows more about her and her feelings and thoughts than she does herself. Like, he's so much better than her and gives her unwanted advice and unwanted criticism.
I also hated how he treated and talked to and about Ian.
And the thing about it is that the whole time he was still using so both of these acts - the "Oh, I had to fight so hard to beat addiction. I was so low. I suffered so much and I'm still suffering trying to stay away from drugs. My wife is horrible for taking my son away" and the "Let me tell you all about life because I know better than everyone" - are hypocritical and performative.
Moreover, I hated how he openly and directly flirted with Fiona in Season 5 then rejected her, then he became jealous when she moved on and married Gus and talked against their marriage but then started flirting with her again and then when Fiona proposed to get together, he once again rejected her. "Your indecision is painfully unattractive" as Olivia sings.
I also hate how he tries to play tough and cool and edgy. Like, that scene in the beginning of Season 6, Episode 2. When Fiona is upset about Debbie being pregnant and Sean starts telling her to give herself to him. Like, dude, you can't pull that off.
And at the end of the day he acted so selfishly towards Fiona. It was always about him. And what he wanted and what was good for him and his son.
I'll always love Frank for interrupting their wedding because Fiona's life with Sean would've been horrible. She would've ended up being miserable.
And then he just got sober and married someone else.
Maybe it's the actor 'cause I hated him on Friends too. Or maybe it's that Sean is a self-righteous, condescending manipulator. But I really hate him.
