Question about fan perception of early FSG (then NESV) pre 2004 World Series

So I don’t know much about Baseball, but I watched The Comeback - 2004 Boston Red Sox on Netflix.

I’m curious about what fans at the time thought of FSG in 2002.2003 and 2004 before the ALCS comeback and World Series win.

Did fans at the time know FSG were working more competently towards a World Series compared to previous ownership?

Any insight would be Appreciated.

Thanks.

Coaching Staff

My guesses for the coaching staff next year as last years group needs more experience

Bench Coach - Manny Acta
Third Base Coach - Jose David Flores
First Base Coach - Chad Epperson
Hitting Coach - Kevin Long
Assistant Hitting Coach - Nelson Paulino
Pitching Coach - Andrew Bailey
Bullpen Coach - Chris Holt

Acta and Long add some experience, while Epperson gets moved to a less important spot.

Front row seats

Since I was a kid back in the '70s, I have always wanted to watch a Sawx game from the front row at Fenway. Dugout box 32, 33, or 34 is what I would squeal like a stuck pig to get. Not second row. Front row. Opponent doesn't matter. Doesn't even matter if we're in last place. So many people I know want the monster seats. But I want right next to the field. I know these are season tickets and held by some yuge corporation or billionaire or some such, but I still hold out hope that I can someday see a game from the front row between home and first. Just a single game from that glorious vantage point. How I wish there was a way that average Joes like us who live and die with these guys and actually watch the games with our phones put away can see a game from these seats without paying four figures per ticket. Now for the dumb question. Does anyone know how to make my dream come true of seeing a game from the front row without taking a second mortgage? Yeah.....that's what I thought. 😭

40-man Roster Crunch in November

There were 47 players on the 40-man roster list at the end of the season.

Losing Gray, Sandoval, and Kiner-Falefa to free agency brings that number down to 44.

Red Sox will have to get down to 40 once the 60-day IL expires in November.

Which 4 players will not make the cut?

edit: For context, if I'm not mistaken, the following players don't have minor league options left:

Houck, Oviedo, Guerrero, Kelly, Moran, Cheng, Eaton, Jones, Mead, White.

edit 2: I'm assuming Gray will take the $10M buyout, which means even if he eventually re-signs in free agency, he won't be taking up a roster spot when the Red Sox have to pare down to 40 in November, so there will still be 4 players that need to be cut.

Brewers fans in Boston?

I’m a diehard Brewers fan living in Cambridge MA, but (perhaps predictably) none of my friends here share my love for this team. Anyone know if there’s a Brewers fan community in the Boston area, or a bar where Brewers fans get together to watch games?

I probably won’t be able to watch the first two World Series games because of work, but I’d love to meet up with some fellow fans for the remaining games!

Season ticket open house events?

Bought tix to a game through the box office twice this year, I talked to the sales person once too because I was expecting a call from another unknown number and answered and the guy was nice

But I've been getting emails for season ticket events and they kinda seem like a sweet deal, not the tickets per se, but the events eg:

didn't want you to miss out on a fun day here at the park, where you would get to enjoy one of our premium club spaces, food and beverages, and take pictures in the Visitor's Dugout and with the World Series Trophies.

Has anyone been to these, maybe 5% chance I'd buy a 20 game pack but it seems like a fun activity I'm curious if others have been. I got a 4 yo he'd probably think it's neat

And yes in this entire post I've been brutally self aware of Mac and Dennis buy a timeshare episode so might as well title this one eaglessoar buys full season ticket package

Might’ve accidentally created a Sox fan

So I ended up having my Niece and Nephew stay over at my house last night. When I started to go to bed I tried putting on the Rays, Guardians game. Couldn’t get my HBO to work so I settled with the MLB channel, which was playing past full MLB postseason games.

They had on game 4 of the 04’ ALCS. I ended up falling asleep sometime after the 6th inning.

Fast forward to 2 am. I wake up to the crowd pop from Papi hitting the homer in the 12th, and at the foot of my bed is my 7 year old nephew completely glued to the TV.

Now it’s the next morning and I’m answering a barrage of questions about the Red Sox, David Ortiz and whatever else his brain can remember from the game.

He’s currently watching in awe on the couch watching David Ortiz highlights on YouTube. I grew up a Braves fan and have a very casual level knowledge of the Sox; is there any lore out there I need to know to satisfy little man for now??😂

I’m glad he was able to find work as a manager despite clear photographic evidence of his violent double murder of Mystique and Aura.

I couldn’t get a good look at his face but it was a young man in a late model Porsche Cayenne (Turbo, I think), Mass Red Sox plates that just said “68”. I don’t know what Red Sox players are doing now so I don’t know of this makes sense.

Pedro Martinez is the best. Love watching him on TBS. Other guys are definitely listening to his expertise.

BTW. When Pedro gestures, you can see that big finger hand that threw devastating pitching.

Question: Is Rosenthal a corporate shill?

IMAGE Lineup Projections

I found this interesting for the sake of discussion - there's a couple projections I'd disagree with (*note this already includes Bauers as an external addition & Arias), but I think the majority of these projections are fair and are a decent template for thinking about what the the lineup can look like with one addition
