Stop buying sh*t and go to the dermatologist

I am a 30 year-old female. I have always had rosacea but never had a problem with acne or bumps. About a year and a half ago I developed “acne”. After so much research and going through 1 million products. I got a proper diagnosis of papulopustular rosacea. The dermatologist first prescribed just metronidazole, which did not work for me. Saw another dermatologist and they gave me the holy Grail triple cream. Has ivermectin metronidazole and Azael acid (prescription grade). Been using it for two months now and I have my old skin back. Never going to get rid of the redness, but the bumps and texture have significantly gotten better.

Hope this helps!

Weekly 'Do I have rosacea?' advice request thread. Please post here instead of making a new thread! Oct 19

If you think you might have something like rosacea and are looking for advice about whether you should seek professional care, please post your inquiry in this thread instead of creating a new post. To keep requests from crowding out other discussion in r/Rosacea, separate posts will be automatically removed and the posters directed here instead.

Rules:

  1. Please limit answers to things like, "Yup, that looks like it could be rosacea to me, maybe you should to see a doc" or "No, it looks like it could be something else."
  2. Refrain from amateur diagnoses, speculation, and armchair medical advice, especially non-rosacea related.

REMINDER: THE INTERNET IS BAD AT DIAGNOSING STUFF. Although redditors try to be helpful, only doctors can diagnose rosacea and it often takes a specialist like a dermatologist or ophthalmologist. Rosacea looks like a lot of things, and a lot of things look like rosacea; some of these things are potentially serious. It is impossible for amateurs to diagnose rosacea reliably from pictures or descriptions of symptoms, and this thread is not intended as a substitute for professional care.

No matter what response you get here, if your symptoms have been persistent and you're concerned that you might have something like rosacea, see a doctor to get a real answer.

And be sure to check out the our wiki for some rosacea knowledge basics if you're trying to figure out if you need professional medical advice.

Skincare Seeking tinted moisturizer recs

Hi all! I am looking to see what tinted moisturizers y'all recommend.

Requirements:

- Must have SPF

- Must be suitable for VERY dry skin

- Must be suitable for daily use, ideally a with "skincare" type formula- i.e. won't irritate the skin or cause breakouts (I understand everyone is different!)

Preferences:

- I am in the US so availablility is pretty good, but would prefer something available at Ulta, Sephora, or Walmart. I can do Amazon or target if absolutely necessary, and brand websites are fine.

- A green tint is fine, but I'd prefer something with a light color to it as well - I am fair and cool toned. (Tarte concealer shade "light") My skin is relatively clear other than the rosacea/redness hence why I'm interested in a tinted moisturizer rather than a foundation

- The cheaper the better

- Fragrance free if at all possible!

THANK YOU so much in advance for your recommendations!!

Nose - dry - what do I do? What's your routine Spoiler

Post image
3 Upvotes

I need help.

I have rosacea and it's the type with pustules or bumps etc.

It's on my nose, I had a really bad episode from using metrogel, and got yellow marks all over my nose and fucidin h - x2 weeks, and regular fucidin for 2 weeks cleared it up.

I haven't started the finacea yet, as it caused pretty intense burning and my skin barrier was really damaged.

I use a cotton pad and gently apply water to this area as it's still pretty sensitive and dry. What am I to do, it's not drying more, and skin is peeling a bit.

I've recently bought vanicream - and have only spot used it on my jaw, as I've used other products that were suppose to be easy going and it may my nose worse.

What is your routine, do you have a dry nose, how do you wet it and get it moisturizer and use finacea or metrogel?

Any help or guidance would be great based on my nose.

Routine Alternatives to Rosiver in Canada?

Since the patent has expired I wonder if anyone has purchased generic ivermectic, or if rosiver is still the only option available.

I'm paying nearly $300 per tube at the moment.

PP Pustules on the forehead.

Pretty much as the title says, does anyone else get the Pustules and papules on your forehead?

It seems to have been kicked off by 12 weeks of Rosiver use during the summer whilst not using a cleanser that could remove the cream of the Rosiver.

The cleanser I was told to use wasn't capable of removing it so my skin was like an oil slick all summer.

Now I can't get rid of these bloomin pustules.

Is it normal for Rosacea bumps to keep flaring in exact same spot?

So long story short I have to areas on both cheeks which I keep getting painless red bumps appear in. The bump itself literally flattens within 48 hours but always leaves a red mark that never really fades until it flares again within a couple of weeks

Hey everyone! I have Type 1 and I’ve recently been looking for a new laundry detergent because I’ve noticed that the Seventh Generation Sensitive Skin contains SLS which is the one im currently using. I’ve been looking around for something SLS free to use for when I wash my pillow cases and face towels.

Does anyone have experience with this Detergent? If so please let me know!

Any other suggestions are appreciated as well!

Dry skin with rosecea

I have very dry skin with type 2 rosecea and need help recommending a moisturizer that will soothe and make me plump and hydrated. My skin is super dry and sucks up everything I put on it so I feel like I am dry again an hour after doing my hydration routine. Right now I am using the corsx snail mucin serum under my la Roche posay rosaliac moisturizer. This combination doesn’t trigger my skin but I was hoping for more hydration while using the snail mucin. My skin is so dry and dull I am sick of it. Does anyone have any hydrating recommendations that are safe for rosecea type 2?

Edit: I am debating trying the vanicream moisturizer does anyone have any experience with it?

Retinol suggestions

I am in my early 30s and decided since I’m no longer pregnant I should incorporate some form of anti aging. Every product I use just flares my type 2 rosacea. tretinoin has always been too strong so I tried a retinal. I don’t know if it was I used to much or if my skin just doesn’t like it. Any suggestions on brands or what to do for it?

Avene vs Tata Harper Superkind

Has anyone used both the Avene tolerance and xeracalm products as well as the Tata Harper superkind line?

I previously used the speaking bio barrier serum and calming cream, but after running it through chat gpt it said it could be contributing to my redness. So I switched over to the avene redness expert and c+ serum for day and avene tolerance balm at night

I don’t think the redness expert is helping at all, doesn’t feel hydrating enough. Same with the c+ serum, the milky quality of the bio barrier felt better

I like the tolerance balm, but still need a face oil over it at night to help the dry feeling

I know the Tata Harper is crazy expensive, so I was trying to simplify and reduce spend, but now I’m wondering if it was worth the cost….

Tried ivermectin + azelic acid…holy hell I’ve never been in so much pain Spoiler

Post image
16 Upvotes

Last night I used azaelic acid serum and ivermectin cream on top. This morning I put zinc facial sunscreen from TJs, which is recommended by my dermatologist, because I’ve read that if you use acid you have to use sunscreen. But it had been burning and itching more and more all day to the point where it is unbearable, like the worst sunburn of my life.

I’ve used the ivermectin a few times, which made me itchy but was otherwise fine, and I had patch tested the azaelic acid on half of my cheek a few days ago without issue. Is I honestly have no idea what’s going on. My face is in so much pain every day which is why I tried to start a routine. But now it’s in even more pain. The pain is becoming unbearable. What did I do wrong?? What else can I do??

ETR Newly diagnosed ETR; advice? Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hello friends, newly diagnosed with ETR. I have been having this redness, enlarged pores, and tiny veins on my nostrils for about 6 months now. I'm 36 and never had any face skin issues prior. Leading to the start-up of this issue I had been having severe stress and anxiety. I am still educating myself on connections between rosacea and stress. Current triggers seem to be emotions, exertion, and touching my face (however gently).

I have been on metronidazole 0.75% for one week now. I am currently waiting for a compounding pharmacy to make and send me my triple cream (metronizadole, ivermectin, azelaic acid) prescription. Does anyone else have rosacea that looks similar to mine, and have you had any success with the treatments I'm doing, or something else? My nurse practitioner in dermatology is open to any and everything to tackle rosacea.

Current skincare routine: pm is wash with vanicream face cleanser, metronidazole, vanicream face moisturizer; am is wash with water, metronizadole, and vanicream face moisturizer.

Thank you kindly :)

eta: sorry for double posting, I'm still trying to figure out reddit. Thank you!

Skincare What do you do with all your failed rosacea products?

I'm sure many of you can relate. I've got a drawer full of moisturizers, redness reducers, etc., that are great for some but didn't work for me. I've found my holy grail, and I'm done with searching. But, what do you do with products that you used maybe one to three times that turned into big nopes? In the trash? Just curious because I did a purge of my beauty products and rosacea treatments and now have a big zip bag full of rejects.

ROSACEA SUCKS Ongoing red puffy face for 18 months - 2 years Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
4 Upvotes

For about 18 months - 2 years now I have been suffering from red cheeks and puffiness.

I have generally had very good skin all my life and I am becoming really self aware now and its really getting me down I've started avoiding certain social events. I've had various appointments with doctors and a dermatologist giving me various creams and a long 3 month course of doxycycline but nothing seems to shift it fully. I have had during this period two eye lid infections no idea if related or not. The sun and heat do make it worse this latest episode is quite obvious.

I don't think medical professionals really know what's going on. I have been told rosacea by one, UV sun reaction by another and a nurse told me its just acne. My skin is red as pictured, sometimes it subsides a bit and other times more aggressive. There are times where I'll get pimples under the skin sometimes with squeezing they'll yield puss but most of the time just remain as red pumps.

Over the last 2 years I would say I've had no diet changes or introduced any new foods or drinks. I train down the gym 4 days a week and eat a pretty boring gym diet. My meals and snacks are pretty much the same Monday to Friday. Porridge and protein powder for breakfast, mix of fruits, vegs, rices, pasta, meats and eggs throughout the day. I've always snack on nuts and dried fruit before bed. I drink water and coffee and don't really have fizzy drinks or anything like that.

It's worth noting I have had diabetes and cystic fibrosis but I don't think they are the cause. My blood sugars are in the normal range with good control and overall my HBA1C bloods are always in the normal range. My CF is good with no health issues with my lung function in the 90s.

Dewy Foundation for sensitive skin/type 2?

Hey all. I currently use Tower 28 Sunny days tinted sunscreen in shade Fairfax (i am prettyyyy pale)- But it seems to separate on my skin and provides very little coverage after 1-2hrs in. I have tried Clinique’s products but every foundation I wear from them feels so thick and matte finish that it ends up separating and creasing as my day goes on. Does anybody know of a good foundation that leaves a glow finish and also does not break you out that will last all day? I have type 2 and very sensitive skin barrier that is still doing her best to heal lol.

Also going to a wedding this weekend and wanna feel fresh and not like I have red skin. It makes me so insecure because I look like I have a glasses sunburn- I just want to feel normal. Really killing my confidence. Ty in advance 🥲🥲🥲 I hate this

Rosacea bumps triggered by sun/heat

I have had rosacea for 5-6 years. I only had redness. I never experienced flushing or bumps. (I only used to flush if i applied a heavy moisturizer in summer). This summer after using an occlusive moisturizer in summer i started getting red papules and pustules all over my face for the first time ever. The moisturizer most probably triggered my rosacea. I'm getting pdl lasers for the frequent flushing and blushing. I started soolantra 2 weeks ago. The weather here is still hot n humid. If i continue using it will i stop getting the papules and pustules from heat and sun because i never got them before. My rosacea never flared from sun or heat. But now sun light and heat flare up my rosacea immediately (flushing and red bumps). And for how long should i use soolantra?

Doxycycline reaction? Help!!

Got prescribed bt Amazon pharmacy (I know I know- I have type 2 that is pretty bad and cant afford health insurance… your girl was desperate) 100mg/day of doxy. As soon as I take it I feel very disassociated from reality, heart palpitations that last all day, headache or pressure in may head, and my vision feels slow. Granted, I am anxiety prone- so was this just anxiety about taking a new medication (I take none, so this felt like a big deal when in reality it probably isn’t. Raised in granola household type beat). Has anyone else experienced this?
