What completely harmless thing does your pet treat like a personal betrayal?

Pets can be so dramatic about the most ordinary things.

A dog can happily run through mud but act personally offended when you try to wipe its paws. A cat can squeeze into a cardboard box that's clearly too small but suddenly decide the new bed you bought is unacceptable. Some pets seem to take the existence of a closed door as a genuine insult.

It's funny how they develop such strong opinions about things that seem completely insignificant to us.

I'm not talking about genuine fears or things that cause them distress, just those harmless little inconveniences that somehow become the biggest event of their day.

What's something completely ordinary that your pet reacts to as if you've committed an unforgivable crime?

We were told he's Golden retriever and Pugg Mix.

I think we got him on Cambridge.

DOG I’m a first-time Dog Owner! Looking for recommendations for my puppy~

I got my very first puppy just last week! I’m currently getting ready to prepare for some pet essentials and would love to hear your recommendations.

I’m especially looking for a cozy blanket, but I’m also open to any other must-have that have made life with your furry friends easier or more comfortable.

What are some essentials you absolutely love and would recommend to a first-time dog owner? Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated.

DOG Trying to Bond my Dog With a New Cat

As the title says im trying to bond my pup Jillie to our newly welcomed (accidental) adopted kitty Tootsie. Me and my partner got Jillie in February and everything has been good! She's a border collie mix and has some issues with confidence and reactivity. I always feel sorry for her because she gets scared of a lot of things and has a fearful reaction to new people/dogs and needs me to guide her and give her confidence. Other than that she's a wonderful companion to me and helps me a great deal with my anxiety and depression.

My friend adopted this kitty about 3 months ago and his resident cat and her have been fighting. He planned to rehome her already so I asked to watch her for a little while in our guest room. We'll long story short my partner fell in love with this girl (for good reason) so I suggested we keep her.

Jillie is curious but fearful of Tootsie eventhough she has not had a bad experince with her. She also becomes very tense and fixated on her which is a habit im struggling to break with her because she is a collie. Tootsie couldn't care any less about Jillie and has no fear of her at all. Jillie on the other hand paces and looks for comfort when the kitty is in the room. She hasn't tried to chase her but will get close and gets scared and runs off and shows anxious behavior if the kitty is a round or if im petting her.

I feel that if I can get them to be friends they would be wonderful companions for eachother especially for Jillie to gain some confidence around an unpredictable creature. However I don't want to end up making Jillie more reactive or scare her away from the cat. Suggestions would be helpful in bonding them. I've done some research but I am just not sure what would be helpful in this peculiar situation. For some extra context the kitty has her own room and Jillie has her own space aswell.

What happened to Chewy's customer support

They used to have the best customer service team ever and have been praised for it everywhere, but I just went to shoot them an e-mail about a damaged order and the address is out of service. All I kind find now is a shitty AI chat
why :(

CAT Dutch pet urinalysis

My boy has been having a problem peeing outside the litter box. I think it’s stress from the move, we just moved into my boyfriend’s place. It’s a house but there’s feral cats every where. I got some window film so he can no longer see them but, He’s peeing inside/outside his litter box, isn’t showing any signs of discomfort. I signed up for Dutch and the vet prescribed gabapentin for him. 1-3 times a day. I used it for 4 days and didn’t see a change in the behavior so I stopped the meds. It was just making him sleep through the day. After stopping the meds his vet said I should order a urinalysis test. I want to know if anyone has used their urine test before? Is the price worth it? It’s about 200 after taxes.

RODENTS Hamster - Rehoming and bonding

I have a Syrian hamster and I’m struggling to bond with him because he’s very shy and skittish. He sometimes takes treats from my fingers, but he still seems easily frightened around me. He’s very jumpy at slight movements and sounds.
I’m starting to feel like we might never develop the bond I was hoping for, and I’m wondering whether rehoming him would be the right decision.
Has anyone else been in this situation? Is it okay to rehome a hamster because you’re struggling to bond with them, or should I give it more time? I’d appreciate honest advice, please.

Potential phishing scandal

Both asking to see if anyone else has got it and using this as a notice to warn people if they haven't seen anything in the last week or two about it.

Has anyone else been receiving emails from Petwatch or petco or any of their similar sites/companies? I've had a bunch from these two specifically over the past 2 days and have no new microchipped pets nor any affiliation with either company.

Their emails usually mention something about the Microchip or a subscription to the website itself or something- the latest one that tipped me off it is probably phishing is the email said a pet called Gracie Lee Goatee's microchip was ready and my email needed verified for the account

Senior dog going blind and deaf

I adopted my chihuahua in 2019, and the former owner said she was 3. My vet says she was between 6 and 10, and I chose 8. So, I'm guessing she's about 15 years old. She's never barked or aggressive like you think when you hear chihuahua. She is quite sweet. She's rapidly losing her eyesight and hearing, and I think she's losing her mind too. (Yes, that was to be funny) She is hiding and demands me to hold her when I'm home or sit down all day. Heaven forbid if I go to work for 4 hours. I bought a wrap to carry her to go outside. I garden so I generally look at my garden and having 2 hands is sometimes needed. I reassure her when I'm home. She'll follow me if I'm gone too long. The nose still works! I let her know where I am and pick her up if I can. Can anyone give me advice on how to help her with this transition. I don't want to lose my patience and my mind! 😅 I don't know how to add a picture. Otherwise, there would be one of her.

CRAWLIES What could I fit comfortably in a 10 gallon tank?

My bearded dragon was housed in a 10 gallon, mesh top tank. He has since grown up (and moved to appropriate housing) and I would like to re-purpose his old tank. It has been washed very thoroughly. I would assume inverts are the only thing left on the table, as animal comfortability is my number 1 priority. Any suggestions are welcome!

Dog urine

My dog peed on my granddaughter’s bounce house. I’ve cleaned with dawn soap and odoban but I still smell the urine. How can I clean this? It says not to use a hose or pressure washer

DOG Cheapest safe option for preventatives?

I'm disabled and unable to work, but I try to keep on top of my dog's preventatives. Usually, I just find whichever has the most discounted price between pet stores, Chewy, petco, tractor supply, etc. Lately, they've not been giving those big discounts anymore, and now I'm struggling to find somewhere more affordable. I see those places that are like "$80 for a years supply" and I haven't committed to them but they're so tempting 😥 I wouldn't be able to afford the vet bill if they made my baby sick (and it would destroy me).

I got my dog before I was diagnosed with cancer/became disabled, I was financially stable, etc etc, it's so frustrating being in the situation I am now.

CAT My indoor car has fleas

Linking my post from earlier in another sub for context .

28F, domestic shorthair , vet has already been consulted.

It’s confirmed that my girl has fleas . I did a live chat with a vet from Chewy who recommended a flea bath , as well as topical flea medication . I gave her a bath and combed through her fur with the flea comb . The amount of fleas I combed out in the tub was pretty disgusting to say the least .

I let her dry for a few hours before I put the topical treatment (Advantage II) on her about 15 minutes ago. I’ve been combing through her fur periodically for the past few hours and haven’t seen any fleas . I’m about to call it a night , I look at her and see a flea right on her face and another in her neck . Took the flea comb and they’re both alive .

This is my first time dealing with fleas so I’m really at a loss right now . I thought I was pretty through with my bath. I have a pretty large attic bedroom room so I wasn’t able to fully deep clean the entirety of it today like I hoped and will probably have to call off work tomorrow because I’m either gonna have to stay up all night to finish cleaning , or do it tomorrow when I wake up . It seems like this is worse than I originally thought .

I used the Pet Armor room spray on the couch I have up here , I’m apprehensive to use it on the carpet but I may have to . I washed my bedding and all my pillows . I’ll probably have to do it again tomorrow because my cat insists on sleeping in MY bed . I have all my clothes bagged up because they’ll need to be washed , not to mention an entire closet full of clothes I haven’t worn in ages that’ll now need to be washed because she insists on hanging out in the closet .

Everybody says fleas aren’t that bad , but I’ve been at this all day and I feel like I can’t sleep if I know there are still fleas on her body . I’ve also been getting bit so I’m paranoid .

How the hell are ya’ll handling fleas? Should I give up and go to bed? Am I overreacting? Am I not being patient? This is driving me insane

TLDR: cat has fleas , gave her a bath, applied a topical flea med . Still finding fleas on her hours after the bath.
