Welcome to /r/salt!
Hello and welcome to /r/salt.
We have a monthly thread on a chosen salt. If you want to write that post, or have a great idea for it, please message the mod (me).
I'm fairly new here - open to suggestions. I think first order of business will be the following:
Start the wiki. I outlined in another post what I think that will be, I'll try to get it rolling in the near future! Please post any adjustments to this https://www.reddit.com/r/salt/comments/80qexa/sent_a_request_to_get_mod_status_lets_discuss_the/dvdwfdr/
Post tags. History/Culinary/Tourism/Curiosity, etc.
More users and content!
Let me know if there is anything you specifically want to see here. I'll try to accommodate.

How many pickles is too many?
I love pickles and I can eat many in one sitting. Is there any danger to eating too much salt wise?

Has anyone done the Salt Test?
You know those random 2 am thoughts.. would I actually be able to tell Celtic sea salt and Himalayan pink salt apart if I couldn't see which one I was eating?
Not the color or the bag , just the taste.
A boiled egg seems like a good place to try it , or maybe a tomato? But then if one has bigger crystals, am I just noticing the crunch and calling it a flavour difference.
Has anyone done this with roughly the same grain size and amount of salt? Which one did you actually prefer? And if its all branding, I want to hear those too.

Culinary How much is too much
I think I miscalculated the amount of salt I needed. I added 5 tablespoons to a mix and finished it. Will I be ok.

Whereas "16 Tons" is about the drudgery of coal mining, what are all of the songs you know of, about salt mining?
If I hope to mine salt at the local salt mines someday, I think I first have to listen to salt mining songs, so please share their YouTube links here, thanks.

Storing salt in old jars
Is it ok to store fancy salt in a reused jar or will it taint the flavor? How easily does sea salt absorb smells? I have a little baggie of fancy Portuguese salt and want to put in an old hoisin or Boullon jar that has been through the dishwasher but I’m worried it could ruin it.

Anyone know where we can buy a good and original French Celtic Sea Salt in india?
I see a bunch of these on Amazon but not sure if these are real Celtic salt being sold to people or just normal salt with good packaging and jaars.
Do let me know if you have any good recommendations from Amazon.
I'm aware that there are a few options available through Iherb but those will be shipped from the US and in the long term will cost more.

What is this in my salt?
What is this in my salt?
It’s from the Morton salt that I normally get and maybe I just haven’t paid much attention to it before but I don’t remember ever seeing this in my salt until now.
I’ve thrown out quite a bit of it thinking maybe somehow a paint chip got in my batch of salt, but the new batch (from the same box) has them.
Maybe the entire box is bad? Should I get a new box?

TIL about Hot Salt Frying which is similar to deep fat frying, but uses salt instead oil, and does not make food taste salty.

Production You know how coal mining causes black lung disease, right? Well, do the Hutch salt miners get a salty lung disease? What does working in the Carey Salt Mines do to the miners' long-term health?
Should I feel safe to apply to work the salt mines? Is it a job that'll be good for my health? Are they currently hiring?
And will it be an upgrade from delivering for Doordash? (My earnings goal these days is $150/day, and I meet and exceed that most days. What is the daily wage of a starting salt miner?)

Massive saltworks evaporating seawater near Rio Lagartos, Yucatán MX. We were only allowed to walk around some of the evaporation lagoons.
