BO at the Film Festival
Second night in a row where I’ve attended a film at the film festival (my favorite part of the year) and was sat near some truly stinky people. Like so stinky it nearly ruined the experience of the film for me because it’s so distracting.
Please don’t show up to a crowded movie theater with BO and/or SICK (with no mask) coughing, sweating, smelling like onions and cough drops - which was the combo I encountered last night. It’s legit anti social and nasty.
Please wear deodorant. With the aluminum. I’m begging you.

Is Philly a possibility for my family?
Good evening,
Im looking at finding a new walkable city for my family (me, wife, 3 y/o daughter) to move to. My wife was recently diagnosed with a medical condition that prevents her from driving a vehicle, so we are trying to find a city that has walkability that we can afford. Currently in upstate NY.
I can transfer to the city but I only make 75k a year(more with OT but it’s never guaranteed) and she’s currently a SAHM due to my work schedule and daycare drop off/pickup times.
Any advice is appreciated, thank you

Some Real Sarah McLachlan Shit in Point Breeze (mostly a vent).
I've lived all around town but nowhere in my 39 years have I encountered such a collective of abhorrent dog ownership. The 2300 block of Dickinson is a caucophony of dog sounds, some of which come from normal and happy dogs.
Some shrieks stand out to all dog owners though as clear signs of an abused dog. I went and looked into the backyard of a poorly sealed, fenced-in concrete slab and was struck by how sad this dog's life is. I can still see its face looking back at me through the fence.
Every available space of concrete that wasn't occupied by clutter or garbage was covered in matted, stepped on dog shit, turds in various states of drying out or freshness. The sounds this dog made were heartbreaking.
Even more heartbreaking was when I woke up on my couch at 2:30am hours later, and as I climbed the steps to my bedroom, I heard it shrieking still. And at 5:30am when I left for work, I confirmed that this dog was outside all night.
Despicable dog ownership. I reported it to ACCT. I also reported to the SPCA too which I never did before. I am admittedly hopeless that either of those will do anything.
We put up with a lot living in this town of assholes and it's charming for the most part. But that dog looks to its owners for food and warmth. I hope and pray for nothing more than the owners of that dog to get Hepatatis A through E.

Stolen Car Poplar Neighborhood
Hi,
My car was stolen from 1209 Green Street in Philadelphia sometime overnight. It is a 2017 black Honda Civic hatchback with Pennsylvania license plate.
The vehicle has a front window brow, tinted side and rear window, and a roof rack. It also has a cracked and exposed left bumper and chipped paint on the right side mirror.
he car was parked at approximately 10:30 PM last night, and I reported it stolen at 5:00 AM this morning.
I noticed there is a Buddhist temple nearby that may have street-facing security cameras, but I haven't had any luck contacting the owner. If anyone has contact information for the temple or knows of any nearby surveillance cameras that may have captured footage, I would greatly appreciate the help.
Thank you!

Need Help: city says retaining wall is a shared responsibility, neighbor refuses to help.
Wondering if people have been through something similar and can offer advice. I live in a Philly row home that has a shared access driveway behind it. The houses behind ours are elevated and there is a retaining wall between our driveway (lower elevation) and their backyards (higher elevation). A large portion of the wall collapsed, spanning about 6 properties on either side of the wall. It fell about 8 months ago. The wall fell down into our shared driveway access. It has significantly narrowed the already narrow driveway, which makes it really hard to turn around and park.
A bunch of the neighbors contacted the city, and the city says this is not their problem. The city believes retaining walls on shared access ways are the responsibility of all the properties that abut the wall.
All the neighbors talked and agreed to pitch in to fix the wall. One person, however, delayed, demanded a survey, and then refused to pay for a survey. They seem to think the city should pay for all of it. This is the person with the biggest property and most square footage of broken wall. This will drive the price up for everyone else by thousands of dollars, and they will enjoy all the benefits of a free wall.
Has anyone been in a situation like this before? How did you handle it? Who can help? Our councilor hasn't done much, the city did more to help than they probably needed to. But it seems like it's their responsibility too.

Date day recs plz
Which would you choose and why for a 70th birthday date day generally toward center city.
Museum of Illusion or Ministry of Awe? (Or do you know of something better?) They enjoyed Otherworld in the northeast.
And if you have ideas, what’s a solid dinner choice that’s not $75 a plate ~prefer no Starr choices. Likes Italian, Asian, and Mediterranean.
Thanks for your help!

philadelphia smart car owners, where do you get repairs?
i have a smart car and the mechanics who are closest to me can never replace the more specific parts. i currently have an issue that seems to be with the computer, so i need to take it somewhere that has access to the software to maybe just update that? i am not a car guy - i am pretty sure the last place i went for service overcharged the shit out of me. i would ideally like to find somewhere in the city, but at this point i just need options that might not be the ones that pop up on google. many thanks

Is the Big Bus tour worth it?
Hi! We’re visiting Philly with a group of six, including two women in their late 60s and early 70s. We’re considering the Big Bus hop-on, hop-off tour so they can see the sights without having to walk too much.
For anyone who’s taken it, is getting on and off the bus fairly easy for older passengers? If we hop off to explore a few stops, how long should we expect to wait for another bus?
Would you say it’s worth the money, or would we be better off visiting the tourist sites ourselves? We won’t have a car, so I’d appreciate any advice!

Feeling Like an Apartment Hunting Newbie
Hello, fellow Philadelphians. Can you help me out with a specific utility bill question?
I have lived in the city for 19 years, but in that time, I've only had two apartments. I am fortunate in the fact that both have included gas and water in the rent. Due to circumstances outside of my control, It is time for me to move on from my current apartment.
As I have only ever paid electric and internet bills, I am having trouble finalizing my rent + utility budget. From my research, I gather the water bill will range from $25-60 a month. I'm having a harder time estimating my gas bill cost. I have seen estimates between $50 - $200 a month.
Things that would factor into my gas usage:
- I take daily showers. Most days the showers are less than 5 minutes.
- I cook one to two times per week, and use the oven or stove for approximately 2 hours.
- I am looking to move into a 2 bedroom apartment with gas cooking and heating provided by electric or water/steam radiators.
If you have similar circumstances, or just want to share, can you tell me what your average gas utility bill is per month to help me plan my budget? TiA!

If your name is Donna
I was in Friend’s hospital with you. I hope you’re doing well. This is about a year to the date where I went in and met you. You wanted to get well for your children and more importantly- your grandkids. I lost the piece of paper you put your contact info on and I’ve been wanting to reach out.
She told me she had kids so maybe her kids see this and can connect me. She went by “Momma Donna” and if anyone who knows someone who goes by “Momma Donna” can chime in I would very much appreciate the chance to reconnect with her. She helped me very much through that time.
Momma Donna I hope you got well (and gained that weight!) and I appreciate who you are and what you offered me in terms of acceptance.
Edit to add for clarity: man I really didn’t want to add race to this because I’m a white dude and it didn’t feel important but I’m realizing that it might be useful. Momma Donna is a Black woman who went into Friends at about 95lb. Also she does wigs. She had a very well done wig when she entered that was blonde on top and black throughout the rest of it.
