I was asked to make a bunch of these, wanted to show the main sculpt ✨
A fantasy community from my hometown asked me to make a lot of these in metallic colors, this will be the mother piece for a silicone mold, i loved the outcome and wanted to show you guys, this is the smallest "realistic piece" ive made

🪨 Two sculptures, two aesthetics ✨
Left: Tang Sancai dancer. Focus on spirit and artistic mood.
Right: Western angel statue. Focus on realistic, fine details.
Eastern art is free and expressive. Western art loves realism.
Which style do you prefer?

Clay sculpting advice?
way back in (i think) 2024 i made a life-sized golb “relic” from fionna & cake, aside from the fact that i bought all my clay from overpriced craft stores and it was well over 60 dollars in total, it was a pretty good time. Nowadays it sits decrepit and disgusting because the paint i used dried sticky, so there’s an even carpet of dust and debris covering it, which, i guess is somewhat accurate to reality.
anyways cutting to the chase, the itch to sculpt is back and i want to make a relatively large figure of apollyon from tboi. i don’t necessarily need any advice on the actual art aspect of the sculpt, as i do a metric fuck-ton of blender modeling anyways, but advice on what tools to buy, what type of clay, paint, sealing, etc, would be dope. I want to be able to keep him fairly rough looking and use some sort of knife to chisel some cracks into his skin when everything is hardened. What type of clay should i use for that? and does anyone know any paint sealers that might not be as shiny? since he’s meant to resemble a stone statue. any advice would be VERY appreciated, since other than the basics of using water to smooth things and tinfoil to keep costs/weight down, i know nothing.

[self] burning out on projects
Im a fairly novice self taught sculptor. I’m coming up on a year. I’ve only completed a few pieces. I’ve been working on this figure for literally months. It’s been a great learning process and I do love it but I’m honestly at a point where i know i can see what I want out of it but i am getting burnt out on it. Is there worth in tabling it and doing something else for a while and coming back? I feel like i might lose the feeling if I do that but am at the limits of my skill level at this point.

What’s a sculpting mistake that accidentally improved your piece?
Sometimes the most interesting details come from things that don’t go according to plan. A misplaced cut, an uneven surface, or an unexpected shape can sometimes lead to a result you wouldn’t have discovered otherwise.
Have you ever made a mistake while sculpting that ended up making the final piece better? I’d love to hear what happened and whether you kept the change or tried to recreate it in later projects.
