So I've had a Google Nest system for almost 5 years now and recently talked to a friend about moving to a new ecosystem as I got fed up with price changes and features being removed/changed without much reason.
I was recommended Reolink, so off I went to buy the gen 2 doorbell (and it came with an essentially free home hub mini).
TL:DR. Official eBay store sold refurbed cameras as new, poor doorbell wifi leading to app hanging, compatibility issues that feel very poorly documented.
The doorbell setup
First time I set it up, I use the home hub only to discover that I couldn't consistently record in clear quality.
Second time I set it up, I didn't use the hub but discovered the doorbells wifi signal is so poor and the app would near constantly hang/lose connection (no other device has a problem with in that position).
After some repositioning it finally seems to work although the animal/people detection seems to give false alerts pretty often to the point I've had to just turn them off (last night it was especially bothered by a puddle that apparently looked like a cat).
The POE Cameras
With the doorbell setup, I moved on to replacing my 2 outdoor cameras. I ordered a pair of "New" D1200 cameras via the official eBay store after looking over the options and confirming on this page that "Reolink Home Hub is compatible with all PoE and Wi-Fi plug-in security cameras".
Cameras arrived and they are sealed with a "REFURBISHED" sticker, odd I could have swore I ordered new ones... I checked and sure enough I did.
Contact them on eBay to be told they were out of stock of the new ones, so I guess just hoped I wouldn't notice. As I had they would offer me an £11 refund (7.8%), I said that wasn't really on and I'd like a refund of at least £15 per camera. A bit of back and forth over a few days and we settled on £14 per camera.
That's when I tried setting one up and discovered the D1200 isn't in fact compatible with the hub...
Also...
Why can't I change the Hubs SSID, reolink themselves say changing SSID's is a good idea and I don't exactly want my CCTV recordings broadcasting their exact location.
[Edit: Found a way to edit the SSID, thanks to the below commentors. Not entirely sure how I missed that one.]
