🦩Biology!🧫 Who's going to tell him?
Astrobiology is the study of life beyond Earth which we have yet to discover, if it exists at all.

It's an inclusive space for all women working in the tech industry - whether technical, non-technical, or somewhere in between. Connect, build community, and support each other there. And wave hi to the lead mod u/ScreamAndScream for maintaining that sub!

Voting has ended and the final tally for Yes! Drop some knowledge! was 966, while Nope. I don't want any explanations was 39. So this has been added to the Automod. Unfortunately Reddit being what it is will only notify you AFTER you post (even though there's something you can toggle it only applies to text posts?!)
So just add why this is funny or what it's about for people who aren't in your field. This serves to both educate people & to weed out karma faming/ low quality post types.
Right now I'm figuring out the Automod so hopefully things will be smoothed out for people who forget to put a body text in within a week.

Usually, having a resistance to something is seen as a good thing, but in this case, having a resistance to insulin causes a lot of bad things to happen ranging from excessive hunger and thirst to weight loss and blurred vision.

Electromagnetic induction is the process of generating an electric current or voltage using a magnetic field which changes over time
By moving this bar magnet “in” and “out” of the coil a current would be induced into the coil by the physical movement of the magnetic flux inside it.

Contrary to common beliefs, not all land snail species (Stylommatophora) are herbivorous: even, it's thought that most land snail species are either herbivores, detritivores or omnivores. Despite this, some snail species are known to be carnivorous instead.
Among the land snail taxa, that are known to be carnivorous, are the powelliphanta snails (Powelliphanta spp.), which are known to mostly feed on earthworms and are native to forests from New Zealand. Also, among these predatory snails are the rosy wolfsnail (Euglandina rosea) from the forests of the southeastern United States, or the decollate snail (Rumina decollata) from the mediterranean basin, both of these species being known to mainly feed on other snails and slugs.

Heat absorption is a fundamental thermodynamic process that occurs when a material takes in heat energy from its surroundings

"Nobody understands quantum mechanics".
Imagine a student after finishing a STEM class or an entire course saying "I still don't understand it". For chemistry (or any other STEM class, for that matter) it might be a worrying sign, but for quantum physics "nobody understands it anyway".
It's the only class you are not supposed to understand.

Incompressible flow is a type of fluid motion in which the density of a fluid element remains constant over time. However this definition is incorrect in the real world

A cat is placed inside a sealed steel box with a radioactive atom that has a 50% chance of decaying within an hour.
If the atom decays, a Geiger counter triggers a hammer that shatters a poison flask, killing the cat. Otherwise, the cat survives.
This thought experiment, known as Schrödinger’s cat, illustrates quantum superposition, where a system can exist in multiple possible states until measured.

Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction states that a changing magnetic field within a closed circuit induces an electromotive force which is proportional to the rate of change of magnetic flux

SEXUAL CANNIBALISM AMONG female praying mantids may actually benefit males, in an evolutionary sense, according to a new study.
The research suggests that when a male mantis is eaten by the female after mating, more of the male’s body material is passed into the female, and in turn, a higher number of eggs are laid.

Many STEM classes allow students to bring scientific calculators but many students forget to bring them and are forced to do calculations mentally. Some problems are very complex and difficult to solve without a calculator.

I can never remember the difference between Eulerian and Lagrangian frames of reference, so I made this. You can imagine Lagrange on a boat (follows the particle) and Euler on the shore watching him pass by (observes the particle from a stationary point).

For people who are less than 35, Napster was a popular website that preceded Google in many ways as a file sharing website. Knapping is how one takes a piece of stone or obsidian and hammers it in the right places to turn it into something useful.
This subreddit should have a flair for things that go into something more like archeology and anthropology and paleontology. But it doesn't so I had to choose science instead.

Fluorine is an EXTREMELY reactive element and It forms compounds super quickly with most other elements. Plus, it even reacts with noble gases, which are known for their low reactivity.
