Raku Guide updated: new chapters, PDF and EPUB editions, and a call for translators
Hi all,
I've just published a round of updates to the Raku Guide (https://raku.guide), the introduction to Raku for newcomers.
What's new in the English guide
- Two new chapters: Strings and Grammars.
- The Concurrency and Asynchrony section is finally written (promises, supplies, react/whenever). It used to be a single link.
- Expanded chapters: logical operators, while/until/next/last and the topic variable, named and slurpy parameters,
whereconstraints, default and required attributes, reading exception messages, and regex anchors, alternation, captures and substitution. - Installation instructions rewritten around Rakubrew and the binary releases.
- A number of corrections. Every example in the guide was run against Rakudo 2026.09.
New formats
The guide is now available as PDF and EPUB as well, in all 14 languages. Download links are in the README: https://github.com/hankache/rakuguide
Translators wanted
This is where I need help. The guide exists in 13 languages besides English, and after this update all of them are behind the English version. Some more than others:
- Every translation is missing the new chapters and sections listed above.
- German, Italian and Bulgarian still call the language Perl 6 in many places.
- Ukrainian covers 6 chapters out of 17.
If you speak Bulgarian, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish or Ukrainian, even a small contribution helps: one section, a rename pass, or a review of what's there. New languages are very welcome too.
How to contribute:
- The source is one AsciiDoc file per language, e.g.
fr.rakuguide.adoc. Always translate from the English file,rakuguide.adoc. - Send a pull request to https://github.com/hankache/rakuguide, with the commit title prefixed by the language, e.g.
[FR].
A big thank you to everyone who has translated the guide so far. Feedback and corrections on the English version are welcome as always.
