Half a mooch!

u/cityexile Great Britain 9h ago

To translate for fellow Brits…about one third of a lettuce.

851

u/confused_ape 9h ago

One fifth.

Truss lasted 49 days, Scaramucci 10 days and now Zacharia 5 days.

There seems to be some debate about whether S was 10 or 11 days.

So I propose we just call it 50, 10 & 5 for simplicity.

u/CarlosFer2201 Foreign 8h ago

A metric mooch is 10 days. The imperial one is 11.

I'm seeing that Truss stepped down on her 50th day, September 6th - October 25th. So at least if you count both the start and end dates, a Zacharia is 5 days, a Mooch is 11 days, and a Truss is 50 days or exactly one dekazacharia

378

u/Cmdr_Shiara 9h ago

This is the UK and the USA, having nonsensical unit sizes is part of our DNA. Leave metric political timelines to the french.

257

u/RazarTuk Illinois 9h ago

Actually... they're fairly normal. If you count their first and last days, a Truss is 50 days, a Mooch is 11 days, and a Zacharia is 5 days or exactly one decitruss. Which honestly feels just inconvenient enough to be hilarious

“If they let me hate others, yes!” - MAGA

1.4k

u/Hollownerox 10h ago

The funniest part is that nobody was really stopping them from hating others before this. They just felt like they couldn't share their hate openly because people would, rightfully, shame them for it. But there was nothing actually stopping them from doing so prior.

So these weirdos let obvious crooks run the nation's soft power and nigh unchallenged global leadership position into the ground, because of imagined victimhood.

I think a good number of them thought Hate Crimes were going to be legalized. It’s crazy how many local idiots have been arrested for threatening or straight up assaulting people (all while yelling xenophobic MAGA shit) with that “but why are you arresting ME” look on their faces.

"If you can convince the lowest white man that he is better than the best colored man, he won't notice you are picking his pocket. Hell, give him someone to look down on, and he'll empty his wallet for you!" - LBJ

People say Trump is a poor man's idea of a rich man, and a weak man's idea of a strong man. This is exactly correct. His supporters are either billionaires, or poor and weak. He tells them that they are "better" than the Brown Horde(tm) that is coming to rape their dog and eat their daughter, so they love him, and throw their money at him.

It’s the result of half a century of Republican propaganda:

“The most dreaded words in the English language: ‘we’re from the government, and we’re here to help!”

“Government doesn’t fix problems, government IS the problem!”

“I want to shrink government to size it can be effectively drowned in a bathtub.”

“Both sides are the same!”

It’s all bullshit that trained Reagan’s GOP, the Tea Party, then MAGA, not to expect anything from either party. The Dems are reviled for wasting money on healthcare and education, and the GOP doesn’t need to deliver anything, telling their voters that they are in on the joke, and cutting costs is in their best interests.

Cutting benefits, that is, while pushing tax cuts for the rich, more military spending, corporate bailouts. and golden ballrooms.

And red states buy it every fucking time. Guess there is a benefit to cutting education after all. /s

It's simultaneously comical and pathetic. Trump's so obsessed with his IvankaBots that no one around him thought that her ridiculous legal "career" would be brought up. And no one seemed to be aware of whether she could handle public speaking since her first press briefing made it seem like a she was a child who was just learning to read.

I did grand jury. There was a guy in training / assisting the prosecutor that would do like 1/10 cases. I'm really not sure that guy could read, and he was totally unprepared. We'd fly through cases with the prosecutor, then he'd step out and let this guy do a couple and the whole process came to a complete standstill.

For those British among us, 1 Scaramucci is 1/5 of a Truss. Or rather 5 Scaramuccis make 1 Truss. Making a Zacharia approximately .068 of a Truss. If my math is correct. Imperial to Metric conversion is always my weak spot.

True, lying was literally her job...

110

u/Sturmgeshootz 9h ago

Scaramucci himself was talking about that on his podcast the other day, how Leavitt was really good at standing up there and confidently and enthusiastically telling lie after lie after lie, and Zacharia stumbled over the need to be able to do that almost immediately and that she likely wouldn't last very long. Even he is probably surprised that she didn't even last half a Mooch though.

106

u/IThinkImDumb New Mexico 9h ago

He fired her for not being a Karoline Leavitt. Like her or hate her (I do NOT like her), she was an incredible press secretary...for THIS administration. Female version of Trump, with the lies, insults, aggressive tone, etc. Her press conferences were not to inform the public, it was to praise Trump while insulting those who didn't like him.

I work in media/public relations and know a bit about this. Katie reads off of a paper, even when she speaks about things that should come "straight from the heart." Leavitt barely looked at a paper, and I'm willing to bet it wasn't a script, but bulleted talking points. Katie reading word for word from the paper leads to her awkward phrase breaks. A phrase or clause should never be broken up. If she can't finish the sentence on her own after just looking at the beginning for a brief moment, then she doesn't know the material. When she uses hand gestures, she is looking down. Using a hand gesture should coincide with directly looking at the audience.

It's weird because when she was answering questions, she totally had the ability to look up and answer the questions without reading her papers.

One more thing, when asked a question that you don't know the answer to, it's totally legit to say that you will get back to that person. However, the few times Karoline Leavitt was asked a question she didn't know the answer to, she did one of two things:

-insult the reporter for asking a stupid question

-begin and end her answer with a Trump message. For instance, I don't remember any specific questions, but let's say she didn't know details about the Trump phone. Instead of saying, "I'll have to get back to you on that," she would say something like, "We are all excited about faster data speeds, improved range, and cheaper monthly cost that Trump Mobile will bring to every American. I look forward to providing more information for each exciting updates. But I can say this, I've spoken with the developers and I can tell you, Trump Mobile will be the best plan out there on the market. Mr. President selected the best minds for the job, and I wouldn't be up here if I didn't trust him."

I made up the last scenario but it's an example of the BS that Trump wants to push

What’s the conversion between Zacharias and Scaramuccis?

649

u/placeinspace 10h ago

1 Scaramucci = 235 hours, 11 minutes (14,111 minutes). Zacharia lasted approximately 109 hours, 37 minutes (assuming a midnight start on October 12 and ending at 1:37 PM on October 16). That puts her tenure at 0.4661 Mooches, or roughly 46.6% of a Scaramucci.

167

u/TheManWhoShotTheMan 10h ago

If you convert this to the UK Truss. It works out as. 1 Truss = 49 days (1,176 hours / 70,560 minutes). Zacharia lasted approximately 109 hours, 37 minutes (6,577 minutes, assuming a midnight start on 12 October and ending at 13:37 on 16 October). That puts her tenure at 0.0932 Trusses, or roughly 9.3% of a Truss. The lettuce would still be crisp. Metric edition: 1 Truss = 4.23 megaseconds Zacharia = 394.6 kiloseconds (0.395 Ms) Fun fact: 1 Truss ≈ 5.00 Mooches, so the Scaramucci is effectively a Fifth of a Truss. A Scaramucci is a 200 millitruss (mTr) unit. So Zacharia clocks in at 93.2 millitrusses. (Uses the full 49 days in office, 6 Sept–25 Oct 2022. If you go by the resignation announcement on 20 Oct, a Truss is 44 days and Zacharia rises to about 10.4% of a Truss.)

What happens when you do no actual vetting and just put someone who "looks good on tv" as press secretary.

Poor Katie really thought this was her path to a Fox News anchor lol

Jeez. The SNL writers gonna have to go into overtime for this. To be fair, they've had to since 2016.

35

u/cdglasser 10h ago

I'd argue it's the opposite. This stuff all writes itself - there isn't much they have to do, except maybe make it a little more believable.

The administration steers the conversation by taking yet another loss that fundamentally has no real consequences. But hey, we have a new character to laugh at instead of talking about the millions of examples of corruption.

EDIT: It’s not about preventing you from thinking about more than one story at the same time. It’s about diluting your attention as much as possible.

I like it when people defend Trump and say that he fires so many people because they are not doing a good job and forget that Trump is the one who picked them in the first place. They are basically admitting that he is terrible at picking anybody for positions.

Seeing this on her wiki page is hysterical:

In office

October 12, 2026 - October 16, 2026

44

u/newleafkratom 10h ago

..."Speaking as he was leaving the White House for a political rally in Georgia, Trump said Zacharia had been mistreated by the media and praised her as a loyal supporter.

But he made clear he did not believe Zacharia was suited to speak on his behalf as the government’s top spokesperson.

“Maybe it’s not for her,” he conceded...."
