Blind dude here, I need ideas for a place to propose to my visually impaired girlfriend in Carytown
First and foremost, I will be reposting this again in a couple months closer to the event, so if you happen to see this post again, please don’t get mad at me. I just want different ideas from a different ring of people.
Very long story short, I went to school for the blind here in Richmond, met my girlfriend, started going out, moved in together. Things are going great. I’m gonna ask her to get married, preferably in Carytown.
Why do I wanna do Carytown? Well, we spent months and months and months learning the streets of the adjacent neighborhood and Carytown itself, and training in and out of it, and that is also the reason why we fell in loved and moved to Richmond because of that neighborhood. So I figured it would be a very appropriate place to go and propose.
Where would I like this to happen at? Ideally, in Carytown itself between the 3600 block and the 2800 block, or whatever is between Arthur Ashe Boulevard and the highway, and South of Grove and Cary Street itself and north. So between Grove Avenue and West Cary Street, and between the highway and Arthur Ashe Boulevard, which gives you guys a pretty big rectangle to work with. Also Belmont Ave going up to Belmont pizza, we know extremely well because we go there all the time, off of Grove Avenue.
What do I need? Obviously, ideas in that area I specified of where to propose, since I know that area very well. But I also need a place that at least two people can sit at, whether it be a bench, stair, curb, or whatever, at least for a limited amount of time, because I am inviting her dad and one of her friends, and they both don’t do well with standing up for long periods of time, so I need a place that at least can sit to. Making sure that the two of them can sit down comfortably for an extended period of time, which could be up to 45 minutes, is kind of important to me because again they cannot stand for extended periods of time and since I’m gonna be dependent on the carer ride, I don’t know exactly when I would be there, just that it would be sometime within roughly a half hour window.
Who is gonna be there? Obviously, me and her, but we’re also inviting her four blind friends and her dad, her sister, and her best friend. so we’re gonna have three-sided people to help round the blind people behind the scenes, which is great. Based off of what she told me, she would love a surprise like this with her friends and family there.
That is the plan, and I’m very open to ideas and criticisms because I’m just throwing this together as I go, and I’m not very good at this. That’s why I came to you guys for help
Edit:
I am adding the when and how, because why not.
When is this happening? I’m aiming for our anniversary, which is in March, and I’m doing that because it’s a very easy and organic way to get her out there without questioning a thing. The more organic I make this, the better it’s gonna be because she has this thing for questioning everything.
How is this gonna be done? Well, it’s gonna be on our anniversary, so we have an excuse to get pretty and go out, so that’s perfect. The plan is to let her know: hey, let’s go grab some food and carry town for our anniversary, and then we take the care ride there since it’s free for us, and sometime within roughly a 30 to maybe a 45 minute window, we show up and then once I get there, I’m gonna call her best friend, probably with an AirPod in my ear, and have the other one open because remember she can’t really see it because she’s visually impaired, and I’ll have to sneak a call to her best friend at some point in time. Make sure she can hear me, and I can hear her, and then once we’re out and walking in Carytown, she will help guide me into the perfect position for this.
2nd Edit:
I am very shy and introverted, so this is way outside of my scope of things, but it’s definitely something I want to get done for her, and I know she would love this
