Discussion Resume Page Rule

I'm not in recruiting or anything but I get included in technical interview panels sometimes and get to review candidate resumes. I know the golden rule is to keep your resume around a single page but all of the resumes I have ever reviewed were like 10+ pages of pure technical jargon and key word optimization. These were senior software engineering roles and the folks we were interviewing did have years of experience but nothing that I would think would justify a 10+ page resume. Is the "1 page per decade of experience" really still the golden rule to get past the ATS? It can't be a coincidence that every single resume I reviewed looked like this right?

24M Software Engineer in Test , Looking for feedback on my CV.
I'm currently targeting Software Engineer / Full-Stack and would really appreciate some honest feedback on my CV.

In particular, I'd like feedback on:

  • Does my experience come across as Software Engineering, or does it look too QA-focused?
  • Are the achievement/impact bullets strong enough?
  • Are the metrics I included useful and credible?
  • Is the project section adding value or should I reduce it?
  • Are there any obvious ATS, formatting, or positioning issues?
  • What would you change if you were applying with this CV?

I've anonymized the company, university, contact details, and other identifying information for privacy.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Technology/Software/IT [0 Years, Recent Graduate, junior data analyst, Cosenza(Italy)] My (27F) first cv, any suggestions?

Post image

MSc AI & Data Science student in Italy, no work experience yet, trying to get my first IT-related role (internship, junior consultant, data science, software dev, pretty much anything).

Main questions: Should I keep unrelated jobs like cashier and tutoring? What can I add to compensate for no work experience?

What should I remove? Is the two-column layout an ATS risk? Are the thesis/project bullets strong enough? Any red flags for a first IT role? Thanks!

Just revamped my resume and would appreciate any advice anyone could give me on how this stacks up in the professional field. Even though I recently graduated from college I have only been in this field/major for the past 2 years, so work experience is not related to my current career aspirations, but my projects that I did at college are.

Marketing/Sales [7 years, part time marketing, buying/procurement assistant, remote] 7 months relentlessly applying, zero callbacks/nothing. Help dearly appreciated!

Hey everyone! I've been applying for remote purchasing assistant roles with absolutely zero luck, despite have 7+ years experience in this role. I have only ever worked at one business, but have been there over ten years now, so I'm trying to "build" up my resume up with what experience I have, so it's kind of tough. I also live in a small town. I have been applying to what resources I have around me but have had no luck with those either, that's why I am trying to go the remote jobs route.

For some extra context: I went to school to become a graphic designer, while I'm still pursuing this career I'm creating more solid projects for my portfolio. This resume I designed myself and has been reviewed by graphic designers and people giving resume feedback. They suggested changes which I made, so this is the current version after those critiques.

Currently struggling A LOT financially right now (aren't we all, ughhh) so I am trying to find a job in procurement since that's what I have most experience in. I also am the current marketing manager at my job (it's part time work and very, very little pay). I still do procurement from time to time, but now it's mostly marketing related responsibilities.

Technology/Software/IT [2 YoE, Unemployed, Software Developer, North Europe]

Hi everyone, this is my first “serious” resume, based on Jake’s Resume. I’m sure there’s room for improvement since it’s my first attempt. I’m applying for international part-time positions (i'm currently a student) in Northern Europe (where I’m pursuing my master’s degree). I’ve already sent out a few dozen applications (I know that’s not many) for positions I found on LinkedIn—both those strictly related to software engineering and more general roles like IT technician or office systems administrator, etc.

My professional experience in a corporate setting is mainly in backend design and development and related fields. As an occasional freelancer, I develop, expand, and maintain websites, hosting, domains, and SEO for a few clients, managing everything independently. Through this side job, I’ve also learned a bit about customer service and how to interact with clients.

I also have experience with Linux, Docker, etc., and as a hobby, I run a small home server hosting various services (VMs, LXC) that I use locally or via VPN.

What do you think? What are the biggest weaknesses in my resume? How would you improve it? I know the current job market is terrible, but I’d like to maximize my chances—which is what I’m already trying to do by opening myself up to positions that aren’t strictly software-focused. Both local and remote jobs are fine. Any advice is welcome.

Someone has already told me I should put that I can use AI tools so I'm thinking about adding Codex and Claude to skills and add a brief bullet point about AI assisted coding.

Thank you.

Discussion Just got a significant title change, not a promotion. Can I list it as one position on my resume?

I was just cleared this morning and am officially working under a new updated title at my work. It is a significant jump from a low-level title to a mid-level title.

HR put strong emphasis on how this isn't a promotion and I won't really be doing anything different. They are just changing my title to actually reflect what I've been doing.

I've been under this title for 2.2 years exactly, doing much more than what it entailed. So now that the title has been updated, can I just list my most recent title as the only one for this company? This is not assuming I will be leaving after like 3 months with the new title btw

Discussion "Get A Resume Score" in sidebar feels like a scam

So I'm trying to figure out if my resume scans well. Searching generally gets me seven companies I've never heard of, but then I find this subreddit and figure things might be slightly vetted, so I try the link, which takes me to Resumatic.

It says upload a resume, so I do. It throws a create account screen at me, which is probably where I go wrong, but I'm in a hurry, so I create an account. I find myself at a dashboard with no uploaded resume, never mind an actual evaluation of one. Instead, I've got prompts to create a resume along with a lot of subtle "you're going to need to get a paid version to be able to do much here" indicators.

It doesn't feel like a service the subreddit should be promoting.

Recent psychology graduate who would like to break into a research assistant job. I know the market is tough out there, and I am much more likely to get a role if I have a masters degree, however seeing how my CV is currently looking. Any advice? Will be emailing researchers for volunteering opportunities.
