Many print and play games are designed with a small physical footprint, or require only a few components. e.g. a deck of cards might take a long time to craft, but a deck of cards is still a physically simple game by the end.
What popular print and play games end up approaching a traditional board game in terms of footprint or component complexity?
If possible, I'd prefer games that are designed exclusively for print and play. I know there are lots of games that are published as traditional board games and also offer a print and play version.

Hi all! I've been building a card editor for my own projects and thought it might help people here. It runs in the browser, on a desktop or a phone: https://cardamon.lt
Designing - You lay out a card once, as text and image boxes placed in millimetres, and every card in the set shares that layout - Bleed and safe area are shown on every card, so art reaches the edge and text stays clear of the cut - About 140 fonts chosen for card games, or upload your own, with small icons inline in the text - Two-sided cards, and templates for card games, playing cards, flashcards, trading cards and tokens/tiles
Filling in the deck - Export the cards to CSV, edit them in any spreadsheet and import them back, or link a Google Sheet and the cards follow it - Give a card a count, and that many copies go into the print
Printing - At home: a PDF sized to your paper, with your own margins, gaps and cut marks - At a print shop: a PNG of every card with bleed, at 300 DPI or whatever the shop asks for (The Game Crafter, MakePlayingCards, Ludotipia and similar) - Playing online (beta): a deck for Tabletop Simulator, or 10×7 card sheets for Screentop.gg and Tabletop Playground
What's free and what isn't
The editor and every export are free: 100 MB for artwork and fonts, 7 days of version history, and one deck hosted for TTS. No ads and no tracking, and you sign in with an email link, so there's no password. Paid plans (from €5/month) add storage, longer history and more hosted decks.
The AI features are not free. You can describe a game and have Claude make the cards, draw the art in a chosen style, or playtest the balance with bots. That uses AI credits from a paid plan or a pack (from €5). It's entirely optional, and you can do everything above without it.
I'd love feedback, especially on what's missing from your print-and-play workflow. Happy to answer questions!

I'm thinking of opening a printable store with a whimsical, theatrical, medieval, Alice in Wonderland kind of vibe. The idea is to build a surreal world with its own characters and lore, with the goal of making play and creativity more accessible.
I'm open to product suggestions! So far, I'm thinking of paper puppets, paper theatres, and things of that nature. Maybe introducing a detailed paper-folding project with each new release.
I'd also love to hear everyone's thoughts and feelings about the concept, especially who you think would be interested in a world like this. Would this be something you'd enjoy exploring?

Lost Fighters Arena is my free 1v1 dice fighting game. You roll five dice like Yahtzee, and your combos are your strikes. Sets hit up close, straights charge in from a distance. Hits knock your opponent across a hex arena: into the electrified ropes, into the lava, or out of the ring.
2 players · 15 min · 2 sheets to print · 5 regular dice + a few small cubes
After endless hours I’m proud to present the V3 ! (thanks to everyone who tested V1 and told me what was wrong). V3 is big step up ! (I hope)
It's still a prototype, and I mostly play alone. So I need honest feedback: what's broken, what's fun, what's missing. There's a 3-minute form inside the PDF.

About me : Graphic designer from Paris, 20+ years in the job.
I got into board games not so long ago. Then I started making them for fun. What a blast !
My design exercise: strong storytelling, mechanics that come from the story, and games that are easy to print and quick to play, with as little gear as possible.
AI use: the character art is made with the help of AI. The hundreds of hours it took to get to V3 (graphic design, rules, balancing, playtesting, stories) are human (mine). It's a free prototype, made by one guy, using the tools available. If it ever takes off, an illustrator gets hired.

I finally finished the proper release version of Bombers High! Thank you all so much for the feedback you had, it was incredibly valuable to help refine the game. I've still been playtesting and refining a few elements. The game is still butally lethal, but has a few mechanics to help you make it at least two missions in...
The game is also still being developed and expanded. I have plans to bring in more opponents, more technical missions, new bombers, and a mechanic for dive bombing. So stay tuned!

Hey all!
I’ve just finished putting together the Low-Ink P'n'P version for my card game, DRA&B - Devils, Robots, Aliens & Beasts, and wanted to share it with you!
The full game has a super vibrant, ink-heavy aesthetic, so I made sure to design a printer-friendly version with crisp cut lines so you won't drain your ink cartridges :)
--------------------
Quick Game Overview:
Players/Time: 3–5 players | 15–20 mins
Core Mechanics: semi-blind drafting (offering cards face-up/face-down to bluff opponents) and grid placement where positioning affects your score.
--------------------
How to grab the files:
I've set up a download page on my site. Just pop your email in the box, and the system will instantly send the PDF file straight to your inbox:
👉 DRA&B
(This will also sign you up for occasional updates, like the upcoming Kickstarter, but you're free to unsubscribe anytime after downloading!)
I’d love to get your thoughts on the card layout, alignments, and overall gameplay. Let me know if you get a chance to play it!

Gamers abound, my question for you: What is your limit? When someone offers you an opportunity to download their game so that you can print and play to test, what do you consider as part of the process?
How many pages is too much? Where is the line crossed from "Yeah, I can do that" to "You want me to plant how many trees?"?
What would you consider to be too complex for cutting and assembling? Token example: circles okay? Squares or hexes preferred?
Sometimes, random objects can be tokens. Often gamers have tokens on hand from other games. But not always.
I have a couple of games in mind to share, but need to know if the time investment is worth it. They are not small scale. But possible.
Appreciate your input.

Deck Print: a free browser tool to make a card deck and print it at home.
Write your cards or paste them from a spreadsheet, add your own pictures, pick the card size (poker, bridge, tarot, mini...) and export a double-sided PDF with crop marks. It has an alignment test page for duplex printing. No account, nothing is uploaded: your deck stays on your device.
The free version exports up to 2 sheets per PDF; Pro (one-time purchase, only in the Windows app) removes the limit.

Would love feedback from people who actually print cards: what would you want it to do that it doesn't?

We travel a lot and love roll/flip & write games & someone over on [r/boardgames](r/boardgames) suggested this thread and my mind is blown and also now overwhelmed. Help! Where should we start!?
30ish min games are our sweet spot.
Our current favorites:
Welcome to the moon
Troyes Dice
Castles of burgundy:dice game
The Hobbit:there and back again
Fleet:the dice game *I like this game but I have the short term memory of a goldfish so I’m constantly forgetting if I “did all the things”
(Ideally looking for new/other mechanics and not just more of these same games as we still play these often)
Thanks in advance!!!!

Not sure how far I'll go with this. Already did all of the hero ability cards and this is 3 of the 4 heroes done. Next I move on to the boss cards. Then maybe some minions.

Hello again, dear group members.
First of all, thank you all so much for enabling me to make changes/updates that might have taken weeks, all in just one day 😊
I think I've reached the final version of the card now, but I still wanted to present you with a few different formats and get your valuable feedback.
Personally, my favorite is the first image.

Edit: Wow, thank you everybody. I have enough playtesters now, and I will send the links today. If you did not get in, I will post here when the game is released for Halloween.
Last week I asked how to find playtesters, and you gave me a lot of good ideas. A couple of people are already lined up for testing. Thank you for that. So here it is.
Yes, Master is a small 2-page solo roll and write. You dig a trail through a cemetery over 5 nights and snatch bodies for your master. You need two dice, a pen and about 15 to 20 minutes.
I am looking for a few more people to play it once or twice and answer 5 short questions. If you want to try, just comment and I will send you the link. The plan is to release it for free on Halloween.

Hi guys,
somehow people keep finding the print & play version of PAUSO and if anyone here has downloaded the game since let me know I'd love to hear your experience!
A few things have changed: the app version has gotten loads of feedback and has evolved so much - here are the most notable changes:
The table energy has become a lot more devious:)
I highly suggest looking at the new rules as it is more balanced, holds tension to the end and allows for crazy comebacks and sick combo moves with the new mods.
Would love to see if anyone here has actually tried the game since or is curious to learn more.

Looking for other designers to connect with. Ideas, reviews, eventually maybe trade prototypes for play testing. I'll have a PnP version (minus main art) ready in the near future. Would love to trade PnP versions of your TCG.
My game:
Relicon is a tactical sci-fi card game set in a fractured future where rival factions battle for power among the ruins of humanity's lost civilization. It combines deckbuilding, resource management, and a two-line battlefield combat system.
2 factions developed - 9 more planned, not including smaller factions. Probably 20 or so expansions mapped out already, including a meta game to go along with it.
If you like MTG, WH40K, Star Trek CCG, Battletech, or Starcraft - you'll probably like this game. I'm open to any genre or style TCG game.
Look forward to hearing from you, feel free to message me.

Drop some appreciation for someone you’ve learned from in the PNP community. Whether it’s design tips, printer suggestions, or general appreciation let’s get ready for the weekend by spreading a little love.

It was close but Wren was able to blast her way out of Purgatory. Only 1 HP remaining at the end! Had to share the second picture because I haven't colored Wren's Infernal side yet.

I love Nucleum and this type of euro in general. I'm looking through PnP games and cannot really find anything in the genre of either "networking industrial euros" or 18xx games.
Something with solo and if possible, preferably low-footprint (eg. game board is one A4 sheet) in these genres would be really cool to play after work with a coffee.
Looked through PostMark Games, PostCard Games since they were the best possibility for games like this but they don't have anything like it sadly.
I'm even thinking about maybe designing one myself if I cannot find any.

I have finished the demo and a testing system and published on itch io, RPGTrader, DriveThruRPG, Wargame Vault, and Buy Me a Coffee pages!
It feels so good to have it ready. 5 Cities each with its own fun mission ideas.
The cover was such a pain to decide on. After asking Reddit threads for opinions, I decided to go with a very simple look. And it came out with the vibe I wanted.
Now, this is still a work in progress, but I am at a point I can share it. It will have minor changes and updates as time goes. For instance, I will add the link to the Google My Maps for the whole thing. And I will update the page of the map as more and more cities are added.
I am extremely proud I completed this and did not use AI in the art. Which I believe would have made this go faster. Much faster. But I want this to be something I created on my own. The art could definitely be better, but it is good enough for my look at it and say I am proud of it.
If you are interested in trying it out and want to give me some feedback, you can find it on the platforms listed above. Just look for the Smash List. (Yep I am going to keep the title).
Please note my wife did find some errors which will be corrected in the next update. But if you find some please do not hesitate to let me know.
This is the first time I have done anything like this and I know there are some things I missed.
Next phase is something I am working on right now and fingers crossed hope I can get all of them done before the end of the year.
I am adding more missions to each city already on the campaign. And most importantly I am adding more cities in the campaign to choose from.
I just finished drafting the ideas for the rest of Fort Worth and it came to 8 missions in total. I need to get the playtesting and art done on these. And just so everyone knows I use a mix of Forgotten West, Zombicide, and Tombstone for my testing.
The goal is to add 6 new cities, and about 100 more missions to choose from.
Also I wanted to get the interactive map on Google My Maps done before the end of the month.
For the future releases, I am planning on grouping them by states. So you get the state book and use that essentially as an add-on.
I hope you all enjoy using the system as much as I do!
Thank you again!!
P.S. I didn't add links as I am not sure it is allowed. If you can't find it feel free to DM and I will send it your way. It is a pdf.
