New title tagging rule & Spammers

As some regulars here may have noticed, this subreddit recieves an astronomical amount of spam, both from human as well as bot spammers, for it's relatively small size. Coming from modding various large subreddits, including one that's literally about products, this amount of spam is not normal. Despite a lot of our less agressive attempts to filter out spam (example, filtering out posts that say "for sale", "rent", or "Services") we still get quite a lot that slip by.

[1] [2] [3]

Why is this subreddit getting so much spam? Who knows. ¯\(°_o)/¯

But we will be resorting to the one thing that has worked for various larger communities, like r/food : mandatory title tags.

From now on, all posts will require at least a tag of one of the below:

[Self]
[Found]
[Help]

You may add words to the tags like:

[I found] this chicken carved out of abestos!

or

[Help me] carve a chicken out of abestos

For flexibility, but the bare minimum requirement for post titles will be that it must contain one of those words surrounded by brackets.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to modmail us, or ask here.

Self (WIP) [Self] I created this angel to keep a family's precious memories alive.

• Upvotes

A family approached me with an unusual and deeply touching request.
They had lost their little companion, who had been part of their lives for many years. They wanted something more than a memorial — something that would keep the warmth of their love alive.
This became a very special sculpture for me. I created a white metal angel lamp with a personal engraving, hoping its gentle light would bring them comfort.
While creating it, I kept thinking about something…
Perhaps we don’t truly lose those we love. We only lose the ability to hold them close.
And maybe that’s what this angel represents. A light that cannot erase the darkness of loss, but reminds us that love never really disappears. 🤍

Found (WIP) [Found] “Conquistadors” — Individually Crafted Steel and Copper Figures in a Sculptural Chess Set

Sharing a hand-forged chess set that took approximately one year to create.

What interests me most is how much character is contained in the individual figures: their faces, gestures, clothing, weapons, shields, and musical instruments. The worked metal surfaces remain a prominent part of their appearance.

The board measures 54 × 54 cm (21.26 × 21.26 inches), and the king is 14 cm (5.51 inches) tall.
Total weight is approximately 81.6 lb (37 kg)

I have included close-ups as well as views of the two sides. Which figures do you find most expressive, and how well do you think they work together as a sculptural composition?

[Self] Same sculpture, completely different character — the magic of chemical patina

Two stages of chemical treatment on one of my geometric metal sculptures.
I find it fascinating how much the surface finish can change the entire character of a sculpture.
Which look do you prefer — dark or rust-toned?

I'll just call it the Slate Tear, even if the shape sorta got away from me. But someone suggested Mr Wiggles, and I like that name too.

I use this boulder as a pedestal for creating experimental pieces. Built free form with no guide. It's not perfect, doesn't have to be. Will be replaced when the time comes. Last one stood here for half a year, maybe less.
