🎶 Anyone up for some live music and making new friends? 😊
I’ve just found out that Dizzee Rascal and UB40 are playing at Palmer’s Park on 5 and 4 June, respectively. I know it’s still a little way off, but I’d love to find some like-minded people who enjoy good music and, like me, wouldn’t want to miss Dizzee Rascal! 🎤
If you’re in your 40s or 50s and fancy meeting new people, having a laugh, and maybe going along together, feel free to say hello. It would be lovely to make some new friends along the way tha enjoy live music & festivals! 😊🎶 https://www.fabfestivals.com/listing/the-park-series/
Yess I'm hosting a charity football tournament for Launchpad Reading on 4th December.
If you are unaware, Launchpad Reading support people in and around town who are homeless or at risk of losing their home. This is the perfect time for Reading to come together for a good cause as every donation goes towards helping people in need.
Spaces to play are unfortunately gone but I would much appreciate all types of support whether it's providing prizes or coming down to watch or even just sharing this with anyone who might want to get involved!
I recently moved to Sulhamstead-Padworth area, my nearest grocery shop is Sainsbury Calcot, however they have very poor choice for Lamb meat or none at all, so looking for Butcher recommendation especially for Lamb options, don't mind travelling!
Any memories from the 90s buying video games? i'm sure we all have memories being down lower early Blockbuster but i'm more interested in hearing the more independent stores.
I remember one shop during the late 90s down Tilehurst down School Rd i believe?. Was owned by a chinese fella, lovely guy. I remember going to buy Bubsy 3D with my nan and he straight up told us that we should probably buy something else and that it's a terrible game. I think the shop is now Chapels Dry Cleaning.
Would love to hear your stories and find out old shops i completely forgotten from my memory.
Seriously. I can understand roadworks here or there from time to time but in the last few weeks it’s gotten ridiculous. On my school run I may encounter up to 6 temporary traffic lights, which take quite a long time to cycle. Is it all because of Thames Water?
Morning all, the remarkable story of a 400-year-old pub that has remained shut for decades (yet still holds an active licence) has taken some more unusual twists.
I am walking to Pangbourne at 11am firm the reading station if anyone wishes to join me you are more than welcome to just arrive at the station before 11am
Awful accident and goes without saying that I’m thinking of family and friends.
As someone who uses this road daily, it terrifies me. It is getting worse and worse over the years with the way people drive on it. Many drivers don’t care/know that most of it has now been reduced to 40mph, and I drive most of the way with someone so far up my arse that I can’t even see their bonnet. It’s like they leave Caversham and change person.
There are a couple of bends which are also prone to silt covering from the side of the road. I nearly went flying last year on one of them, it was then gritted fairly substantially so council must be aware.
And then (no disrespect to the above person who died or finger pointing) the motorbikes who rev/weave/bomb it down there. Spend an evening around Benson and Wallingford and all you can hear is bikes screaming up and down.
Added to that you have the pot holes which people continually drift into the middle to try and avoid. They keep resurfacing to be fair, but each winter they come back worse than ever.
And yet I don’t see anything being done..although saying that, I don’t know what? A couple of police cars or mobile speed camera vans every now and again on one of the verges would surely help a little?
Went into Coffee Under Pressure for a quick lunchtime stop with my girlfriend. Sat down on a table by ourselves in a mainly empty café and brought out a card game called Tacta to play. Started shuffling cards when we got told rather swiftly we weren't allowed to play games inside by the otherwise kind and welcoming barista. We obviously listened with no complaints and continued to finish our drinks for 10 more minutes but have just never seen anything like it before.
I’ve lost my keys, 15/10/26, in caversham between emmergreen and hamadean hill!! it’s two keys with a white unlabeled tag, and an evil eye chain keychain (looks like 🧿) please let me know if you see it!! I’ve looked around dn can’t find it. Might’ve lost it in bugs bottom aswell. Please help 🙏
Hi everyone! We’ve got lots of plans in the pipeline for Wokingham Borough and we’re asking your views on five proposals covering:
caring for adults who need it
new and safer speed limits
helping people get more active
creating community-led library services
how the borough should develop and grow over the next 15 years
Some of these are draft strategies, meaning your feedback will help develop the final approach.
Supporting people’s dignity and independence
Firstly, we’re developing a new Adult Social Care Strategy and want your views to ensure it works for everyone.
Adults may need social care because of age, illness, disability or other needs. We currently support about 2,000 people with things like home help, equipment or adaptations, carers’ support, supported housing or residential care to help everyone live the life they choose.
The strategy will set our priorities for the next five years. It’s been shaped by more than 1,300 survey responses and over 400 conversations, workshops and meetings with residents, carers, staff, providers, community organisations and partners.
We’re proposing to reduce speed limits in five areas, using a mix of 20mph and 30mph limits depending on the location.
Lower speeds can reduce serious accidents and make it safer and easier for people to get about on foot and by bike. They can also reduce congestion, noise and emissions.
The proposals cover Wokingham town centre and Norreys Avenue, Twyford, Finchampstead village, the Silverdale Road area in Earley and Hare Hatch.
This is the first phase of our Safer Streets programme and was guided by more than 1,900 suggestions from residents.
We’re developing a new libraries strategy to create community-led services that bring people together, support learning and make the most of local partnerships.
As well as offering books, libraries are essential hubs where everyone can learn, meet others, get digital support and enjoy activities.
More than 1,300 residents responded to our previous survey, telling us how they use libraries and their views on the service, which helped shape the draft strategy.
Almost 90 per cent were library users, so we’d also love to hear from people who don't currently use libraries to ensure this works for everyone.
What helps you stay active and what gets in the way? Earlier this year, almost 750 residents told us about getting and staying physically active.
This helped us develop a draft 10-year Physical Activity Strategy. If agreed, it will aim to give everyone in the borough more opportunities to be active.
Now we want to know whether this works for you. Have we chosen the right priorities? Is anything missing?
Finally, we’re starting work on our new Local Plan 2045, which will guide how Wokingham Borough grows and develops over the next two decades.
It will look at where new homes, jobs and services should go, what infrastructure is needed and where development should not take place so important natural and historic features can be protected.
At this early stage, we’re asking which issues, opportunities and priorities the plan should address. We aren’t consulting on specific policies, sites or strategies, as that will come later.
I just moved to Reading from Coventry. In Coventry, my closest GP was a 30min walk. Now, I suffer from too much choice. I live in the station area, and I have about 9 surgeries to pick from.
I am an overall healthy person. But before moving, I was in the middle of tests regarding joint pain. And I would also like to speak to someone about my period. Sorry for the TMI; it's just that if someone here has had similar issues and had a good experience with a GP, I would like to know about it.
As title says. Reading was always our first choice, but now QE is a real option, we’re having second thoughts. QE seems to offer an incredible academic environment and opportunities, but it’s also more intense. Reading seems to have a nice balance of academics, sport, music, trips and just letting boys be boys.
Our son works hard but needs a bit of balance. Moving to Barnet would also mean some financial and lifestyle compromises.
Are we mad not to go for QE if he gets the opportunity? Or is the difference not as big as we’re imagining? Would love to hear from parents or former pupils of either school!
I am still looking for people who are happy to participate in some PhD research. This involved 3 testing visits in the morning (8/8:45am) and taking a probiotic or placebo for 16 weeks. If you experience any symptoms of low mood, please follow the link below to complete a quick screening. You will be compensated for your time!
Hello again everyone - here's a story about how a handful of people refused to let Reading FC Women die. Now, a new generation of players are living their dreams back at the SCL Stadium.
