Question Handling high slow returns

I have seen a couple of players who just play by serving and returning shots very high up. It's like every shot is the same way. They have a strong defense and handle every return the same way. Welcome community strategies on tackling such annoying returns and serves because beyond a point, power is of limited use in pickleball.

Players near me Seattle Outdoor courts

Looking to play with others I have a plus 1. Would be fun to just drop in/open play, let me know what parks or courts to go to in Seattle preferably within 1 mile walking distance from downtown!

Players near me Madrid/Las Tablas pickleball

• Upvotes

I’m currently working remotely in Madrid and live in las tablas - I saw that there are pickleball courts at the Las Tablas sports club but it’s impossible to book because it’s not listed on Playtomic.

Does anyone know where people play/is anyone interested in playing over the next month?

Question Anyone play pickleball singles in the Boston area?

27M here, been playing pickleball for about 6 months and recently got into singles. For some reason, I actually enjoy it more than doubles lol.

I’m based on the South Shore but willing to travel around Boston. Most places seem to focus on doubles, so I’m wondering if anyone here plays singles or would be interested in playing regularly.

Feel free to reach out!

Question Picklr Advertising

I just picked up a flier about
Advertising at our local Picklr. It includes a 15 second add on their club tv and 2 annual memberships. Does anyone do this already? I am trying to see if it fits in my advertising budget. Honestly I don’t expect much from doing this(I am a dentist), but I am already paying for 3 memberships so it may make sense.

Discussion Two-handed backhand dink: do you keep the paddle tip up, or let it drop?

I’ve been working on my two-handed backhand dink and trying to keep the paddle tip above my wrist, like I see many high-level players do. The challenge is getting low enough to make that comfortable—my knees aren't as flexible as they used to be.

The technique in this lesson looks closer to what feels natural to me, letting the paddle tip dip and using a different swing path:

https://youtu.be/-QCXqwrkVDw?t=269

For those who dink with a twoey, do you try to keep the paddle tip up, or are you comfortable letting it dip?

Question Practice drives solo

I'm currently at the level where I know what I *should* be doing but I mishit a ton. I hit the net or I launch it out the back. Heck, even my serves are pretty lame (inconsistent)

Really feels like I just need more swings, touches, etc to get accustom to hitting properly. I seem to do a decent hit about 50% of the time. The other time...oysh. I just need the basics honestly.

I struggle when the ball is hammered at me.

This is a super basic question, but how do I practise at home/non-court? I feel like if I hit against a wall, I won't really know if I'd be hitting it out, etc. So I could be hammering it, feeling good, but maybe that would sail out and I'm only teaching myself bad habits.

I saw that there are rebounders, but again, that might not help me do anything.

Discussion Been strapping a camera to my head to film POV wheelchair pickleball. Be honest, is this cool to watch, and should I start filming my games against stand-up players? ♿🥒

Hey r/Pickleball! I play with a wheelchair pickleball squad in the Chicagoland area (the Wheelie Big Dills), and lately I’ve been strapping a camera to my head and mic'ing up for a couple games each session to capture what competitive wheelchair pickleball actually looks like from the chair.

Here’s the playlist of the POV sessions so far:

Wheelchair Pickleball POV: Shorts & Highlights: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOSDVR5kgG70

I’m genuinely curious to get some feedback from the sub:

Is the first-person POV actually interesting to watch? Always wondering if it’s worth looking like a cyborg with a camera strapped to my forehead for two hours a session, or if there are specific angles/mic setups you’d rather see.

Filming against able-bodied players: I play a ton of games against stand-up players too, and I really want to start capturing those matches. Only catch is I haven’t worked up the nerve to ask random open-play strangers yet, mostly because I have a feeling nobody wants to get caught losing to a guy in a wheelchair in 4K on YouTube 😂. Might have a few people revoking their waiver mid-match after getting body-bagged or caught on a two-bounce!

If you’ve ever been curious about how wheelchair pickleball works (the two-bounce rule, chair positioning, how hybrid doubles with one stand-up and one chair player works, or paddle setups), drop any questions or thoughts below! Would love to know what you guys think of the footage.

Question Practice at home

I’m at 6 months post-op from ACL reconstruction with an allograft. I haven’t been cleared for pivoting, twisting, or sudden stops for another few months, but I’m itching to get back on the pickleball court!
In the meantime, I’d love to work on my technique, footwork, and paddle skills at home without putting my knee at risk.
For those who have been through ACLR or practice at home, what drills would you recommend that don't involve sudden movements or twisting?
Also, is the Dink Master worth investing in for at-home practice? I’d love to hear from anyone who has one.
Just trying to stay in the game while patiently waiting for my knee to catch up!

Question Footwork when dinking on the right

Hey all, anyone have a good video/resource for proper footwork when dinking as a right side right handed player? I can crush the left side, but as soon as I'm on the right I literally drop a whole 1.0 rating.

This shows up on 3rd shot drops as well on the right. I really struggle to swing cross body. Feels very awkward and unnatural. Hitting forward and to the right im dialed in (forehand and backhand), oddly my single hand backhand to my left is solid too, its really just my forehand when its crossing my body.

Im trying to figure out if its my footwork and how my body is positioned or if its my swing mechanics etc. Also I ruptured my achillies 2 years ago and havent gotten the explosiveness back yet, so wondering if thats somehow specifically impacting my explosiveness when needing to move right as opposed to left.

Question Help finding a bag

So been searching for bags and honestly its been super complicated iv found. Very few websites have clear pictures of the inside of their bags. Ideally id want a backpack style that comfortably fits 4 paddles that isnt $300+ but if not a nice compact bag that fits 2 paddles with still room inside for snacks and drinks that isnt crazy expensive. Dont need shoe compartment, laptop or any of that jazz. Any recommendations would be great

Question Is this a legit Coral Pro color variant?

I saw this image the other day and couldn't get it out of my head. This is from a retailer in the Philippines and it appears to be a mint green or turquoise Coral Pro. Is anyone aware if such a colorway variant really exists? Or if this is just for outside the US? I've seen variants of other paddles from overseas markets, so I suppose it's possible.

I obviously also considered this paddle as being a counterfeit version, but the seller appears to have credibility. Any info or backstory would be appreciated!

Question Pickle Clips Question

So I have been using Pickle Clips for a couple of months and really like them. I can’t seem to get a normal answer on this on Google, so figured I’d ask. They haven’t been broken, knocked off, etc. however, I was wondering, do I need to replace them over time? Does the effectiveness wear off of them after awhile from consistent use if nothing has “happened” to them?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Players near me Toronto Vaughn pickleball players ?

Title: Anyone in Toronto/Vaughan looking for pickleball partners?
Hey everyone!
I’m relatively new to the Toronto/Vaughan pickleball community and looking to meet more people to play with!
I recently heard about a place called The Backyard Club in Vaughan (1800 Steeles Ave W). Apparently, they have 21 indoor courts, open play sessions, and memberships available.
I’m considering checking it out and potentially signing up for a membership, but wanted to see if anyone here has played there before or would be interested in joining.
Would love to find a regular group to play with, whether it’s casual games after work or on weekends. I’m open to playing with people of all skill levels!
Also curious what everyone thinks about pickleball memberships in general. Do you prefer paying per session or having a monthly membership?
Feel free to comment or DM me if you’re in the area and interested in playing!

Question Burlington MA picklr bankruptcy and new indoor pickleball Club in Billerica

It is strange to hear that the Picklr at Burlington MA just filed a bankruptcy while someone else wants to invest huge amount of money to build a brand new facility next to it.

As a pickleball lover, I am glad to see a new indoor club that is a few minutes away from the Burlington Mall. It is very needed for the cold winter in Boston area. But I am not sure if they will succeed.

Question Hitting hard vs soft?

https://youtube.com/shorts/76mUhj-HvbQ?si=kFxojcxKbcTWK8N0

At 30s mark, it appears both teams are just light just passing the ball over to each other for a few rallies. Why aren't hitting they hitting the ball hard? Shouldn't these be easy shots?

Is the worry that the reflexive returns might be even harder to play against, given they're both close to the net?
