It’s been a while, but I’m finally back to creating new work and I finally got around to proofing my latest this evening..
I decided that I would embrace the chaos of extended inks for this one, and designed the plates with transparencies in mind, so there are some fun things happening in there regarding layer interactions.
The colours are nowhere near where I’d like them, I was shooting for those lovely blue-green colours you get with clear thick vintage glass, but ended up with neon turquoise!
I built the four individual layers in procreate and modelled the layer interactions by studying an old codd bottle I have lying around. It’s not as realistic as I was aiming for, but I’m actually super happy with it, if I remove any more material from the plates, it won’t be much.
Anyway, it feels good to be back 😊

Does anyone know if the shina plywood from McClains is the same as the shina from Jackson's? The Jackson's seems to be a lot less expensive. (I'm assuming it's the 1/4 inch) Has anyone tried both?

I saw something forever ago talking about how the lifecycle of a dandelion is kind of like the sun, the moon, and the stars, and I thought it was beautiful so I made a little triptych about it!

Hello all,
I am working on printing some notebooks using the stamps I made last year on the pink rubbery easy carve stuff, but this one random line is not showing up no matter what I do!! It doesnt look like the stamp itself is damaged at all, but the ink gets all splotchy and weird around this spot. is there anything I can do to fix it? it will get another layer on top so it won't be super obvious but it is really annoying. I am using the big archival ink pads at the moment for convenience, but when I have rolled out ink I remember it doing the same thing. let me know if there's a solution or something I am missing here!

Hello! My fiancee and I are looking to hand print our wedding invites, while still including a picture of us on the other side. I’m pretty new to this and have just been using printmaking paper from my local art store. Does anyone have experience with a paper that can both photo printed on and also hold ink? Is this idea just doomed from the start?? Any advice is appreciated!

Blick has dramatically raised the price toned Rives BFK 280gsm. Tan and black are still at the old price (for now), but gray and cream have more than doubled. What are the best substitutes for BFK? Specifically, I would appreciate suggestions for alternative toned papers for intaglio that are better than Stonehenge but more affordable than BFK.

So I recently started taking a printmaking class for complete beginners. I’m hooked. So you’ll likely hear from me a lot now. We’re focusing on screen printing. But just for educational purposes, they taught us about Linocuts. I never thought I’d be interested. Well I was wrong. I got the Speedball beginner’s kit. I just wanted to see if I like it. I don’t like it, I love it. I already broke one the tips from the kit and am out of blocks to carve. My question is where do you get your “quality” equipment? There is no what this speedball cutter is a quality option? I’d also love to know where you get your wooden blocks? I much prefer the block that came in the Soeedball kit as opposed to the rubber one. And ink. Is there an ink brand that is widely considered a favorite?
Help keep this obsession alive!!! Thank yall.

I’m going to be attempting my first reduction print of my friend’s cat. She wants a burnt orange background, he’s black and white with golden brown eyes.
So i understand I need to first carve everything that will stay white and then print the eyes, then carve them away and print background colour. I then need to carve away the background leaving just the outline of the cat and any black parts and then print the black layer - does that sound right?
Thanks!

Hello! I've recently gotten very into intaglio printmaking, especially etching, though I'm also looking to experiment more with soft ground. I was curious about printing on fabric and wanted to ask if you had any suggestions.
I have a Sizzix Big Shot Plus, which I'm really enjoying experimenting with as part of my research on how much exactly is possible to do from home, but at uni I also have access to real presses, though my access is limited and must be used to work on exam projects which I'm not sure this will become. For this reason I'd love to get this working on my Sizzix if possible, and if it works on that then I know it'll definitely work on a press.
What kind of fabric works best for this? Are you supposed to soak it the way you'd soak paper before printing? Have any artists written books or articles on this that I can read about?
Thanks in advance!

This is an 8x10 linocut I carved this weekend while sitting at a fall festival. I chose that instead of donning my vegetables.

Hi folks! Yesterday I tried print making for the first time and it was so fun. I had the best time and was so impressed with results. I did it on tetrapak and I think it’s intaglio??
One of my designs I kept having trouble over the ‘face’ of the hooded figure. It kept losing detail, and it feels unreadable but I couldn’t get it to be clearer before the tetrapak started disintegrating.
I feel like the folds of fabric on the left hand side of the hood are just messy and lost. The ‘face’ is meant to be a surveillance camera in its glass dome thing.
Should I have left more space in the detail so it reads better? Am I being too picky and it actually reads ok?
I’ve cropped the image so that y’all can see the head better, and fourth image is my ballpoint sketch to show the vision. Size of full print is about A5
Apologies for photo quality, my phone camera is damaged.

Hi, I’d like to make mono screen prints by painting directly on the screen, but I want a reference image to paint over. Is there a way to do that without making a mess? I figure i can put an image under the screen and press down but figure that would make the ink bleed through.
Anyone have advice?

Hello! I used to buy from a store a 100pack deckled Edge A4 lokta paper, usually between 90-150gsm. Now i need to buy more and they haven't answered me for a whole month so I'm kind of desperate to find natural Lokta that is not overpriced as on Etsy. If anyone has any info or a Lokta seller in Europe, close to Italy/Slovenja let me know! Ive seen normal prices on Etsy but inflated shipping, same on Amazon.
Thank you all!

I’ve printed a couple of prints with speedball black ink onto white paper and thought it would actually look better with some color. The ink says it water soluble but if I wait long enough for it to dry and cure should it be fine? Or should I have done the background first?
