Help with fake blisters NSFW
Hello, I've been trying to recreate a realistic second degree burn, and I'm satisfied with it, but I've been failing to create fake blisters.
The small ones are easy to make, but I've been struggling with the big ones, I've tried to use Vaseline, but It looks too firm for a realistic burn, however trying to fill a "fake bubble" with water or other liquids make the liquid latex turn white and it's impossible to close.
Do you guys have any suggestions for how to create fake blister? It doesn't need to be liquid, just needs to look realistic
Any constructive criticism are also welcome
I'm sorry if there are any errors english is not my first language

water activated body paint help
I hope this was the right place to ask cuz i can’t figure this out lol
So I got some mehron paradise aq in pastel pink for my pink alien costume this halloween. Last year I did red and I figure since it’s darker it was easier to work with. When I do it on my arms it looks fine but when I do it on my face it always comes out streaky. I was told to do a little water and really mix the brush around, which i’m using a dense foundation brush. I did the same thing last year.
How do I get it more pigmented on my face? and is there anything I have to do for the first layer in order to put another layer on top? Bc I find whether i dab or drag it picks up the layer underneath but also when I dab it leaves individual like dots from the brush. I can do multiple layers on my arm fine and i was told i needed to layer since it’s a pastel color
Any tips or tricks would be much appreciated!
Edit: I do also have the athena oil face paint palette i’m prob applying it wrong but it just always creases after some wear so i prefer water based on my face

How to make sfx of crystals embedded in skin?
Hello! I would like to do a Halloween look in which I put some crystals (those in the picture) on my forehead, as if they were sticking out from my skin. How would you recommend to do that? I know nothing about sfx and I would have to buy everything. I had thought about just making some bumps with scar wax and sticking the crystals in but that probably wouldn't work. I would also be down to just using some fake resin crystals that would be easier because more light-weighted.

DIY Scar Wax Looks NSFW
galleryToday I decided that I was bored of the luxury of Synwax and spent hours battling flour and vaseline instead. HOW DO YOU GUYS DO IT??? The hand was my first attempt at using the diy wax and I am not a huge fan. Everything it touches removes it. At first it was blending nicely and I created some gnarly textures but then when I sealed it and added color it started to eat itself alive. I tried taking advantage of the weaknesses by creating a burn-like wound (was just fucking around and seeing what I can do) and it looks okay but again, falls off if I breathe too close to it. Anyone have tips or tricks for taming the diy wax? Or should I settle for premade scar/synwax?

How could I get this dirty/burnt look?
I have a halloween party coming up and was wondering how I could create this sort of dirty/oily look without breaking the bank and getting any weird looks if I take the mask off... 😂
EDIT: i mean the face and hands, not the mask

Gelatin as a prosthetic for a 5 to 6 hour outdoor zombie event?
Hello everyone! I volunteered to be a zombie for 3 am to 6 am event and we're supposed to make our own costumes. I'd just like to ask if a gelatin based prosthetic (my concept is like a melty, radioactive zombie lol) on the face and upper torso can hold decently enough? Or is it likely to fall off at some point? Our call time is around 1 am, so I'll essentially be wearing it from 1 to 6 am. Would really appreciate some insights on this, im very much new to prosthetics :> Thank you!

Advice for bondo prosthetics
Hey guys! I am an amateur sfx artist starting to try some bondo prosthetics.
My recent two batches didn't turn out so well, so I'm hoping for some advice as there is not a lot of info out there.
For my first batch, when making the bondo mixture, I guess i put too much pros-aide and not enough cabosil, as the mixture turned out to be very runny and super bubbly. I put this in the mold and in the freezer for ~1h, demoulded it, and wated for it to cure/dry. The center remained super white and opaque, and it was maybe 2+ weeks before it turned fully transparent. This was still unusuable because of all the bubbles.

For the second batch, I mixed in more cabosil so that it was more of a paste like consistency. I did the same with freezing for 1hr and demoulding, however they still took 2+ weeks to fully be transparent, and there were tons of tiny microbubbles.

Does anyone have any advice on the right proportions to make the bondo mixture and how to minimize bubbles? Did I do something to cause the drying/curing to take forever?

Is Pros-aide a performance-proof adhesive for silicone prosthetics?
Doing a brow, chin, and large nose prosthetic in a few weeks, I know pros-aide can work for silicone prosthetics but I'm performing (room temp theatre, minimal sweating, lots of movement ) and I was wondering if I should just get some Skin Tite.

How to Apply fake beard over body paint?
Hi everyone!
Happy Spooky Season!
My fiancé wants to go as the genie for Halloween (the live-action Will Smith version) and even though I’m an amateur at cosplay, I think I can make it happen!
However, I’m worried about how to attach the fake mustache/beard to his face over the body paint that will also be on his face.
Attached is a photo of the fake beard I’m purchasing (if anyone has any other suggestions of where I can buy something like this, please send them to me LOL)
It looks sparse and I’m afraid that if I apply the beard on clean skin, you’ll be able to see his skin color through the beard rather than the blue body paint.
So I’m wondering if it’s possible to glue the beard over the body paint? Everything is telling me it’s not recommended but surely there is a way? I was going to use Spirit Gum for the adhesive. And I’ll be using Mehron cream body paint with a translucent setting powder over top.
Any tips appreciated!

Looking for something that’ll replicate stone on fabric
Hi trying to do a costume that looks like a stone woman. Wondering what material I could put over fabric to get this textured rough look.
I think these are done with concrete but I’d still like to be able to move in it

First time using spirit gum. I think I messed up…
Hopefully this is the right place to get some help. I have this gore-y clown look that I do sometimes. I use scar wax to make it look like there are triangles cut out above and below my eyes. Last time I tried the wax didn't stick well (it was a different brand of wax than I used to use), so this time I put spirit gum under it. It wasn't until I went to go take everything off that I realized it might not have been the best idea to use it so close to my eyes. I was able to get the scar wax off easily without the remover, but there's still makeup and adhesive on my skin. Everything I read says you shouldn't use the adhesive or remover near your eyes. Is there a good way to get it off, or am I just screwed?
Update: I ended up using the spirit gum remover on a paper towel and was just very careful to keep it out of my eyes. It did end up really irritating my skin. Gentle soap and gentle moisturizer both made it hurt more. Vaseline seemed to help the pain. I’ll definitely be staying away from spirit gum in the future lol. Thanks for the suggestions!
Please help me with this look - Zombie Thriller MJ
Hi All
Going for a variation of this look and wanted to see if my thought process is right - -
(Not a SFX guy but I am a professional sculptor so I'm also not like brand new...)
Was going to take scar wax and just exaggerate the orbital areas, add to the cheekbones, and kind of build up the nose where bone meets cartilage...
Then a layer of liquid latex over the wax to blend and seal it -
Then cream makeup over the top -
2 questions - will that work, and are there user friendly brands of wax and cream makeup that are recommended - "amateur grade" level?
Thank you
