To elaborate, say you experienced a head trauma. You remember only a momentarily lapse in consciousness, then waking up, recovering from a concussion, and then going on with your life for 10 years. Then, you wake up one day, in a hospital bed, to find out those 10 years were all in your mind, as you had actually been in a coma for a month from that head trauma. You are able to remember things from the time in the coma as if it had actually happened, recalling them the same way you would everything else.

My dad rarely talks about himself, his past, family, etc. I don’t even know a single cousin of mine from his side. And I barely know the names of his siblings. Nor his mom. Makes me sad sometimes.
