Question mouthpiece needed!!
hey everyone!
im a high school alto sax player and im in desperate need of a new mouthpiece. i have a nice model (selmer series II) from the school, but im playing on my beginner mouthpiece from like 5th grade and its starting to show. i think my tone could be a lot better so im willing to make the investment.
regarding the mouthpiece, it needs to be fairly premium and should last me like the next 3-4 years. im looking to spend anywhere between $100-$150 dollars knowing that my sound and tone will be a huge step up. for reference, i play both concert and jazz.
thanks again, any suggestions are really appreciated!

Question Octave jump
When I play low A followed by low G in the same breath, the instrument plays the low G correctly. However, when I play low G by itself, it produces a high G instead.
Is it me or is there a leak somewhere?

Question Used vs New Baritones
Open question: how should I go about buying a baritone?
I've been playing alto for almost 8 years, and tenor for about 2 years and have always wanted a baritone.
I have a few options: buying a good-quality used one from a reputable woodwind shop costs ~£3000 or more. I have a problem with investing this much at this stage. My two other options are to buy the cheapest entry-level new baritone for ~£1600, or to buy a good used one at ~£950 and (if needed) have my local shop repair it.
What would you suggest? I'm grateful for any advice.

Question How to darken tone
Im a HS junior and im really trying to improve my tone. Im on a Selmer USA SAS-511, s90 180, and 3.0 v21 reeds. I sound mostly the same on all equipment I play on, I sounded the same on a supreme I tested out. I’ve been told it’s bright and I have noticed it does sound way different than a lot of professionals I’ve been listening to and a lot of my peers. I’m going for that darker tone but I have no idea where to really start and I know it’s not much of a biting problem since I sound the same with a double lip and lifting my teeth up. I recorded some stuff from the tmea slow etude (it’s not gonna be clean I’m just using them as tone reference). I’m trying to go for a darker sound, similar to what most classical saxophonists sound like. What can I do to improve my tone?

Low C broken
My saxophone annoyingly got dropped and the Low C has been bent out of place and it sounds completely off.
The button next to Eb has been bent and the actual key has a gap now (pics).
What can I do?

Question A Song For You Transcription
I'm trying to help my buddy find a transcription for A Song For You, by Leonard Russell, arr. Mark Taylor. He has the general melody and such, but he needs the solo section.
My director's toxic trait is that he wants us to almost exclusively play transcribed solos. He wants the one from this recording, but he doesn't even have a full recording of it. It's dumb, but can anyone help us out, with maybe a transcription or a full length recording of this same version?
Thank you for any and all assistance!

Question Cleaning help
So I haven’t played in a few months and my wife cleaned the house. Idiotically I left my alto on a stand and not back in the case and she decided to help clean it with baking powered without telling me. She forgot she did that and now it’s caked in a layer of baking powder and dust 😭. Any ideas on what I should do to get it off? It’s hard enough that I’m struggling to get it off with a micro fiber towel!

Question D'Addario Select Jazz Mouthpiece -- What Reed?
I'm going to upgrade from a Yamaha 4C to a D'Addario Select Jazz Mouthpiece 7 (Tenor).
For those that have it, do you have a preferred reed for it? I'm thinking Select Jazz 2/2.5s for ease/chill playing.

Question Classical tenor/baritone saxophonist tired of playing "bullshit" needs help finding stuff to play
So I started playing instruments in corps's here in Norway so I've grown up playing everything else but jazz (mostly because I've also tried to avoid it) and I'm now stuck in my schools bigband, and I need help to try to make it feel fun.
Mix that with the fact I also need to find pieces to play for my exam this year (15-20 minutes worth of playing including some yapping). Currently every piece I find that's advanced enough for my exam is either some jazz bullshit needing an entire band to sound good. Or some other piece that just feels too repetitive.
I'm sure there is probably something out there for me but right now I'm just so tired of playing pieces I hate/not finding music to play I find fun.
And finding pieces based on the music I listen to is hard as well since I mostly listen to rock/metal/electronic music. Which I just cannot find something to play along side of.
If you guys have any recommendations for pieces I am desperate right now. And I know that it is impossible to not like jazz you just haven't found the one kind you like yet, however the little i like i don't even know what is and is such a small genre in my head it's easier to say i don't like jazz
Edit: calling it bullshit in the title was just to emphasize how tired I am of it, jazz isn't objectively bullshit, I am just objectively incredibly tired of it in my day to day school life

Upgrading my Saxophone
I have been playing my tenor saxophone for some time now, practicing a lot on a daily basis and now i'm considering upgrading from my Yamaha yts280 to the yts62. What differences can I expect? MP and reeds will stay the same. (Otto Link Tone Edge 6*, Vandoren ZZ 2.0)
